But would it help to understand the appallingly poorly-written headline to have read the whole article (which the person who posted the link has since summarised, thank you)? Even now knowing what the story covers, I'm none the wiser as to what the first part of the headline (before the hyphen) is supposed to mean.

My point is that journalists presumably have to walk a tight line between reporting the news accurately and, if they're writing from a particular stance of them or their newspaper supporting the GC position, reporting it in a way that calls out some of the outrageous doublethink of the TWAW brigade. This would have been an excellent chance to do both, but is ruined by being so poorly expressed as to be gibberish.

Have a look at the thread on IPSO guidelines that I started under a different username ‘NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom’ a couple of weeks ago.

It’s a pile of stupid shit that needs sorting.

The Mail are an IPSO publication

The Guardian aren’t signed up to IPSO regs but have a ‘House Style’ imposed from the top.

I reckon this journo had two options on reporting that wouldn’t break the guardian house style.

  1. Male name and male pronouns + lady name
  2. ‘Lady’ name and female pronouns + transgender status

Option 2 would have them as an outlier, the ONLY paper leading with the lady name.

Sturgeon is fucked

guinnessguzzler · 08/02/2023 17:33

100% she is. And the Guardian can fuck right off too. How dare they? According to Stonewall this person is trans, according to how the Scottish Prison Service has operated in recent years, this person would go in with the women and according to the recently voted through GRR legislation this person would certainly be eligible for a GRC and everything that follows from that. How dare they now all turn around and call this person a man, and avoid mentioning trans at all, when five minutes ago any one of us would have been in trouble for misgendering her if we did that. The public are not stupid and they will now see not only what bad law the GRR was but many will also feel huge relief that UK Gov stepped in to block it. Sturgeon has absolutely stuffed herself with this.

P.S. Glad to bring some laughs to all those who appreciated my grim humour earlier ... I nearly didn't post as I felt certain it would be my first ever deletion. Then I realised it was totally worth it 😂

Amen to that.

Sturgeon is fucked

When the UK government‘s response to the GRR bill was debated at Westminster, Stephen Flynn bellowed that MPs opposed to the GRR were “rancid gammon”. I hope people don’t let him forget that. If Sturgeon is on the way out, most of the rest of the SNP should get their coats too.

Hmm, I find that rather shameless from the Grauniad.

Not sure it's to do with a concern for accuracy but rather to protect The Precious Most Marginalised by burying the key line under several paragraphs of copy.

This. The Guardian are breaking their own rules of twaw because he's a bad'un and will therefore harm the cause of self-id. Thus isn't an about turn its more of the same.

With a few honourable exceptions, Holyrood is packed with half wits who believe in a magic that.can change men into women in an instant. Or at least into a woman for legal purposes if not actually.
If only there were a way to get them all out of the Parliament and start afresh with new MPs who do.not subscribe to magical thinking.
It is small wonder that Scotland is on the ropes. The SNP are destroying us with nonsense.

Sazzasez · 08/02/2023 18:32

This bloke has been claiming to be a woman for 6 years, openly “living as a woman” (which seems to mean makeup, wig, skirts etc) for as long, maintaining social media presence as a woman & describing themselves as “a single woman looking to meet single women” on social media.

But @MargaritaPie doubts they’re really trans.

What was it about the arrest on charges of child abduction that made you think so, PIE?

GrabbyGabby · 08/02/2023 18:53

Risking a ban for this. But Scotland is a small country, and we have at least 4 trans identified men arrested/charged/imprisoned for crimes involving violence against women and girls. Given the horrendously low reporting rate of VAWG and the even lower conviction rates and the very small number of trans people according to the census, at what point can we start asking the question whether there is a correlation between a trans identiy and a propensity for VAWG. By creating such a large umbrella trans identity, that includes people with parafilias (a known risk factor for sexual violence), i do wonder if Stonewall has created a field that is ripe for splintering.

This is one of the problems with "acceptance without exceptions". In fact, it is the logical outcome of that principle.

Exactly. They’re doubling down, not turning around.

Tinysoxxx · 08/02/2023 21:06

Do you think there’s any reporters left at the Guardian that look at this and think it’s getting crowded with a growing number of elephants in the room?

The problem is that elephants will keep on coming. They have managed to get a bit of extra room by letting some women out. But they are going to be left in a massive metaphorical pile of poo to shovel as by bigging up this ideology, it’s getting harder to hide the elephants, even by shutting the blinds. And thanks to Scotland, more people have been given glasses.

Tinysoxxx · 08/02/2023 21:09

Elephants= acceptance without exceptions except for consistent reporting

i reckon there must be.

Even their pro trans writers are struggling, this is a tweet from their gaming correspondent, she’s a young, Scottish lesbian who seems to be struggling with not being allowed to print outright lies about JK Rowling’s ‘transphobia’!

Can’t remember whether posting about AGP is likely to get this post deleted, but I can’t help wondering when the TRAs are going to do an about-face and start differentiating between AGPs and “TrueTrans”.

I suspect you will get deleted but you are absolutely right. It's not something that can be properly discussed in the current climate though.

There’s a reason Ed Gein inspired horror films.

The AGPs seem to comprise middle aged middle class wealthy men in high up positions mostly in tech. They are narcissistic and influential and drown out the "true trans" who they refer to as "truscum"

This will be deleted guaranteed.

From a legal point of view, he didn't appear today, I am no longer practicing but I think encountered that once.

No mention of that I can see or where being held

I posted this upthread, says Selkirk Sheriff’s court - will that help you find anything?

MathSage · 08/02/2023 21:57

Keza MacDonald also writes the Guardian’s gaming newsletter. In the latest one she waffles on about the controversy and tries ever so hard to say JKR is transphobic without ever quite saying it. Lots of suggestion that other people have said so. But no evidence, they’re all simply intoning TWAW.

Will he be remanded in custody, do you think?

And if so, to which prison?

yestheyhavethesamedad · 08/02/2023 22:43

Late scottish news just said , " a 53 year old man has been charged in connection of the disappearance , andrew miller who is also known as amy george " so under sturgeon and stonewalls definition this is a transwoman

Datun · 08/02/2023 23:03

This is just going to run and run.

Every time a man who says he's a woman commits a crime, the media will want to know if, under sturgeon's definitions, he's a man, a woman, a transwoman, or a common or or garden chancer. And what prison he should go to. And how do we decide. And, and, and.

It will never stop. All her 'carefully, well thought out criteria' falls over immediately.

This is going to get farcical.
