I live in Rosie Duffields constituency. Just had local election door knock from labour party

He asked what my main concerns were. I said my main issue was that i stood with Rosie and felt that Labour, as a party, from the top down, did not offer her enough support. And my main concern was womens safe spaces.

Man said, well, this is local elections and not about that, and that issue is more complicated than you think. What are your concerns, locally?

I said the local council is involved in issues to do with womens safe spaces. Like the womens refuges, the womans changing room at the local pool, etc. All spaces where biological men should not have access and that womens safe spaces was my main concern.

There followed a debate. And his stance is that its not that simple, i am being brainwashed by the right wing media, and that Rosie is in fact, (drumroll please...), mainly being supported by American right wing anti abortion groups.

Arrrrrghhhhhh. So that is where my local labour door knockers are at. Saying Rosies main core of support is American right wing anti abortion groups and i am being fooled by them. Silly, foolish, female me.

Rosie just asked a question at PMQs about the importance of people being able to discuss women’s rights when canvassed on the doorstep for the upcoming local elections. She stresses the importance of canvassers treating people with respect so it sounds like she’s aware of the opposite happening. Sunak said he agreed with her and supported her.
.
Great question.

FigRollsAlly · 08/03/2023 13:03

Given that she didn’t come out and say what the real point of the question was, maybe she was tipping off other MPs to be alert to this sort of thing?

LizzieSiddal · 08/03/2023 13:57

@FigRollsAlly yes could be. Or maybe she’s warning those who have been doing this that she knows what they are up to and will be saying further things if they don’t stop telling lies about her.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 08/03/2023 14:08

Was he actually canvassing for the Conservatives? I can’t imagine an approach more likely to make a potential Labour voter tell him to stick it where the sun don’t shine.

Bonkersworknonsense · 08/03/2023 15:31

To be fair, how could he have expected a woman in possession of a little lady brain to comprehend “complicated” issues? 😑 I’m in Canada, life long left wing voter, and I am itching for an election so I can bring this up on the doorstep and with my local candidates.

ijclark · 08/03/2023 15:57

@FigRollsAlly oh good, i look forward to raising her treatment of women who have worked for and trans rights when she knocks on my door :)

Shelefttheweb · 08/03/2023 16:14

Given the type of correspondence Rosie receives I would not be surprised if she passed some of it to the police to reply.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/03/2023 16:18

Good for Rosie. Starmer still missing in action when it comes to standing up for one of his women MPs being bullied - no change there then.

bignosebignose · 09/03/2023 07:49

Rosie’s impeccable dress sense yesterday.

Anyone know what happened to her today? She says she had a migraine and so wasn’t able to speak at the HoC but she had some big speech prepared for IWD and she’s never mentioned about suffering with migraines before. Very odd!

Why should she have mentioned migraines?

She does seem to live rent free in your head ijclark Confused

I'm sure if she wishes to discuss any of her health issues with you she'll be in touch.

MaryBCHR · 09/03/2023 17:16

I would report these traitorous canvassers to the Labour Party and say that there should be no room for them in the Party if they undermine their local MP. They are there to get a Labour member elected, not to undermine her perfectly reasonable stance.

GiantKitten · 09/03/2023 17:18

Something to do with Brianna Ghey being added by Jess Phillips to the list of murdered women?
(I saw something on twitter but didn’t follow it up)

ijclark · 09/03/2023 18:06

Shelefttheweb · 09/03/2023 17:12

I dunno, maybe you could ask her?

SinnerBoy · 09/03/2023 18:09

Oh, I didn't realise that she was obliged to give out detailed health reports, on demand.

I mean, just because you've never mentioned your septic piles, it doesn't mean that we disbelieve that you have them.

JanesLittleGirl · 09/03/2023 22:58

Is somebody with an apparent surname that suggests that their forefathers were clerks stalking a MP?

ijclark · 10/03/2023 06:34

I understand some people aren’t interested in what their MP does in parliament, i totally get that. For some people it’s all a show and the real politically activity is conducted by “shadowy forces” that no-one knows. I totally respect that that is your perspective, it’s understandable to take that position.

For me, however, I think it’s important to know what your MP is doing to inform future voting and to hold them to account. My MP didn’t turn up for the usual international women’s day speeches. I think that’s notable given she claims to be a feminist. It’s also notable that she didn’t attend despite giving interviews beforehand saying she was going to give a powerful speech on the topic. Even more notable that she didn’t turn up when her colleague read the names of murdered women this last year and included Brianna Ghey, for which her colleague was attacked all day long. A colleague that she supposedly respects given she supported her campaign for the leadership.

Again, I completely get some people aren’t interested in what their MP gets up to. I’m somewhat curious that mine, who professes to be a feminist, wasn’t their to stand with her sisters. Anyway, enjoy your day. I can’t keep answering people’s obsessive hot takes :)

I dipped back in to check on latest developments and see ijclark is still grinding their axe on this thread. Astonishing.

drwitch · 10/03/2023 07:07

@iijclark she had a migraine. Do you think she deliberately snubbed the session?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/03/2023 07:24

I don't like my MP either, but I don't keep track of his every move. Weird.

drwitch · 10/03/2023 07:33

Would be interesting to see how much abuse the previous mp for our constituency got from this quarter
