Cant say I have heard of Radical Notion. They say:

THE RADICAL NOTION was founded in 2020 to create a space for the resurgent wave of feminist thinking and activism. This not-for-profit magazine is run by an all-women collective of radical and socialist feminists. We are committed to the materialist analysis of sex-based oppression, and to challenging the material and symbolic structures of male dominance. This moment is a historic opportunity to deepen and widen the analysis of all aspects of women’s political condition, and its foundational role in all systems of extraction and domination.

We welcome words and images from women of all nationalities, classes, ethnicities and backgrounds to illuminate the meaning of feminist politics in their lives, and to create a global picture of this political moment. Our current battle, and the social, political and environmental unravellings we see all around us are, at their root, crises of patriarchy. We want to seize this moment to speak that truth.

theradicalnotion.org/gender-critical-disputes/

It seems quite expensive to subscribe but they have made this issue free to read online. A lot of it seems to be the ongoing antagonism (meaning the issues are real but seem to be motivated as much by personal fallouts) between radical feminist and socialist feminist gender critical women.

Some may remember this thread www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4662757-womens-place-uk-filia-event-the-elephant-ignored-yet-again and the revelation that WPUK seems to now be linked to the group Actual Gender Critical Left, who endlessly snipe about Karin Dansky and KJK.

Anyhow posting in case anyone wants to have a read.

Still not sure why some women think in the day of virtual opportunites to talk directly to other women, they need to go down the routed of "publishing" as though their ideas are somehow special and shouldn't be submitted to the rough and tumble on online forums like this one!

As a matter of interest, why do they dislike WDI so much?

They think WDI has been fraternising with right-wing Christian fundamentalists. A journalist called Jayne Egerton wrote an article which was published in The Radical Notion accusing WoLF womensliberationfront.org
of involvement with far right groups. Ditto WDI, though I can't remember the precise

This thread from OP
www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4662757-womens-place-uk-filia-event-the-elephant-ignored-yet-again
will fill in some of the details. WPUK members are also members of the Actual Gender Critical Left which spends much of it times attacking KJK, Kara Danksy (WoLF) and WDI.

Forgive that messy and unproof-read response. I'm not drunk, I'm doing three things at once.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 06/02/2023 10:43

I think it was Helen Joyce who said (and I paraphrase), if you only want to work with left wing feminists, that’s fine, but there’s only a few hundred of them. You won’t get nearly as much done as you would if you worked with people that you agree with on some things and disagree with on others

it’s the difference between wanting to be right and wanting to win

WildIris · 06/02/2023 10:44

Thanks Patti.

EndlessTea · 06/02/2023 10:51

I'm sure everyone here can speculate why it might be that women on a forum called Mums net are seen as an uneducated, hard-of-thinking, quasi-bovine mass

😂

Nicola, in giving your fiver to KPSS you ran the risk of being called a right-winger, because according to someone who spoke from the floor of a WPUK meeting (and got a big round of applause) only right wing women have money spare to give to appeals and good causes. All decent socialist feminists (the only type of feminism allowed under WPUK rules) are too hard up to give a penny. The good news is that, having given all your spare money away, you are now officially skint enough to qualify as a proper socialist-feminist. So well done, you.

For cripes sake, don’t tell them it was only possible because I get carers allowance on a Monday (£69.70)! Wouldn’t want to disrupt their worldview!

Luckily I’m content to take up my place beside the other Domestic Zombies (and don’t have the space to hold rainwater in my butt anyway).

AlisonDonut · 06/02/2023 11:16

You cannot apply UK based Right and Left wing lens to American women trying to navigate the clearly heavily religious weighting that is absolutely underpinning ALL USA policies and politics.

You just can't. If they think you can then they are the thickos.

I'm ashamed to say I was one of the people mentioned in the first edition of this quarterly as I helped to get it off the ground. The fact that they are now trying to educate me to do better and to do Posie down because she speaks to women across the world and across the political divide is unbelieveably insulting and to be honest, they can shove it up their arse. Sideways. With fucking knobs on.

Don’t be ashamed - getting out in the early days of a purity spiral indicates you are a critical thinker & someone who isn’t willing to mindlessly go along with the crowd even if it costs you your friendship group.

It’s a good thing!

That the ReAl fEmInisTs feel compelled to mischaracterise left wing women who won’t nod along with their ludicrous, ever-increasing, puritanical demands & denouncements (often women with an easily proven track record of Trade Union/Labour party activism) as Friends of Farage is unfortunate, to say the least.

It’s all a bit too ‘Do it to Julia’ for my liking.

Happily, it seems that if you keep throwing women under the bus, eventually there will be enough women underneath that together they can lift the whole damn bus up over their heads and chuck it back in the direction from whence it came!

Floisme · 06/02/2023 11:57

I used to make up sneery comments about Farage too. Then he won. That taught me a lesson I am trying not to forget.

beastlyslumber · 06/02/2023 11:58

Good point, floisme.

Exactly. And Trump.

BloodAndFire · 06/02/2023 12:01

It's the first time I've read it. I thought it made some very important and troubling points. I'm on my mobile right now but will write a longer response later.

I'm Jewish and I am very uncomfortable with some of the bedfellows here who are racist, antisemitic, anti abortion and homophobic.

Fighting for the rights of girls and women is hugely important to me, but I'm not sure that teaming up with misogynists who want to take away our reproductive rights can ever be the answer.

Will write more later

NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom · 06/02/2023 12:04

Old Nige definitely had the last laugh.

(although I’m pretty sure the Brexit he got was not the Brexit he hoped to get)

It was a good demonstration of how a political party doesn’t have to be successful at parliamentary seat-winning to get their policies enacted.
The Greens have also been successful (but lost their way)
And the Women’s Equality Party? Dunno. Seems like it was a big ol’ waste of everyone’s time but maybe it did make a difference and I’ve not paid enough attention?

The thing is, ‘teaming up’ can do a lot of heavy lifting in some people’s fevered imagination

sometimes it can really mean ‘stood near in a park once’

beastlyslumber · 06/02/2023 12:14

@BloodAndFire Yes, do come back and bring the receipts with you for these accusations you're making.

I'll look forward to hearing that KJK was once in a field with some people who some other people thought were fascists but turned out not to be. And I think there's a screenshot somewhere of a tweet where KJK says something about her political priorities. I've only seen that 15 or 20 times.

You'll appreciate that these receipts have been thoroughly debunked multiple times so if you do have any actual evidence to support your claims, it will be most welcome.

And if not, your retraction and apology will be graciously received, I'm sure.

That’s my take on it.

The guilt-by-association tactic has become so potent that ‘association’ might not even have been close enough to set off a covid Bluetooth ping, let alone be actively teaming up/planning/working together!

Boiledbeetle · 06/02/2023 12:28

LiverpoolMuse · 06/02/2023 01:09

I’m a feminist, I support women’s rights, and social responsibility, I am not ‘left wing’ I am a centrist.
I actually get a bit fed up with smug ‘I’m left wing’ statements as if it makes that women morally superior.

I can't speak for anyone else, but that's not my intention. It's a statement of where I personally stand, usually, politically, in the face of constantly being accused of being a right wing bigot. I don't think right wing voters as a majority are bigoted mind, some like any group are, but I'm not right wing and will correct that assumption.

I mean i personally think I'm morally superior, but that's just because I'm a narcissist.

I honestly don't give a toss at this point what someone's politics are, because far right, far left, in the middle, the men in our spaces don't care we are just women.

And at this point I just wish that that fact would be enough to unite actual woman against actual men.

I'm sick of the purity spirals about the right sort of women.

Any woman who is xx not xy is the right sort of woman!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/02/2023 12:28

My money's on:
Lives in Brighton
Involved with WPUK and The Radical Notion

Look how quickly we've gone from 'teaming up' to being bedfellows with the far right religieuse. Four posts, was it? The fire alarm's gone off down in Brighton and Hove.

If Tesco thinks Every Little Helps its (multi-million) botttom line, then it definitely helps KPSS. Don't disparage your contribution, Nicola. You'll do the Brighton Set out of their favourite job

Disparage rhymes with farage, doesn't it? Can we follow the cow theme, with "forage", or is that perversion of the worst kind?

I don't know the origins of the digging thing, presumably to get round censure at some point.

But, every time I see talk about digging and veg I'm reminded of the story of the enormous turnip.

We are all helping pull out that turnip, and it's only once the tiny little mouse comes along that that little bit of extra help means they can pull the turnip out.

Then they all benefit and share the spoils of their gardening.

Your instinct has become very sharp since you made that WTF happened at Filia thread, Patti - it’s laser-like now!

I’m still in a Pollyanna land most of the time (although I am starting to get good at sniffing out the EDI Vampire).

I'm trying to read what you're commenting on but on "gender critical disputes" it just said "loading". Anyone got a screenshot?

ExiledElsie · 06/02/2023 12:51

There are some screenshots here. The bits I thought were nonsense are getting high praise on "actual gender critical left".
