Any lawyers seen the video of RMW "explaining" GC beliefs?

I don't think I can say what was said here due to copyright but in my opinion it is an intensely biased explanation of GC beliefs. Why get someone so opposed to GC beliefs to explain what they are in such a partisan way?

In essence, it presents GC as an extreme belief that is challenging for employers to accommodate (it says that if an employer finds out they have an employee with GC beliefs the first thing they should do is not panic!!!) and says that people with GC beliefs think trans people are "wrong" and should not be supported.

It is on one of the leading legal subscription websites - not sure if I can say which but it's not Lexis!

When I said earlier that I believe GD exists, what I meant is that I believe there is a small minority of individuals who have a genuine, visceral loathing of their body based around their genitals / secondary sex characteristics and who feel they would be happier without those body parts. But as “gender” is, ultimately, a load of made up bollocks that varies across time and geography, it’s not possible for “gender dysphoria” to be inherent. It would be more accurate to call it a form of body dysmorphia.

If it were possible for GD, or the predisposition toward it, to be inherent in young children, we would see far less destransition than we do, and would be far closer than we are to having some kind of diagnostic test to identify who will and won’t desist before life-altering treatment was administered.

And you would, presumably, see the same number of girls as boys, which you don't.

White thought long and hard?

It was practically five minutes before that article was published.

White is bleating about bile, and yet when we get an example of the bile? It's using the word male.

Totally untethered from reality.

Signal, I note RMW’s use of dehumanising language “gender crits” in that tweet. There’s a poster on here who does that regularly. I can’t remember the user name.

Margie PIE.

Not been seen since they were called out on their transphobia after mocking the voice and appearance of a transwoman

My own (layperson) view is that body dysmorphia exists and the way it manifests is based on experiences and trauma the person has suffered

It can manifest as anorexia, cosmetic surgeries taken to excess, SRS and so on depending on the 'trigger' but ultimately they are all symptoms of the same root cause.

Even things like excessive exercise/weight training to chase a 6 pack also fall under this umbrella imo.

Going back to the original post. I'm really shocked that Practical Law is platforming RMW publishing offensive and legally inaccurate stuff. They are really looked up to among lawyers - perhaps not for long.

Sorry I should specify that Practical Law is well regarded, not RMW....

I have read a couple of studies which suggest that anorexia, body dysmorphia, and gender dysmorphia all share some similarities in the area of the brain which seems to control our self images causing distortions in what we see in the mirror, for instance.

I'm not an expert in that field so can't tell how accurate this is, but my own experience with anorexia (a long time ago and over) was that I saw myself as chubby in the mirror even when I was dangerously underweight, and even though intellectually I knew that I was underweight.

This changed one day when I was waiting to cross the street with lots of other pedestrians. A bus covered the other side of the street when we began crossing the street, but it moved away before we reached the other side, and revealed a large shop window which the sun hit so I suddenly saw the whole group of people walking across the street toward the window, and one of the people was this skeletal thing. Me. I somehow realised that I was seeing myself properly for the first time in a year.

That was the start of my recovery.

Thank you so much! It took quite a while, but it is possible to completely recover.

I sympathise, my eldest sister was bulimic from 13 till her early 20s. She's tiny, as a result of it.
