The Hogwarts Legacy reviews have dropped from major game review sites before release tomorrow and they are great:

Review ratings :
• PSU - 9.5
• IGN - 9
• JVCOM - 9
• Xbox Era - 9
• Power Up - 9
• Press Start - 9
• Well Played - 9
• Pushsquare - 8
• Gamerant - 4.5/5
• Screen Rant - 4.5/5
• VGC - 4/5
• Metacritic - 87

Typical review below is an example it has some of the usual anti JKR performative nonsense, but otherwise the review shows how good the game is and how close it ties into the magic of the books. :

The massive failure of the campaign against Hogwarts Legacy is another example of TRA self sabotage. The game itself is good and is going to do more massive sales now it is out, and the controversy helped give it great name recognition. Better than that it demonstrates that "transphobia" is a meaningless term which people increasingly ignore. It means that the gender fanatics attempt to control how people think is collapsing more and more.

Their latest TRA ploy is to call for a boycott of Twitch because it is showing Hogwarts Legacy adverts which again is going to fail and will further alienate people:
www.thegamer.com/hogwarts-legacy-twitch-ads-boycott/

What makes this all more sweet is JKR is benefitting massively from this because TRAs are so bigoted and can't tolerate dissent. This is nothing to do with helping anyone "trans" this is just about "moral" purity. It is even more blatant now it has been revealed there is a "trans" charater in the game as well as there being no rules about whether you are a witch or wizard. Yes turns out a JKR based game doesn't care whether people call themselves witches or wizards or how they dress exactly as JKR states:
"Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like."

Hogwarts Legacy "Trans" Character details
www.gamerevolution.com/news/934065-hogwarts-legacy-trans-character-transgender-sirona-ryan

Yes Hogwarts Legacy is more supportive of having an avatar which can gender non conform than most other games. Which makes sense because JKR doesn't care about that and the game reflects the universe she created.

The TRAs would never challenge the Call Of Duty franchise beloved by right wingers and where Activision the company behind it who have paid directly into Republican party coffers. No they only go after the game where a woman gets some of the profits, a woman who actively opposes the right and tried to stop Trump being elected in 2016.

If the TRAs hated the popularity of Hogwarts Legacy before it launched, they are really really going to hate how big it is going to be. They also can look forward Hogwarts {Rowling] Legacy 2 which their nonsense has helped make inevitable.

Criticism for the game includes the adding of a token trans character in response to JK Rowling's views. Which may appear to be a case of trying to say "look here's a trans character, that proves JK Rowling isn't transphobia".

The M to F trans-character's name is Sirona Ryan, a very masculine sounding name. Rowling has received criticism in the past for giving minority characters names such as Cho Chang and Shacklebolt. The actress who played Cho Chang in the movies received racist abuse as a result of the character's name.

"I'm told they added a token trans NPC to pivot the conversation away from JKR. They're barely in it."

"It's a "rushed, limited license game that people will realize isn't HP Skyrim.""

Ha ha the copium!

The BBC are still looking to finding their position on this. On The World at One on Radio 4, the summary of the controversy referred to JKR's statement about "policies related to transgender people".

Mollyollydolly · 10/02/2023 13:17

The BBC News at One on BBC1 just headlined it - the quote was something like 'JK Rowlings controversial views on Trans people.' I am now waiting with bated breath to hear those controversial views. Suspect I'll still be waiting when the Ten o'clock news goes out tonight. Get ready with those complaint forms.

Hope I'm wrong.

The views that are getting more and more mainstream every single day?

The BBC are still looking to finding their position on this. On The World at One on Radio 4, the summary of the controversy referred to JKR's statement about "policies related to transgender people".

Meanwhile over on Radio 2 Jeremy Vine had two guests to discuss it and, like Evan Davis on PM had decided that two transwomen, in agreement on JKR's 'transphobia' but at odds over whether to boycott the game or not, would provide the necessary BBC balance.

Fucksake.

In fairness, he did press the 'team boycott' TW on whether JKR challenging Isla Bryson's right to be in a women's prison is transphobic, but caved when the TW made the ridiculous counter-argument that gay rapists are incarcerated in male prisons. (Fucksake again.)

Several female™ callers displayed their #bekind credentials and distanced themselves from JKR while calling out the bullying, without any apparent awareness that bullying in transactivism is a feature not a bug.

Transphobic poster MargharitaPIE said:

“I still stand by my views this non-playable character (who barely appears) could have been implemented better.”

  1. How do you know the character “barely appears”? Have you played the game?

  2. Do enlighten us as to how this NPC could have been implemented better. I’d love to hear it.

I can say, as I am playing it right now and actually on one of Sirona’s quests, that this character is involved in a few different quest chains - probably as many as some of the teachers. Marg might want to actually give it a go first.

I’d also say too that Sirona is a perfectly likeable character. I’d be interested to know how else they could have been implemented too - I mean if she was more obviously trans that would have been transphobic, and if she was less obviously trans and more passing the developers wouldn’t have tried hard enough and that would be transphobic. What should they have done?

PauliString · 10/02/2023 13:26

Rowling has received criticism in the past for giving minority characters names such as Cho Chang

Well, the name is crap, but I was entertained by one of my kids telling me she should have googled it. I suspect that in 1998(?) she'd have been more likely to grab a range of names from the phone book or the Yellow Pages. Her publisher should have picked up on it, really.

Birdsweepsin · 10/02/2023 13:26

Oh the purity spiral strikes again!

I get the feeling lots of people who until now would have sided with the TRA gamers are now experiencing the bullying from the other end.

ReunitedThorns · 10/02/2023 13:48

TBH I don't know why developers bother with trans characters because they are always the most complained about characters because they never meet the high expectations of activists.

But they do have a point because some of them that I've come across are clearly written by people who have no idea. Someone referenced Cyberpunk and that featured a woman, who was clearly retconned to be trans, with recordings saying how her clothes won't fit after the operation.

Other games then have to go out of their way to get activist groups involved to change the depiction of a character post-release, and this can happen at the expense of immediate game-breaking bugs.

This HP character has been voiced by a trans actor, so shouldn't run into these problems, but seems like a lot of non-trans trans activists think they know best.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 10/02/2023 13:59

Ever the optimist but I’m starting to hope that the game, despite JK’s lack of direct involvement, is going to result in lots of new spring sunlight.

People aren’t just nodding along and accepting the ‘transphobia’ accusations anymore because the positive trans representation and the real life trans actor are completely incongruent with the ever-escalating, totally bonkers, ‘JK wants a trans genocide’ narrative.

Misstache · 10/02/2023 14:25

Since the transphobia bullying isn’t quite working, now they’ve moved onto “the series is founded in anti Semitism” and is “literally” Aryan philosophies, and “Rowling supports slavery.” Also, did you know that Rowling uses the money she makes to literally fund Trans conversion camps?

bringmethehorizontal · 10/02/2023 14:37

I'm playing it and really enjoying it so far!

The 1800s were apparently much more permissive, though. You can choose which dorm (M or F) to sleep in, which is rather creepy. I wonder what happened in the intervening years for girls to be given their own dorm away from boys, and with the added protection of a staircase that becomes a slide should a boy decide to violate their privacy?

ReunitedThorns · 10/02/2023 14:40

Oh dear, banned from another games site for stating that it was bizarre that a games website was trying to pretend that the game doesn't exist.

"review" from Wired. Has gone down well with gamers on Twitter. Or maybe not?

IMO she should ask for assistance when giving a name to a character who isn't cis, white and British.

She is sneaky isn’t she? Actually I think Mrs Weasley was really Mr Sweasley. Which means the Sweasley-Weasleys were a same sex couple all the time and no one knew.

lechiffre55 · 10/02/2023 17:49

Who is she supposed to ask for assistance? Talk about gatekeeping.
Absurdity is not an argument, it's comedy.

Rainbowshit · 10/02/2023 18:15

Why does Margarita think JKR had anything to do with the naming of the trans character?

nauticant · 10/02/2023 18:47

Because witchfinders tend to believe that JKR has special powers.

NotTerfNorCis · 10/02/2023 19:04

I just read that Wired review. Surely it's libelous? There's one bit about how JK doesn't want trans people to exist. Click on the link, and it's a tedious video of a Republican politician in American who quotes her. The quote? 'Women should be able to speak up for their rights without being threatened.' How is that questioning whether trans people should exist?
