The responses are glorious and entirely predictable!

Wasn't there something written a while ago by someone who had analysed the language of OJs tweets and found that he repeatedly used the phrase 'the state of it' to refer to women he disagreed with and never to men.

Evidence that he doesn't see women as people... can anyone remember that?

SinnerBoy · 07/02/2023 12:06

*WOMEN! You're all horrid misogynists!!!

Signed,

Talcum X

P.S. how dare you disagree with me? You're all blocked.

So there.

Redshoeblueshoe · 07/02/2023 13:55

I saw some stats recently about The Guardian's market, how (pathetically) small their UK sales are, and how they're chasing the online US market. I've certainly read some very American-centric pieces from them without any acknowledgement that they were American iyswim.

OJ's repeating of the 'Christian, far right, anti-abortion' trope fits this mould too. But he surely can't believe that? He must surely know that the vast majority of people on our side of this fence are life-long lefties with liberal tendencies. Or maybe he's got his head so far down in the sand he's oblivious to all.

It's interesting though in another sense. He is really saying here that only women who have political views he agrees with should be able to have a political voice.

I wonder, would he include women who supported Brexit among those who shouldn't get to talk about women's issues? Only Christians, or are Orthodox Jewish women also supposed to shut up?

It's not just women, he has no respect for anyone who doesn't tick all the right tribal politics boxes.

They've convinced themselves that the people complaining are not women but complaining terfs and therefore beyond the pale and to be ignored. Our sex is meaningless to them; we are terfs, and therefore not fully human. (They know we're women, but won't admit it).

It's a bit like Nicla deciding Adam Bryson is 'rapist gender'.

This is very similar though to when they asked people to comment about the "problem" commenting under their feminism articles - stuff like Laura Bates. There were so many people complaining that when they made legitimate criticisms of these, they were moderated out. And the articles for the most part were truly shit, particularly in terms of things like statistical claims. Many people said, you would get fewer complaints if you had some better writers.

The Guardian response - shut down comments on those articles.

They dismiss anyone who disagrees with what they think is right-on.

TalcumX · 07/02/2023 18:19

I hate you all you horrible women.

I mean it's not like I ever did or said anything horrible about you.

You are all evil middle aged meanies who will thankfully die out soon.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I find his pinned 'look what you made us do' tweet fairly horribly suggestive as a misogynist trope.

You know, maybe it was the added piano music, but I don't think he's well.

Yes Yes Yes

Yes I thought that too.

Don't want to give him the satisfaction of watching his video.

MenopausalMe · 08/02/2023 11:47

Curious they can get away with continually deriding women who disagree with them as ‘Christian’ in terms of it being a bad thing given religion is a protected characteristic Confused

I liked the piano music, but feel a tiny violin would have been better.

I liked the fact someone else added the music apparently but OJ is still getting the shit for that as well!

Well isn't he annoyed at the mean women giving him a taste of his own medicine.

And he needs to lay off the coke.of

All that sugar is sending him straight up the walls!fast

And did he say at the end he doesn't even work for the Guardian?

I'm off for a second listen

Boiledbeetle · 08/02/2023 11:57

Listened again. He's saying about how he'd been blamed for people being driven out of the guardian. Then says I don't even work at the Guardian.

So who writes all their articles under the name Owen Jones then?

Perhaps he's like Lorraine - there's an Owen Jones for Tax Reasons; and the Real Owen Jones.

I rather suspect both are raging misogynists though Grin

Floisme · 08/02/2023 12:02

I imagine he just means that he's not one of the Guardian staff - I don't think many of their writers are these days.

Boiledbeetle · 08/02/2023 12:44

Thing is though full time permanent staff member or article by article the link between the Guardian and OJ is that strong it doesn't really make a difference.

The guardian would have to publicly distance themselves from OJ in order to break the link. Him just not getting any more articles accepted won't cut it.
