I saw some stats recently about The Guardian's market, how (pathetically) small their UK sales are, and how they're chasing the online US market. I've certainly read some very American-centric pieces from them without any acknowledgement that they were American iyswim.

OJ's repeating of the 'Christian, far right, anti-abortion' trope fits this mould too. But he surely can't believe that? He must surely know that the vast majority of people on our side of this fence are life-long lefties with liberal tendencies. Or maybe he's got his head so far down in the sand he's oblivious to all.

LizzieSiddal · 06/02/2023 22:33

Why would the Guardian employ someone who plainly gets kicks out of being a mansplaining bellend.

Boiledbeetle · 06/02/2023 22:34

Has anyone spotted a response that doesn't reference Owen?

😲😲

Two. Both complaining about 'misandry' and 'man-bashing'.

Lol.

How to say you are a misogynist without saying you're a misogynist.

Won't we just think about the poor menz!

@Transparent2 - agree, but they did used to have more style in common. I still buy the Observer!

The Guardian is actually stupid. The editorial style is so... simple. And despite all that stuff about CP Snow, mostly fact free!

Fluffymule · 06/02/2023 22:42

It's truly baffling that The Guardian are so obtuse that they put this out; truly suggesting they have no idea how many women feel the paper itself is now a hotbed of misogyny.

Do they not see the reams of criticism out there (for such a long time now), or do they just discount it all because it's coming from Women, who they seem to despise nowadays so their opinions don't count?

There's hundreds of twitter responses (mostly about chief woman hater OJ) but I hope a good fair few are actually using their feedback form to provide experiences as they request.

Muddays · 06/02/2023 22:43

Where's Hadley Freeman when you need her? She clearly got fed up with where the Gurning Owen swamp club was headed and broke away for clearer waters. Good for her.

ArabellaScott · 06/02/2023 22:45

They've convinced themselves that the people complaining are not women but complaining terfs and therefore beyond the pale and to be ignored. Our sex is meaningless to them; we are terfs, and therefore not fully human. (They know we're women, but won't admit it).

It's a bit like Nicla deciding Adam Bryson is 'rapist gender'.

Merlott · 06/02/2023 22:45

It is a glorious ratio indeed.

The reason I no longer buy the Guardian. Even the Telegraph is less offensive

I’m not a Tory (and I loathe both fox hunting and the Royal Family, which the Daily Telegraph supports), but I find The Guardian unbearable. I’ve actually started buying the Telegraph. My dad also read the DT, even though he was a Labour voter. I find it much more tolerant, surprisingly. Actually, I find moderate, middle of the road conservatives (not the free market nutcases) far more tolerant than the liberal-left. They are more willing to listen to their opponents, and more willing to change their minds.

I can't help but think wee OJ's got up someone's nose at the Guardian and they've gone rogue.

Mole is a genius.

Waxamole · 06/02/2023 23:15

This is the best twitter thread I’ve ever seen.

And as I understand it the ratio is likes/views, currently they’re at 229 likes with 582.1k views so a ratio of zero!

lechiffre55 · 06/02/2023 23:32

Are they running low on misogyny and hoping to stock back up?
I thought Owen Jones had a plastic ring on a string coming out of his back, and they just pulled it everytime they wanted some? Did they pull too hard and break the string?

tobee · 06/02/2023 23:56

ArabellaScott · 06/02/2023 22:16

Also even those of us who have had abortions and support access to abortion are anti abortion because Owen says so.

And all of us on the left are actually far right. Owen knows.

This!

The Guardian has, of course, been hacked recently. Think they're still dealing with it....

Blister · 07/02/2023 03:05

Oj and indy mansplaining misogyny and feminism 😂. how many words are going to be redefined to make this work 😂

Rainbowshit · 07/02/2023 05:25

Finally been blocked by Talcum X. Such a fragile man child. 🤭

BordoisAgain · 07/02/2023 07:24

The Communist party are now far right according to LOJ.

RoyalCorgi · 07/02/2023 10:22

There's something about the phrase "actual misogyny", isn't there? 'Cos those of us who are wimmin are too dim to tell the difference between "actual misogyny" and fake misogyny.

Putting rapists in women's jails isn't misogyny, forcing lesbians to consider male people as sexual partners isn't misogyny, throwing victims of domestic abuse out of support groups because they don't want to share a space with men isn't misogyny.

What is "actual misogyny", though? I expect all us daftie women will have to wait for OJ to explain to us. Those he hasn't blocked, anyway.

FriendofJoanne · 07/02/2023 11:01

I was about to post reply to OJ including dictionary definition - I’ve never posted on twitter before.l though so I’m reluctant to start.

Happy to see replies to him are giving him a grilling though!

I see Billy Bragg is now getting @ed - I dread to think what pearls of wisdom he’s brought to the table.

SqueakyDinosaur · 07/02/2023 11:30

Fully expect to be blocked by LOJ any minute, for asking him to clarify what he means. I even said please and thank you.

lifeturnsonadime · 07/02/2023 11:36

It's so ironic that most of us on here are blocked by these males. They have their heads so firmly shoved up their own arses that they can't see that THEY are performing misogyny.
