Rosie Kay: new dance company

Hello, I found Rosie Kay's new dance company online and thought that people on this forum might like to know.

She is currently holding auditions for new dancers and interestingly asking all of them to take note of a Creative Charter, which specifically references free speech. It seems that new performances of 5 soldiers might be coming up.
Best of luck to Rosie and her new dancers.

Fantastic news! Thank you for sharing!

Fabulous!

KatMcBundleFace · 07/02/2023 13:49

Great stuff, she was treated so horribly

Comefromaway · 07/02/2023 13:56

Love this at the top of the charter

“The invisible made visible is of sacred nature” Peter Brook

“Censorship is the height of vanity.” Martha Graham

“The beginning is always today.” Mary Wollstonecraft

MISSION STATEMENT

Rosie Kay feels strongly that the arts are under threat and the ability to think with liberty, to speak freely and to make the art you must is at risk, limiting the power of the arts to connect and severely hampering society as a whole. With her new company and advisory board of artistic, business, philosophic and legal expertise, Kay is ready to embark on a new phase of her career, being bolder and braver than ever. Being an artist has always felt like being ‘the outsider’ and now Kay knows that her voice is important to the younger generation, to older dancers and to audiences across the UK.

The purpose of K2CO is to create dance of the highest standards and to tour in partnership with the best theatres.

The company will focus on the importance of sex and gender in society, in history and in the arts currently.

The company will also focus on ideas around freedom of expression and censorship- what the purpose of the arts is to a society and how K2CO can play a part in demonstrating this- through the work created, through conversations, training and through connecting with audiences in person and online.

Good for her! Very good news.

Employers are going to need more of these kind of charters against behaviours that are often mindlessly destructive and disruptive and which soak up ridiculous amounts of everyone's time, energy and attention.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/02/2023 14:46

Fantastic news. She was treated abysmally and it's good to see that she's risen above the bullying.

BettyFilous · 07/02/2023 15:48

Funnily enough I listened to her interview with Brendan O’Neill this morning. She is clear-sighted, brave and thoughtful. I hope the establishment of her new company is a healing process for her. I have no doubt she will flourish, especially if she attracts other free-thinkers. There is an audience for the challenging works she pioneers. I will keep an eye out for her company & book tickets if she tours near to me.

JanieAllen · 07/02/2023 16:48

I think you can support her work as well. donorbox.org/k2d-support-rosie-kay

That's wonderful - best of luck to her. I will definitely go and see them if I get a chance.

What happened to the dancers from her previous company? Are they all kicking their heels wishing they’d STFU?

Here is the interview mentioned by @BettyFilous. I have started to listen to it now.

Congratulations to RK on getting up and running. All the best for the future.

I saw this:
The studio and the theatre is a safe space where we are free to express our thoughts and feelings without fear of being silenced, shut down or cancelled

This was the original meaning of "safe space". How quickly it came to mean the opposite ie a space where you will not hear anything you disagree with or which upsets you.

FannyCann · 07/02/2023 20:22

She's coming to a theatre near me - booked tickets yesterday. Really looking forward to it.

I'm sure that some of them might even have the nerve to audition, or perhaps just slate those who are selected for the new show...🙄

Best of luck Rosie. She sounds formidable based on that spiked interview, and hopefully she'll attract other independent thinkers as performers and audiences.

OrangeToothbrush · 16/02/2023 11:38

Rosie is a guest on Triggernometry this week:

OhHolyJesus · 16/02/2023 13:13

She was excellent - really enjoyed that interview.

CornedBeef451 · 16/02/2023 13:43

I just listened to the new Triggernomatry podcast with her and she's fantastic.

I really hope Five Soldiers tours, I can only find it in Bath and Blackpool so I'm really hoping it comes to Birmingham, particularly as she lives here, or used to at least.
