Elite sports people speaking up!

There seems to be an increasing number of sports people speaking up about the problem of males completing in women's sports which is positive. Thought it might be useful to have a thread of those who are risking sticking their heads above the parapet. Obviously the likes of Sharon Davies, Mara Yamauchi and Martina Navratilova have been bravely doing this for sometime but now we appear to have a few current athletes as well who are prepared to risk the mob to ensure women have fair competition. Is it too much to hope for that there will be a snowball effect?

Bagger said in 2022. “I still think there could be access for transitioned women to women’s sport… [but] I just don’t agree with the current, softened policies that are requiring less and less medical intervention of a male-bodied person entering women’s sport.”

Good spot.
So not really a U-turn. Basically, "trutrans like me should be in women's sports but not those guys over there who haven't put in the effort"?
What difference does it make, Mianne Bagger? You are all males with male athletic performance advantage.

Not impressed by that, or the hand-wringing after the fact. If Mianne Bagger was instrumental in getting the rules changed, MB ought to be working a bit harder to help women get fairness back.

Absolute wankers! Surely disciplining women for withdrawal isn’t legal because it’s a policy that disproportionately (currently only) affects female employees players?

They might be contravening their contract; I don't know. Either way, they need support.

Deta Hedman has said that we should expect an official statement about the forthcoming World Darts Europe cup stating that they will protect female category for the event.

Let’s see what is announced.

“40 men's teams 32 ladies teams attended the WDF Europe Cup , in general meeting a remit was passed that biological born women only for Women's section . Awaiting official announcement SexMattersOrg WomensRightsNet sharrond62 our trip to parliament got a mention, pressure pays.”

BellaAmorosa · 29/09/2024 17:36

That's great news. Assuming they don't get cold feet at the last minute. I hope it's a nice clear statement with no exceptions or hedging.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 29/09/2024 17:58

That's such good news. Another sport returning to equality and fairness for women.
Hope they go through with it and aren't leant on by the powerful trans lobby groups.

Helleofabore · 29/09/2024 18:02

I wonder if the announcement will only be for the competition and not on going for European competitions under WDF. I am keen to see what the announcement will be.

"In this "First Person" bonus episode, Megyn Kelly is joined by Brooke Slusser, San Jose State volleyball player who is suing the NCAA after finding out a biological male is on her team, to talk about how she ended up on the same women's volleyball team as a male player, how she was never told about him when she transferred to the school, being forced to live with and room with while traveling the male player, what it's like to play on the same team as a male athlete, the unfair physical advantages this player has, her decision to speak out about it and join a lawsuit against the NCAA, the reaction she's gotten from coaches and her teammates, her discussion with the biological male after she went public, the bravery of other schools refusing to play her school, getting death threats over her position, and more."

No, ECB, this is NOT complicated.

No males, whether they have been thru puberty or not.
And at all levels.

lcakethereforeIam · 17/10/2024 19:39

I started a thread about this, there's a Telegraph article which is, imo, much terfier.

British swimming guidelines is that boys can compete in girls categories “until puberty”.

although the last comp I went to had “girls” and “open” categories, even at age group level. So maybe they changed it. Will check.

Ooh they have https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/transgender-competition-policy-update/

last year.

British swimming are about as low as you can get on my list of organisations that treat athletes ethically and with respect. They seem to have got this one right at least, they can get back to bullying their swimmers for other things.

Swim England updates transgender and non-binary competition policy

Swim England has published its updated transgender and non-binary competition policy which aims to make all its sports fair and accessible to everyone.

That's great, isn't it?

Swim England commissioned an independent consultant to gather the views of more than 2,000 of its members, stakeholders and advocacy groups before drawing up the updated policy.
Whenever the sports governing body asks the athletes, common sense prevails.

duc748 · 18/10/2024 19:37

Which presumably is why most of them don't?

kiterunning · 21/10/2024 08:17

'Open' and 'female at birth' categories are the way forward for all sports.
Such a simple solution that guarantees inclusion and fairness.
I wonder if any record will be kept of the numbers of trans athletes competing but suspect the joy of competing will rapidly vanish into thin air without the podium experience.
