Really?. What made you say that?

That’s a very odd thing to say, isn’t it?

That is the incorrect comparator.

Swap it for ‘man’ or ‘woman’. Why do you feel the need to resort to a tropish comparison to race? Oh yes, that try to make out that discussing this is phobic.

How about discussing whether it raises more alarms that this was someone who was male suspect abducting an 11 year old girl and the potential for sexual assault or abuse and potential violence vs people reading that it was a female suspect ?

How about discussing the reporting aspect of this situation if the media announced to the world that this was a woman because this person identifies as a woman vs a reporting it was a man? ie the facts.

If you justtellingthetruth cared about your name, you would be horrifed to be lied to by media, by the courts, by our elected representatives. Males don’t lose their male patterns of behaviour including crime.

You and a small percentage of the population might like to live in a world where what you want to believe is how things are reported, but you are the minority. Making unfounded accusations of phobia isn’t going to stop people discussing this.

This was a male suspect and there was an overwhelming likelihood it would have been reported as a female suspect. That it hasn’t is a signal to you and others of a similar mind that the general public wants the truth and the tolerance for misrepresentation due to gender identity is dropping every single day.

  1. “Trans woman” has no meaning. If it had one, it would be a woman who is trans, which is what is normally termed a transman.
  2. “Person of colour” has a generally recognised meaning.

You can’t simply substitute one for another and say that means anything.

Happylittlechicken · 09/02/2023 06:03

Ooh is this another ‘you’re racist because you are recognising biological sex’ post @Justellingthetruth

Justellingthetruth · 09/02/2023 06:33

@Happylittlechicken

you are upset as you recognise what you are.
now you try to deflect

it's about bad people not what they present as.

Happylittlechicken · 09/02/2023 06:40

it's about bad people not what they present as.

So you are saying a male will always be a male even if he presents as a woman? Well there we agree
why is the fact this male claims to be a woman not relevant?

Justellingthetruth · 09/02/2023 06:43

@Feministwoman

all forms of discrimination are not ok.
you can't choose who.

I am sure you see that as a self proclaimed feminist woman

so the fact a girl is missing is not ok.

Happylittlechicken · 09/02/2023 06:47

So stating a male with a trans identity abducted this girl is now discrimination. Righto. But wouldn’t not mentioning the trans identity be erasing transpeople? Surely transpeople want to be treated exactly the same as everyone else. So if you say a man abducted this girl, you’re misgendering the person who abducted her, which is transphobic no?

So people of colour 'present' themselves that way do they? They have a choice in how they appear? I didn't know people of colour could identify out of the barriers they face.

Or, is it a completely irrelevant- indeed bigoted and racist- comparison to make?

Bullshit. Women discriminate against men by having single sex spaces. That is a discrimination which is at times required. Blanket statements are nonsensical. When it comes to discrimination, not all are equal. You need to find an equivalent to racial discrimination for the comparison to work. Sex and gender aren't it.

picklemewalnuts · 09/02/2023 06:57

GrabbyGabby · 08/02/2023 18:53

Risking a ban for this. But Scotland is a small country, and we have at least 4 trans identified men arrested/charged/imprisoned for crimes involving violence against women and girls. Given the horrendously low reporting rate of VAWG and the even lower conviction rates and the very small number of trans people according to the census, at what point can we start asking the question whether there is a correlation between a trans identiy and a propensity for VAWG. By creating such a large umbrella trans identity, that includes people with parafilias (a known risk factor for sexual violence), i do wonder if Stonewall has created a field that is ripe for splintering.

There's a link factor in the lack of respect for women, and the disregard for women's boundaries.

Anyone who thinks woman is a bundle of stereotypical behaviours and clothes they can copy disrespects women.

Anyone who thinks woman equals sexualised clothing, ditto.

Anyone who forces their way into women's spaces when they are not entitled to, the same.

By definition those people are more likely to be violent towards women and girls. When you add in the greater make propensity for violence, it's starting to look high risk.

discrimination is wrong in all it's forms.
so this is wrong
you can't pick a choose
and you should not better than attempting to use deflection technique back to people when you discriminate
I know you will find this hard to accept but that does not mean it's not true

given your mumsnets net name you are clearly ok with lies and discrimination as Nigel Farages Brexit posters showed. If you still think he was right re Brexit and didn't lie, I am troubled my your reasoning.

Honestly. Yes you can, and yes you do. We discriminate people all they one. Against adults when it comes to primary school, or by age and size when it comes to roller coasters. Hell, I discriminate against half the population when it comes to dating.

People seem to believe 'discrimination' is in itself forbidden, a dirty word and conversation stopping insult.

It isn't.

We legally and deliberately discriminate against men on the basis of sex, because of their greater strength, power and male pattern violence. Otherwise you'd have no women's sport and even more female victims of male violence than you do already.

When 98 percent of all sex crimes stop being committed by men, then maybe we can talk.

Datun · 09/02/2023 07:16

Justellingthetruth · 09/02/2023 07:23

@Datun

well if you think you can and you do then you are defining yourself and trying to excuse discrimaination.

I hope in time you learn to foregive yourself

Datun · 09/02/2023 07:24

discrimination is wrong in all it's forms.

Nope.

We, quite evidently, justifiably discriminate against men, all the time. Take it up with them as to why it's considered legally justifiable.

discriminate
/dɪˈskrɪmɪneɪt/

make an unjust or prejudicial distinction in the treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of ethnicity, sex, age, or disability.
"existing employment policies discriminate against women"

recognize a distinction; differentiate.
"babies can discriminate between different facial expressions"

picklemewalnuts · 09/02/2023 07:25

And definition one qualifies with the concept of justification. (Hence the single sex exceptions in the equality act.)

My name is pisstake!

I don’t live in a shire either!

Discrimination isn’t always a bad thing. Discrimination can be ‘positive’ for starters.
And safeguarding protocols such as DBS discriminate against everyone as a start point.
Sex offenders are discriminated against when deciding who can work with vulnerable people.

Discrimination isn’t a term that belongs to EDI alone.
