Seriously? Waterperry you are an Opera company. Soprano, Mezzo, Countertenor... we don't need pronouns.

And yet making so much of the pronouns. I'm sorry, I know you're just Being Kind and all, but you have just lost me as a customer. Peter Rabbit and Revolting Rhymes are shows for small children! I so want to support stuff like this but the pronouns just flags 'utterly captured'.

I read through the pronoun laden program last time I went to theatre and gave a little mental 'thank you' to each of the half dozen or so members of the cast and crew that had not given theirs.
It must take a bit of gumption to resist running with the herd.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/01/2023 10:22

Someone's put (Dream) after their name?

I expect the companies have trans people in them. Obviously, not in the cast. Though if Bryn Terfel wanted to sing Madame Butterfly what bigot could possibly be against him being his true authentic self!

whereaw · 30/01/2023 10:26

Thank God they added their pronouns, I would have really struggled otherwise.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/01/2023 10:31

The pronouns seem especially sad after the preamble to Carmen.

I find the performing arts is the worst when it comes to gender woo. As well as pronouns, gender neutral toilets (ie men in women's toilets Angry)

TangledWebOfDeception · 30/01/2023 10:43

JUST STOP! FGS I'm so, so tired of the nonsense.

But @IcakethereforeIam that really made me laugh. Very witty. And so very apt.

BordoisAgain · 30/01/2023 10:47

How does she / they work then?

She is a great actress, did you see they last performance?

Makes even less grammatical sense than "them/their"

TangledWebOfDeception · 30/01/2023 10:48

It works just like all the rest of the bollocks.

It doesn't.

WarriorN · 30/01/2023 10:49

The arts world full stop is completely riddled with this lunacy.

ethelredonagoodday · 30/01/2023 10:53

I go to the theatre fairly regularly and every time I see this, I can't help but just roll my eyes at it.

I was wondering about this too.

My cousin worked at a theatre recently in the offices. They really are so wrapped up in this stuff and the staff do not dare to do anything other than go along with it for fear of losing their job/standing in the organisation.

Brilliant 😂. They got the jokes out of the way really quickly.

Opera and theatre is a huge gay enclave I'm afraid you're on a losing wicket trying to change that. Female roles were played by boys in Shakespeare's time how weird would that have been.

People are going to have to rise up and say FUCK THIS SHIT at some point.

Seriously, you spend the vast majority of your life at work, stop playing along with toxic crap that demands you lie to yourself and to others! It isn't worth it!!

TangledWebOfDeception · 30/01/2023 11:05

(I know, I know - much easier said than done, sadly)

Are we ever going to get over the regressive notion that gay people are "really" the opposite sex?

What has being gay got to do with any of this?

Not weird at all, as it was a response to the law.

Oh, I’m long past that. No trans at work, none in my social group, none that I need to interact with.

Yes!

I've just read that Richard Madeley apologised for calling Sam Smith 'he'. Is IS a he! No matter how he 'identifies' or what stereotypes he rejects.

It's gaslighting, pure and simple gaslighting.

Sam Smith is a male.
Eddie Izzard is a male.
Emma Corrin is a female.

Have they stopped teaching this in Year 9 then? You sound very surprised. It's not really weird. It's a product of a patriarchal society. What does it have to do with the topic at hand?
