Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

This is how Welsh Labour treats women who ask reasonable questions about gender ideology

See the video. Laura Ann Jones (Conservative) asks a well-reasoned and thoughtful question about yesterday's LGB and TQ+ action plan. She's representing the views of the majority of her constituents.

Hannah Blythyn (Labour) Big sigh. 'Shameful'. 'You should know better than this'. 'Endangering the lives of the community.' 'Nothing to say to her.'

I hope the Welsh Labour Party will discipline Blythyn. She's brought the party and the Senedd into disrepute. She and all the others like her are driving Welsh voters into the arms of the Tories.

This doesn't seem to have got any traction in the media or on social media. If you could Tweet and share in GC circles it could be important in helping publicise just how shockingly bad things are here in Wales. We have a runaway government that needs to to stopped.

Do they not read the papers? Have they no awareness how much bad press this is going to get them, I don’t understand it.
What’s ‘shameful’ about asking about women’s rights?

Boiledbeetle · 08/02/2023 11:35

Oh that was appalling behaviour from HB.

What the fuck Labour!

So sick of this chastising and petulance from the wrong side of history crew.

"Your words have a dangerous impact" Confused

What the actual? FFS this makes me so angry.

There is nothing wrong with what she said.

FebName · 08/02/2023 15:35

Well done Laura Ann.

Shamefully behaviour from the deputy.

pattihews · 08/02/2023 15:36

And she says it despite the fact that we've had Adam Graham et al in the spotlight in Scotland in the last few days. Are they really this stupid?

Shameful behaviour from all involved in pushing this through.

I get the distinct impression that women should put up and shut up from the Welsh government.

IwantToRetire · 08/02/2023 19:24

Seems there was an existing thread about this, that I didn't see althouhg I did look.

Sorry posted on the wrong thread!

Endangering the lives of the community.

why does no one ever challenge this shite directly when they spout it?

How exactly is any of this endangering lives? What is the risk to life? Where does it come from?

Because it will be some sort of dangerous suicide myth (actually more than that, it’s actually validating the idea that suicide is a reasonable response to people not agreeing with you). And any politician who is saying this stuff needs to have a word with themselves and behave much more responsibly.

spiderplantparty · 08/02/2023 19:38

I agree I never understand what exactly is meant when trans supporters talk about any form of opposition meaning that lives will be endangered. I have heard that trans people generally often suffer from poor mental health and would support mental health services being improved to help with that.

mach2 · 08/02/2023 19:54

This is the alternative to the Tories?

BornBlonde · 08/02/2023 20:10

HB could not reasonably answer or debate so went with "shameful".

Personally I find it shocking that women & girls are AGAIN ignored and by a female MP!

pattihews · 08/02/2023 20:43

One of the most shocking things is that Hannah Blythyn is a lesbian and certainly knows the difference between the sexes.

A sad state of affairs isn’t it ?

JoodyBlue · 09/02/2023 10:53

Yes "shameful" is exactly the same as "no debate" isn't it? Refusal to address the issues raised. Equivalent to Sturgeon's "not valid" in response to concerns for women.

JoodyBlue · 09/02/2023 10:55

The smirking really gets to me though. It is so self righteous and appears so childish and playing with one upmanship. Really shocking behaviour.

WickedSerious · 09/02/2023 12:49

I can't wait for these fuckers to knock on my door asking me if they can count on my vote.

fiendishdragon · 09/02/2023 12:55

I've just written to my (Labour) MS to express my shock at how Laura Anne Jones was treated in the Senedd, and to say that I share her concerns and would like answers. I've also sent a postcard of support to her at the Senedd. (Postcard - means the staff will see my big THANK YOU as well.) Her contact details are here: senedd.wales/people/laura-anne-jones-ms/
