It seems the only ones celebrating are ranger supporters in Glasgow , if you are like them you can join . I wouldn’t be very proud of it

Oh ha, ha, ha. Nice but of sectarian bigotry. Unfortunately for the separatist cause Rangers supporters have as much right to vote as anyone else.

I'm not in Glasgow and not a Rangers' supporter and I'm delighted.

Childrenofthestones · 15/02/2023 23:26

Or was it Jean from Aberdeen what won it with ye canne throw ye grannie af a bus. 😁

TheBiologyStupid · 15/02/2023 23:48

The re-writing and misinterpretations of the Equality Act 2010 is extremely frustrating and I have to be careful when pointing out their errors so I don't get called a fucking TERF.

Sadly, simply knowing the correct protected characteristics and the actual law - and not Stonewall's version of it - is probably enough to out you anyway, I suspect, NicolaSturGONE.

Not many ! Probably don’t even live in Scotland or have any idea of what Scotland is truly like

Live in Scotland, born here and lived here all my life.
Never supported independence but that is my right, my choice, just like it's your choice to support it ......I'm assuming you supported independence as you seem to be hurting a tad.

Chief Mammy lost out to the Second Wave feminists – Joan McAlpine

Asked about gender recognition yesterday she said she wished the debate could be more “rational”, insinuating women who opposed her policy were irrational. She might as well have called them hysterical witches. But in the end the witches could not be tellt. Nicola chose to take on an angry army of Scottish mammies, and lost.

Born and live in Scotland. I'm delighted Sturgeon has gone. I hope this puts an end to the separatist delusion once and for all.

Fukuraptor · 16/02/2023 01:12

I'm Scottish, living in Scotland and chuffed to bits with Sturgeon going. I find that with politicians it's much more instructive to pay attention to what they do rather than what they say.

Sturgeon was good at telling people how brilliant and lefty she was whilst carrying on underfunding councils, colleges, universities, NHS, etc. Queen of virtue signalling, self righteousness and believing her own PR.

Delphinium20 · 16/02/2023 03:58

Glaswegian Carolyn Ryan said: “The final blow was the global success of the Hogwarts Legacy game. Sturgeon’s seen those sales figures. She knows it’s over.

😎

Interesting and credible analysis. (But then I am not Scottish.)

TD:LR Independence campaign had lost momentum

Perhaps the gender bill was the last throw of the dice. Rush it through and provoke a war with nasty, illiberal, Westminster. Until her bluff was called by a double rapist.

You just know that given the choice between Joanna Cherry and Katie Forbes that the SNP are going to do a total 360 and go for the woman with the demeanour of bar soap.

Joanna Cherry is a Westminster MP for Edinburgh South West, so I'm not sure she could take over in Holyrood!

TinpotNostradamus · 15/02/2023 18:59

Why do you have to be a Scot to care about Scotland?

I'm not ashamed to be a unionist.

Ahhhh crap, I was going with your username next, mine will shortly be outdated.

Nvm I'll see something else here soon.

Biden could be in a lot of trouble if he is against anyone but Trump at the next Presidential.

Unless Trump also stands and splits the vote.

Id go as far as saying I think US is probably on track for a Republican presidency UNLESS it's Trump.

Which is exactly what they said when Trump ran against Clinton.

Baldieheid · 16/02/2023 08:39

Much as the rapists charter did little to add credibility to the GRR stuff, I suspect this is mostly down to financial irregularities and the police investigation.
I've no doubt she's fed up. I've no doubt there's only so long anyone, male or female, can handle the pressure of facing the music they themselves have written. I've no doubt that this Did Not Go To Plan.

I'm hopeful the next FM will represent ALL of Scotland fairly, but I don't think that's how politics works nowadays.

I just hope whoever it is tells the green lunatics to eff off. They've parasited into gov and, like a swollen, bloated tick, they need burned off.

NotBadConsidering · 16/02/2023 09:19

Even now, despite everything, while reporting how the GRR played a role in her resignation, media organisations are STILL referring to Adam Graham as Isla Bryson and “she”. What’s wrong with them?!

PaterPower · 16/02/2023 09:42

Opposition to GRR probably played a part but, given the manner of her resignation, I think that something else is bubbling up and we’ve just not become aware of it yet.

The allegations over how the SNP spent funds raised for Indy, or the question marks over her husband’s finances seem most likely. Are we about to (or does she think we’re about to) see more details come out about any of that?

None of her potential replacements look like they’re any less enamoured of the gender woo, so it’s only a short term win IMO.

Sugarfree23 · 16/02/2023 09:47

I think it's a mix of the GRR Bill and the police fraud investigation.

I think they'll have been pressure from within SNP for her to go. They need to back out of GRR and she can't do a 180 degree turn.

Chersfrozenface · 16/02/2023 10:05

I don't know that they will back out of the GRR Bill.

They may still hope that the enacting of Section 35 will be enough to regroup Scottish public opinion behind it.

They may decide to reopen the debate on the Bill in order to allow through amendments on the clauses which are most unpopular with the public and giving rise to the most unwanted attention in the media. Though how they could do that constitutionally when it's already been passed in the Scottish Parliament, I don't know.

They may just hope the furore dies down as the attention of the public and the media shifts to other things and the GRR Act just stays on the statute book.

Equally, I don't know how realistic any of those strategies would be.

ArabellaScott · 16/02/2023 10:15

There's been no further movement on the challenging of Section 35, has there? There are time limits on that, I thought.

ArabellaScott · 16/02/2023 10:16

'Schedule 7 of the Scotland Act 1998 provides that a section 35 order will immediately become and remain law unless it is rejected by either House of Parliament within 40 sitting days. The UK Government can also make time to debate a section 35 order in Parliament.
What would happen if a section 35 order is made?

A section 35 order cannot be overturned by the Scottish Parliament. The Scottish Government could amend and reconsidered the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill, or it could challenge the UK Government’s section 35 order via judicial review.

Such a challenge could argue that the Secretary of State for Scotland lacked “reasonable grounds” for believing the Bill would have an adverse impact on how the law operates with respect to reserved matters. A court would either find that the order was made lawfully or unlawfully. If the latter, then it would cease to have any legal force or effect and the Presiding Officer would be able to present the Bill for Royal Assent.'

The Fail are reporting that the SNP intend to drop the S35 challenge (and the GRR bill). So that’s something positive (if true).
