Ooh great, thanks. Have downloaded. Was talking to a friend the other day about JKR - her daughter is trying to convince her that JK is evil. She said the only thing she found convincing was that JKR's pen name is Robert Galbraith, which is the same name as a famous eugenicist. Obviously that is very weak sauce. But I did say that I'd send her the podcast when it came out so she could get stuck in to the full debate. So excited for this!

littlbrowndog · 21/02/2023 12:01

Me too 🙌🏽🙌🏽

nauticant · 21/02/2023 18:56

There's some great listennig in those two programmes.

Assuming the narrative we're getting is correct, I had no idea the Columbine school shootings had affected the US in the ways set out.

There's nearly two hours so far. If anyone is interested but pushed for time I'd suggest listening to the last 9 minutes of episode 2. It's effectively the JKR manifesto. When you compare it to what we get from the genderists, mixed in with their hatred and rejection of reality, you can start to think that maybe compassion and reality will actually win in the end.

Robert Galbraith - the famous geneticist so famous that no one has actually ever heard of him.

Robert Galbraith - the famous geneticist so famous that no one has actually ever heard of him.

According to Wikipedia (I know...):
Rowling later said she enjoyed working as Robert Galbraith,.a name she took from Robert F. Kennedy, a personal hero, and Ella Galbraith, a name she invented for herself in childhood.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._K._Rowling#Adult_fiction_and_Robert_Galbraith

I can't help wondering if there might also have been a hat tip to the liberal economist JK Galbraith.

sanluca · 21/02/2023 19:47

Google is your friend:

The surname Galbraith is the 20,692nd most commonly occurring family name globally, held by approximately 1 in 275,834 people. This surname is primarily found in The Americas, where 57 percent of Galbraith are found; 56 percent are found in North America and 56 percent are found in Anglo-North America.

So JK chooses a very common surname and a very common first name and then gets linked to a person with the same very common firstname and very common surname.

HairyPooter · 21/02/2023 20:29

Very very interesting podcast. I was completely absorbed.

What I found ironic was the legal win by parents to insist that children had the right to information (ie books in school libraries) was over Harry Potter books. And that Harry Potter win set a precedent in protecting LGBT books being banned.

I think I explained that right.

KatMcBundleFace · 21/02/2023 20:52

Really worth a listen, can't wait for more episodes.

Thought I'd tidy my bedroom, and I discovered a t shirt sketch I'd made back in lockdown. The company never got back to me about making it for me....booo
Shame they are normally great at one offs. Oh well. It turned up today and how apt!

I'm not 10, I'm just not very good at drawing newts. I need a better newt really.

Tanith · 21/02/2023 21:02

"So JK chooses a very common surname and a very common first name and then gets linked to a person with the same very common firstname and very common surname."

Actually not even that. Robert Heath was never known as Robert Galbraith. Galbraith was his middle name.

Wbeezer · 21/02/2023 21:09

I was thinking about this when I drove past a very large Estate agent sign today with Galbraith plastered all over it. They are well known commercial property agents of long standing and as such their signs appear stuck on buildings all around central Scotland. I couldn't help wondering if she'd been subliminally prompted.

Datun · 21/02/2023 22:06

I can't imagine why people don't think that the far greater likelihood is that she deliberately named herself after a eugenicist.

Totes plausible.

CampervanKween · 21/02/2023 22:19

I've been listening to this today. A really excellent interesting podcast so far.

I've just listened to Chapter 1. I had no idea that JK's first husband tried to take the manuscript of the first HP book hostage.

Thumpsquids · 22/02/2023 07:38

I've just finished episode two, and found it to be a wonderfully engaging listen. The first episode is harrowing, and the similarities drawn between evangelical groups, and the current attacks by TRAs in episode two are vivid. I'm looking forward to more.

Peckhaminn · 22/02/2023 09:10

Not really sure what this is about but listening now! Hopefully it'll be good

OrangeToothbrush · 22/02/2023 09:56

A really interesting and considered listen, joining some interesting dots so far. All the better for its impartial stance, as it's a hell of a lot more professional that that nasty hatchet job from CNN.
