Why aren't more woman (and men) worried about

trans women and men self identifying part time or full time as trans women and this:

Why do women have to move over for men who identify as women? Why are women's concerns thrown to the side to ensure the concerns of men who identify as woman are concerned first?

Why aren't more women (and men) worried that woman are being told to step aside to consider men that want to be or identify as women as more important?

Op, if you posted on the popular aibu board it was very quickly moved to the safe space fir these chats. Apparently mn agree with the crazy posters above who don't want to hear about this issue.

Boomboom22 · 22/02/2023 22:00

This post is in feminism wr not aibu?

I think it started out in AIBU and got moved.

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/02/2023 22:07

There are some "monitors" who religiously report any threads on this topic and demand a move to FWR. For some reason, MNHQ acquiesce to these demands every time. Despite there being no list of banned topics for AIBU or Chat, and plenty of other threads that could go into other topics get posted there instead.

DeeCeeCherry · 22/02/2023 22:07

Because of White male privilege in a dress, of course. The elephant in the room that many are choosing not to see or discuss. Denial. In a patriarchal society getting around WMP is a minefield. As you see.

But the answer isn’t to tar all with the same brush and ban everyone from that. As situations develop, red flags will become clearer and it’ll be easier to manage. At the very least, in my opinion, I think criminals should be tried and housed in prison based on how they identified at the time of the crime rather than at the time of the trial."

Ban from what? You mean women's safe spaces? Woman's sports? Woman's refuges and clinics? Women's prisons? What about considering women first for once?

Red flags? So using the Karen White case - pop the trans women in prison and when he rapes and attacks multiple women go 'oh dear we got it wrong move him/ out'. How many women victims are enough? What's the number worth the sacrifice?

Can feminism not also be counted as AIBU or is AIBU only for some topics and not others. I'm sorry, I don't know the rules.

As this is MumsNet it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect every member of this community to be a woman (as in a legitimate XX). As you say, 51% of the population is female so this topic is of major importance and should be discussed in the most high profile area to raise visibility, not hidden out of sight!

ArabellaScott · 22/02/2023 22:08

Ah, your thread's been sent to the naughty corner, OP.

Boomboom22 · 22/02/2023 22:08

It must've been moved super fast as I read the first few comments only and it was already hidden away.

GiveMeStrengthNow · 22/02/2023 22:09

The petition again for anyone that wants to sign it:

Update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic “sex” is biological sex
The Government must exercise its power under s.23 of the Gender Recognition Act to modify the operation of the Equality Act 2010 by specifying the terms sex, male, female, man & woman, in the operation of that law, mean biological sex and not "sex as modified by a Gender Recognition Certificate"

Ah, your thread's been sent to the naughty corner, OP.

Oh dear, the handmaidens are at it again - sent us away to the special thread where we can talk to the converted and not attempt to explain why women need to be kept safe.

Sad that MN don't consider the safety of women important enough for AIBU.

Goodnight all and thanks to those that contributed. The thread was polite and questioning but hey ho not currently fashionable to question why woman's concerns don't matter.

Even MumsNet is controlling the narrative and limiting free speech. This ideology poses a significant threat to women’s freedoms. I thought MumsNet, you know a site for women, would want to shine a light on this topic.

The thread 'monitors' - I wonder what they are so worried about? Why are they worried that women have concerns about trans women in women's safe spaces.

This is a growing concern thread monitors out there. Hopefully more and more will be popped into AIBU or chat since it affects lots of us.

Theseboobsweremadeforwalking · 22/02/2023 22:16

I'm guessing your questioning of why this has been allowed to happen is rhetorical, of course it's the patriarchal society we live in empowering men to do what the hell they want at the detriment of women.
The butcher case was a turning point for me, I can't unsee it now. I recently unsubscribed from an online magazine I'd been getting for years because they published a comic calling jk Rowling a transphobe. I told them this on a public instagram comment and got abuse about it. I had to Google everything she's said because I was thinking...I really don't think she is. Sure enough she's said very clearly she doesn't hate trans people but is concerned, quite rightly, about the safety of women. Comments were turned off sadly before I could reply with several direct quotes!

PopGoesTheProsecco · 22/02/2023 22:18

Oh the thread appears to have been moved.

Maybe Mumsnet should change its name to PeopleWhoBirthNet.

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/02/2023 22:19

To be fair to MN, at the time when the boards were split and this idea of silo-ing threads off to the designated topic in FWR was developed, they were under a lot of pressure to ban all talk on this topic altogether. I disagreed with the board split and the additional censoring rules and the insistence on moving threads. But, we can still discuss in one area at least rather than it all being banned. There were very few places on the Internet where you could.

PopGoesTheProsecco · 22/02/2023 22:24

But by moving it to the feminist board they are literally saying ‘this is a just an issue for feminists’ when it could be anyone’s daughter who is next exposed to a male’s penis in a supposedly female-only changing room. This isn’t a niche issue.

ReunitedThorns · 22/02/2023 22:31

People don't "care" about it, because people aren't allowed to know about it. It is part of the Denton's playbook which is about keeping all negative stories out of the media.

You will see TRAs go to town about all the discrimination they face, yet somehow manage to live under a rock and not be aware of issues like the Scottish rapist, which was the national headline.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 22/02/2023 22:33

I blame broadcast media and social media for a lot of the public ignorance/denial Listen to the BBC and most mainstream political podcasts (The Rest is Politics, Newscast, the News Agents etc) on Sturgeon's fall. They are desperate to avoid the topic. There are other issues in Scotland, but the GRR bill was clearly the tipping point for Sturgeon, yet you would never know it, listening to most broadcasters. They grudgingly mention it in passing, then immediately move on.

In the last 6 months, Penny Mordaunt probably lost the Tory leadership contest because of her support for self-ID and NS resigned over it. If there was any other issue that had caused such major ructions, so quickly, the media would be all over it. But I don't think they can quite believe that an issue that 'only' matters to women (in their eyes), can have so much impact, and they can't fit the topic into their simplistic "progressive vs bigots" world view, in which anything LBGTQ is automatically A Good Thing.

PopGoesTheProsecco · 22/02/2023 22:36

@mumsnet why do you keep moving threads like this (that potentially affect all women) eg penises in female spaces to the feminism board?

I do feel you need to ‘grow a pair’ (pun intended) and perhaps revisit your original mission, aims and values.

Ten years ago I thought @mumsnet was a place where women supported women. Not a place where penises in a safe female space is considered a niche topic.

saturdaymorningbored · 22/02/2023 22:38

@mumsnet what is the justification for this thread to be moved,
The op asked a genuine AIBU

ArabellaScott · 22/02/2023 22:41

I don't think doing the @ thing actually works, does it? I think you have to report a post or email them, or post in Site Stuff.

Helleofabore · 22/02/2023 22:45

The @ thing will not work. Report a post and ask your question .

Sorry OP that your thread got moved without any discussion with you.

you can request it to be moved back though. Good luck!!!

@GiveMeStrengthNow - great post, keep up the fight to protect women. Goodnight.

I tried.

Apparently, I should only 'wang on' about things that I'm interested (e.g. women's rights and concerns) in the appropriate thread since some are sick to death of it all.

I've been booted from posting on AIBU since I asked about what cannot be asked on AIBU.

I'm off to bed.
