Ah, I've rewound to the beginning. Sturgeon has refused to attend parliament today, according to Russell Findlay.

Hey didn’t Sturgeon say something comedic about Westminster undermining Scottish democracy a while back?

How is Scotland a bastion of democracy if its leader won’t answer to its Parliament?!

Boiledbeetle · 31/01/2023 15:25

so the takeaway from today for me

Basically telling people that the Bill you've just passed was literally to bring the law into line with all the shit they'd already been doing. I mean it honestly doesn't look as good as they seem to think it does

mrshoho · 31/01/2023 14:32

She's probably got a migraine from all that head bobbing and twitching yesterday

That made me laugh!

scratchedbymycat · 31/01/2023 15:25

That made me laugh!

It's so they can update the software.

It was starting to glitch yesterday.

nilsmousehammer · 31/01/2023 15:28

If the policy's fine and working fine and everything's fine (twitch) then wtf did Sturgeon block Bryson from the women's prison instead of say this is our policy, it's fine, we're happy with it and we're doing it? (Vote for us and for happy outcomes for sex offenders!)

If she's refused to attend parliament then the rumours she's gone full bunker would appear to have credence.

I think it's worth saying that 30 years ago the small number of genuinely dysmorphic men who used to be called 'transsexual' probably feel they have as much in common with these chancers as women do. Self-ID is harmful to all of us.

Unfortunately no one seems to give a shit about them either. Maybe more of a shit than they give about women, but not much more. In the same way that transmen are Trojan Horses, so are they.

It was the small number of transsexuals who pushed through the original GRA and first put transvestites and transsexuals together under the trans umbrella. Christine Burns, Stephen Whittle and Press for Change were responsible for this. These same people are now campaigning for self-ID. They're not innocent bystanders in all this.

Empowermenomore · 31/01/2023 15:28

I believe in SelfID! He keeps telling us!

i will be interested to know at what point does a man become a women? There must be an objective point in time when this miracle of life takes place.

Very much agree their hands are not clean. The evidence of who steered this, when, how and to what intent (in particular the intent to do it with as little democracy as possible and get it into law before people noticed and had time to resist) is very interesting if extremely depressing reading.

Hilarious and v good point

So, Brown said the policy was developed with the involvement of relevant stakeholders. Interestingly, a group of policy analyst’s (MurrayBlackburnMackenzie) did a freedom of information and found that only the Trance Alliance and stonewall were involved. They’ve got a cracking thread on Twitter on what SPS have been up to since 2007.

MiladeeBeserko · 31/01/2023 15:44

How the fuck can the goxvernment go on strike from parliament to support the strikes?

The Greens are part of the government ffs.

Also, stop giving away all the money to trans charities and pay the teachers!

Mynameisnotsteve · 31/01/2023 15:46

Do they not realise that it’s that “small” number becoming a bigger number that’s revealing the problem, even while that number is still small? And the further increase that will occur with self ID will just = bigger obvious problem.

This is what happens then parliament has no effective opposition and no second chamber.

Boiledbeetle · 31/01/2023 15:05

Missed R F bit what was that about

Something about CAB relied on info from someone to do with prison service who is also an snp politician- can this info be relied on?

WarriorN · 31/01/2023 15:47

Around 108 in the debate

WarriorN · 31/01/2023 15:48

Ah I see you saw!

WarriorN · 31/01/2023 15:49

Boiledbeetle · 31/01/2023 15:49

I rewound once they'd done

All in all was a shitshow

scratchedbymycat · 31/01/2023 16:03

Maggie Chapman, referring to the 'weaponising of these cases', by 'certain individuals'.

nilsmousehammer · 31/01/2023 16:04

Ah weaponising. Such a useful word, isn't it? Like dogwhistle.

Meaning 'shut up, what you're saying is devastating to my agenda'. And 'I'd rather not face the reality of what I'm enabling to happen to women'.

BlackForestCake · 31/01/2023 16:06

Sturgeon ran away rather than answer questions.

Chapman is so insane she doesn’t even run away.

Jellycatspyjamas · 31/01/2023 16:09

Of course they can talk about hate crimes in relation to trans women, but the same behaviour against women isn’t a hate crime, because they didn’t include misogyny in the hate crime bill.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 31/01/2023 16:09

Took me a bit of guddling about to find the start of the minister's speech - at about 14.30.

I have just read the MurrayBlackburnMackenzie thread on Twitter. CHILLING. The SPS policy was basically written by the Trans Alliance with NO women's groups consulted.

'Weaponising' rapists is really a fucking horrific concept, Maggie, shame on you.
