I thought this was a very interesting answer to the recent issue of RN.

Shout out to the vipers and their Mumsnet Feminism within!

I also feel alarmed that SW believes she has some kind of hold over Julie Bindel and was talking to her recently about the accusations of KJK associating with the ‘Proud Boys’.

I mean, KJK gets to hear JBs views because she’s spouting insinuations over twitter, but Whittle has some hot line and can get those manipulative hooks directly into JB and can work at her until she is ‘contrite’. WTF?

A bit of s’whittling away at JB and other lefty terves would certainly explain some of the ideas in the RN, eh?

Still, I’m inclined to think the comments I found are just puffery in Stephen Whittle’s fanfic about Stephen Whittle.
If any of us were cornered at a political party event and told stories of a young adult woman getting abusive messages online we’d be sympathetic to that woman.

That doesn’t mean we’d suddenly see the error of our ways and sprinkle rose petals on Eddie Izzard’s path to the ladies lavatory.

More fool JB if she is giving Whittle any time or attention

person who wants to spend their life pretending to be something they’re not and to force others to pretend they can’t see what sex they are is manipulative and duplicitous. What a shocker

Fair point, but still, JB is very strong on women in prisons. It’s disturbing she would. To me anyway.

Yes, Whittle is a weirdo fantasist pretending to be a jolly old duffer. Maybe JB was just going ‘mmmm’ ‘uh huh’ and knows better than to get on the wrong side of the crazies.

Adblock, baby Halo

And this is not the first time we have seen some of the old guard, those who prefer to call themselves transsexuals despite all the abuse they get for it from the TQ+ lobby, see what it coming and try to re draw the line between themselves and other TQ people in a way that would exclude those people but still permit transsexuals access to women's single sex spaces.

They can blame Christine Burns and Press for Change for that. Burns’s book includes an account of how they worked on popularising ‘trans’ as a catch-all term so that the general public wouldn’t differentiate between transsexuals and transvestites.

pattihews · 08/02/2023 11:20

I do question the mocking piece. Pointing at men and saying they look ridiculous in women's clothes, just reinforces the idea that some clothes are reserved some some sexes.

I don't think that's it. It's about the local man who's been known for years to have major MH issues, who now goes to buy chips each lunchtime dressed in fishnet tights, a mini skirt and black patent ankle boots with 6-inch heels with full make-up over heavy stubble. It's about the trans lesbian who turns up on a lesbian-only camping weekend in pink micro shorts, a strappy top and an M&S lady-fleece while all the lesbians are wearing cargo pants and men's shorts and walking boots and beanies.

I've never pointed or ridiculed, but when I first encountered chip shop man I certainly did a double take and maybe a quick nervous laugh, because this is not how 99% of women would present in the circumstances.

pattihews · 08/02/2023 11:22

Is there any solid evidence that SW's Reddit is anything to do with Press for Change Stephen Whittle?

After playing a very close game for many years it would seem an extraordinarily stupid thing to do.

Whittle came on a mumsnet thread wittering on, posturing, boasting and raising eyebrows with a cavalier attitude to child safeguarding. If I remember rightly, regarding our concerns about teenaged boys sharing tents with girls at Girl Guides, Whittle thought you just need to supply the kids with condoms and be done with it. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s genuine. Sounds it.

There is no way anyone could fake a profile this detailed

Look at some of the other posts (the one about kids on the bus is from the Manchester subreddit)

I went to a tech conference pre-Covid where almost everyone was in jeans & comfortable shoes, apart from the one bloke in a tight scarlet & black dress & high heels.

Mention of Caroline Farrow

Okay, I haven't had time to do my due diligence this morning and I was hoping others had, and you have. I had no idea SW was so public. I thought the whole point of Helen Belcher and SW was working behind the scenes and not in public.

A few years ago I was in touch with a woman who was trying to do a profile on SW — a proper grown-up balanced feature for a well-known publication — and SW was extremely unhelpful and pleaded privacy. It seemed unlikely, given how careful about publicity she was then, that she wold be pouring it out on Reddit. But hooray!

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 08/02/2023 11:37

And claims to be ‘unsurprised’ that a trans person of the born-with-a-penis variety is a member of the Oathkeepers (a US Right Wing Militia, way more serious and dangerous than The Proud Boys)

Thanks for all these screenshots.

No fucking moral compass.

Ah, the poor ultra-right-wing murderous transpeople who have been sadly influenced by online crap line of defence, I see.

All the hyperlinks to SW on the Trans Whos Who website are dead and I assumed that Swhittle must’ve ordered takedowns for privacy reasons.

Maybe there has been some sort of cognitive decline (we don’t know the long term effects of FtM transition but early hysterectomy has been linked with early onset dementia in women who don’t take cross sex hormones…)?

Or maybe there is the misplaced assumption that terves can’t read Reddit? I assume trans discussion groups of years gone by were tightly locked down and it might not have occurred to Whittle that the new internet is bit different? 🤣

EndlessTea · 08/02/2023 11:45

I find it so chilling, hearing/reading these people wittering on and they seem to have have part of their brain missing - a conscience.

Like the friend who pretended to be a recovering alcoholic for years to be part of the AA. What a loon. But she rationalises extremely odd behaviour with barely any thought about the people deceived.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 08/02/2023 11:52

Direct link to the SW profile:

www.reddit.com/u/1955Stephen/

and here’s the thread from when SW popped up here to lecture the Bad, Non Compliant Mummies:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3212371-Where-are-all-the-trans-men-An-Answer

same username.

I think I’ve got all the relevant bits off the Reddit profile already but I do think it’s important that wimms be able to look at the direct source - plus perhaps I’ve missed something important because I don’t know all the lore!

Whittle recently retired so perhaps is just bored and wandering the internet seeking out validation!

pattihews · 08/02/2023 12:03

What I'm reading, in my 10-minute tea break (who am I kidding, I'll be at least half an hour) is someone who thinks that being transgender or being different means that you shouldn't be held to the same expectations of honesty and decency as the rest of the population. You're a trans woman who's joined an extreme right faction and then murdered someone — it's down to the fact that you were lonely and the only people who befriended you were murderous fascists. It's as if Whittle is arguing that transpeople aren't responsible adults like ordinary criminals.

Likewise the example of the TW who invented a drink problem in order to rise through the ranks of AA. Which suggests that SW thinks it's perfectly fine for transpeople to dupe people for their own purposes. As I, in the lesbian community, can attest happens all the time. It really is a case of, if it'll make you feel better about yourself, transpeople, do it and don't worry about the ethics or the damage you cause because none of the social rules apply to you.

BlackForestCake · 08/02/2023 12:05

Yeah, how come our side aren't allowed to just wave our hands and say “oh, the GC community is as diverse as any other community, outliers always exist” ? We're supposed to police every single person who turns up at a rally who once bought a copy of the Daily Express.

Yes it’s sociopathic isn’t it?

it made me think of what you said upthread:

the trans lesbian who turns up on a lesbian-only camping weekend in pink micro shorts, a strappy top and an M&S lady-fleece while all the lesbians are wearing cargo pants and men's shorts and walking boots and beanies.

There’s no empathy with the people whose trust is breached.

This sociopathic vibe is why I find ‘Trans Britain’ so hard going to read. They are all the same.

pattihews · 08/02/2023 12:11

How did I miss that thread in 2018?

I imagine that being retired means that SW can post what she wants where she wants now that she doesn't have to worry about bringing her institution into disrepute by publicly asserting that it's okay to con people.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 08/02/2023 12:13

If anyone is in direct contact with the women named in Swhittle’s posts, who I’ve counted up as Hadley Freeman, Julie Bindel, Helen Joyce, Posie, Doc Stock, Suzanne Moore, Sheila Jeffreys & Caroline Farrow (have I missed any) it might be worth dropping them a casual heads up? Whittle should know better than to trash public feminist figures from he* own profile.

Bit gauche innit?

teawamutu · 08/02/2023 12:15

Haven't made it through a single one of Whittle's stream -of-consciousness ramblings. Dunno what I expected from a professor, but not that.
