An urgent review is to take place. . The backlash must have been outstanding.

Good, about time too!

tobee · 29/01/2023 16:50

Yes coz all our worries were totally unfounded

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 29/01/2023 16:50

Good. It's about time.

However let’s hope it doesn’t stop the transfer of men OUT of women’s prisons. This should be done immediately. No debate

Please let's hope this isn't the last backlash that registers with those in positions of power in society. I am growing very worried about my grandchildren's future and hoping that the education system will have faced a similar backlash, forcing things to change in the near future. My daughter has no desire to home school but she can't see any other way forward unless things change.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 29/01/2023 16:54

Hmm - wonder whether all the other places where dodgy adults go out of their way to wedge male sex offenders in with women might start to review their dangerous policies? Now it's time to out the predators working for the NHS who are promoting sex offenders being given access to unwell women:

PronounssheRa · 29/01/2023 16:54

I hope any women harmed while this fucking stupid policy was in place sues them.

Same with any woman or girl harmed in hospital, mixed sex toilets, refuges etc etc

NewBootsAndRanty · 29/01/2023 16:55

"The review would consider any history of violence or sexual offending against women, and any associated risk they pose.

The spokesperson added: "Until the review is completed, any trans individuals, with a history of violence towards women, will only be admitted to the male estate, in segregation, when they first enter our care.

"This arrangement will be progressed in line with our human rights obligations.

"Finally, our ongoing policy review will be independently assessed by experts in women affected by trauma and violence."

Good.

That was my first thought. Some of our political class are so committed to prioritising men over women that you can't take a single thing they say at face value, slippery little fuckers.

PaterPower · 29/01/2023 16:56

I wouldn’t get too upbeat yet.

My bets are on a brief pause, followed by the claim that legal advice is that the men can’t have their feelz hurt / it’s discriminatory in some way.

Or they’ll do the same as they did for the GRR...

Claim they’ve done the most widespread and thorough consultation in the world EVAH (innit), without ever taking evidence from women, prison reform groups or anyone else who’d tell them it’s a fucking awful idea.

FOJN · 29/01/2023 16:58

For the love of god, they've probably have Mridul Wadwha on fucking speed dial.

mrshoho · 29/01/2023 16:58

Good 👍 about time. Hope the women involved sue the arse off these institutions.

Helleofabore · 29/01/2023 16:59

"Finally, our ongoing policy review will be independently assessed by experts in women affected by trauma and violence."

And I will believe that when we see it. I presume ‘experts’ will be selected by those groups with heavily invested interests.

timetorefresh · 29/01/2023 17:00

Hmm would be nice to think the rights of the woman women would outweigh the rights of the rapists etc, but men do seem to be the priority. Feelings first!

when they say, "...trans individuals, with a history of violence towards women, will only be admitted to the male estate, in segregation, when they first enter our care...", is that a tacit admission that to date at least some rapists have just been unthinkingly chucked straight into the female estate, presumably with a female cell mate and so on? surely they can't be admitting that so readily?

Sunnava · 29/01/2023 17:01

I am uneasy about their wording — history of sex crimes against women; history of violence against women — even by their own standards it should be ANY history of sexual violence or violence, including against other males or children (although I believe NO males in female persons ever).

Oxonresident · 29/01/2023 17:03

Have had a few too many glasses of wine with dinner today, so am slightly incoherent - but the alcohol does bring out the best in me. I am fucking fuming that we have got to this stage. The prison service is having an urgent review NOW?! What about 20 years ago when this all started? Oh, I know why - it didn't affect any politician's chances of being elected then. Women in prison weren't of any use politically, prison warders weren't of any use politically, prison governors weren't of any use politically. But TW were. So give them what they want, be kind and let them have access to any prey they want. Now, the TW's are affecting the politicians adversely and something MUST BE DONE. I have no articulate words for this bloody shit show. Others on here are able to debate it much better than me. But I just want to add my sheer rage to the cauldron. Maybe the white hot heat of all our rage will eventually burn this idiocy from this world.

Bonbon21 · 29/01/2023 17:04

It would seem, based on the wording, that this will refer to FUTURE inmates.... not the ones already serving sentences..??

Shelefttheweb · 29/01/2023 17:05

Finally, our ongoing policy review will be independently assessed by experts in women affected by trauma and violence.

Have they provided a definition of who ‘women affected by trauma and violence’ are? The special penis-owning kind?

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 29/01/2023 17:06

The ore daylight on this appalling state of affairs the better. Lets hope this time they take the views of (real) women into account.

I am sure engender, women’s aid and RCC are lining up...

ArabellaScott · 29/01/2023 17:08

What about the ones already in there?

ditalini · 29/01/2023 17:09

This is wholly missing the point - all males have the potential to be a risk to women. This is particularly relevant in a custodial situation where the female prisoners can't get away from males.

We can't tell who is a bad yin - if we could then we could have mixed prisons for the nice people and then the one for bad yins.
