Loving the podcasts, I just can't get my head around JK stating others rights shouldn't be a given at the cost to her rights and other biological women's rights then gets massively shot down for a personal opinion and it is wished upon her to be choked to death with fat dicks? Kind of proves her point? Reality a biological man could do her a lot more harm then her him?

I listened to the conversation between Sam Harris and Megan Phelps Roper. It was interesting that Megan seems to be at the stage where she's floating the idea that woman can refer to gender, and we can keep female for when we need to talk about sex.

It's a popular compromise suggested here by posters who see the issues but aren't ready to go the full terf, as it were, so they come here hoping that there must be some shades of grey and that if we could all just calm down and be a bit kinder, then surely we could find a solution that will work for everyone.

I admire the sentiment, I really do, but it's a vain hope.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 05/04/2023 07:47

I agree @VitaminX - was pleasantly surprised that Sam Harris was much terfier tho!

Cooroo · 07/04/2023 20:17

Just listened to the last episode (have heard all of them) and I think JKR is one of the wisest women I've heard. Moving, honest and she has really thought all of this through very carefully.

Hats off to Megan Phelps for putting this incredible podcast together.

Also I won't forget Noah and really hope that they find what they are looking for - Noah came across as a very intelligent but troubled young woman.

Megan Phelps-Roper is to be interviewed by Evan Davies about the series on Radio 4 PM today.

Genesis1v27 · 11/04/2023 17:08

^ Evan Davis.

Bunshaped · 11/04/2023 17:14

I feel my hackles rising at the very mention of ED.

But I will listen. Thanks for the heads-up.

TheBiologyStupid · 11/04/2023 23:23

Evan's interview with Megan wasn't too terrible, considering... At least the podcast series got a shout-out!

Battytwatty · 12/04/2023 08:22

@ShireWifeofNigelFarage I have just finished watching that documentary you suggested. Jesus Christ. Some serious eye bleaching needed. Everyone needs to watch it!

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 12/04/2023 11:16

I enjoyed listening to Megan Phelps-Roper run rings round Evan Davis.

UtopiaPlanitia · 12/04/2023 13:18

I’m listening to the interview with Phelps-Roper now and rolling my eyes at ED describing his coverage of this issue as calm and measured in covering both sides of the debate 🙄

Magenta82 · 12/04/2023 17:39

I liked the Sam Harris podcast, not not enough to pay for the rest of it! It's good he has come out in on JKR's side.
Evan Davis is awful.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 16/04/2023 13:11

Been reading Megan Phelps-Roper's autobiography "Unfollow" (which is on a 99p special deal at Amazon for anyone who's interested!) and she is a remarkable person with a remarkable story. And yes I can really see why JKR chose her. Maybe Evan Davis didn't realise that as well as being highly tuned to ethical issues she's been managing hostile media interest since she was 11 Grin

fabricstash · 16/04/2023 15:49

Thanks

What the podcasts identified is that the current JKR hatred movement is identical to the evangelical religious hate movement against her a couple of decades ago.

Allegedly terfs are aligned with religious people and yet the righteous social justice anti JKR people are doing exactly what the religious groups did to her!

There's been multiple witch trials of JK Rowling, this is just the latest. Both groups have branded her as evil. Both consider her a villain. Both have insisted on bans and vilification.

She does consider the current trans movement dangerous in it's authoritarianism. The evidence of this is all over as we know and comes directly from the insistence that we must all believe TWAW.

TheBiologyStupid · 17/04/2023 20:55

Indeed - it's not the people on this board who share book burning with the Nazis, despite that slur being thrown around in our direction.

Littlesprouts · 18/04/2023 09:57

This to me was the whole point - and what I gathered from the title, which it seems many people don't (or don't want to). Plenty of people (even Evan Davies) have taken it as a chance say she's 'claiming victimhood' which of course is not the case at all. Like the essay, it's an easy way of identifying who's criticising without listening.

AlisonDonut · 18/04/2023 21:48

Can't just let women speak about it without someone shoving a man to tell us how we need to think. So fucking bored of men.

McSweeney · 18/04/2023 21:43

just going to leave this here for anyone interested in the other side of the debate….

Can you summarise? That video is almost two hours long and we already heard Wynn’s opinions over several episodes of the podcast!

(I see it’s not going down very well on Vaush’s subreddit…)

nauticant · 18/04/2023 22:27

I'll have a go at providing a summary:

Unless it's a radical departure from Contrapoints normal output it'll be meretricious shit with very pedestrian or misleading points presented amongst a blizzard of flummery/visual tricks/shiny stuff.

Hepwo · 18/04/2023 22:47

There is a great review on twitter you may enjoy.

That's excellent, Hepwo!

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 18/04/2023 22:59

Ah, nae bother, @McSweeney - Nauticant and Hepwo have saved you from the chore of actually listening to and then synopsising the video you posted.

Here’s screenshots of Hep’s link for the lazy:

I rather like the cut of this Rudy chap’s jib, he seems a far more informative and entertaining source for a male opinion on LGB & sex based rights matters than N. Wynn, anyway!

Contrapoints puts more thought into the outfit changes than the attempts at critique 🥱

The overlong videos are increasingly an opportunity to indulge in cosplay rather than to make useful social commentary.
