I have nominated Sharron Davis. without women like her campaigning to keep womens sport for natal women then a Women in Sport Power List is pointless.

Details are on the Woman’s Hour website. Nominations are accepted until February 8th. There is a space to explain the reasons for your nominations. And to have a little dig at Kelly Holmes though that might be just me.

Voting for Sharron too!

GrimDamnFanjo · 26/01/2023 11:28

Martina?

MagpiePi · 26/01/2023 11:43

Also Amelia Strickler...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/64396740

British shot putter Amelia Strickler says plans by World Athletics to allow transgender women to continue to compete in female international track and field events "would leave women at a serious disadvantage".

faffadoodledo · 26/01/2023 11:46

Mara Yamauchi is another outspoken name.
But agree with all the others listed here too.

Shelefttheweb · 26/01/2023 11:55

I saw the thread title and my heart sank. Good to know I wasn’t correct (yet)

viques · 26/01/2023 11:56

I had not heard of Amelia before, but she sounds great. And brave to speak out as a current athlete.

I see wimpy Daly got a moan in in that article 🙂 he does come across as an unpleasant man, I used to really admire him because he had a lot to put up with as a teen, bullying, his dads death, but now he is a whinger. Good to see a couple of other current male athletes stepping up to the plate and supporting women only sports , I wish there were more, they have nothing to lose from transwomen competing in open mens events, unlike current women athletes who stand to lose support and sponsorship as well as their team and training places if transwomen are allowed to compete in moments events.

What category did you nominate her under? Want to support her.

viques · 26/01/2023 14:46

I nominated her under “other” I think, I couldn’t decide since she fitted so many of the other categories.

Is anyone going to this? Would really hope some of us could be there if Sharron Davis might win.

riskybiznisses · 28/03/2023 10:16

Is this the list on Radio 4 now? (Tuesday 28th at 10.15?)

WinterTrees · 28/03/2023 10:20

Yes, on now.

WarriorN · 28/03/2023 10:21

I've missed a lot of it; how is it shaping up?

Rather amazed by the 100 k open water swimming group!

WinterTrees · 28/03/2023 10:30

They're doing a count down of the list, mostly just reading out names and why they've been placed (a lot of community/grassroots leaders - excellent) but stopping every now and then to do an in-depth interview. The woman from the Blue Tits swimming group has just had a long slot, and was very cheery and inspiring.

Top ten now, so more well known names. Fingers crossed for Sharron Davies...

WarriorN · 28/03/2023 10:39

Heard her, loved the idea of the blue tits!

WarriorN · 28/03/2023 10:43

Ellie and Alice could have easily been 1st tbh

WarriorN · 28/03/2023 10:44

Oh Sue too!

WarriorN · 28/03/2023 10:45

Awww Leah!

WinterTrees · 28/03/2023 10:45

WTF. She wasn't even listed. Anywhere.

BornInSin · 28/03/2023 10:46

Sharron not in top 30. Shocking!

WinterTrees · 28/03/2023 10:47

A really worthy winner, obviously, and many, many inspiring and brilliant women, working tirelessly for women to participate, enjoy and benefit from sport. But I thought the shortlist was entirely complied by public vote?

I think the public made the nominations, but it was a panel that picked the top 30.

The winners will be decided by a panel of successful women in sport - Jessica Creighton, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Ebony Rainford-Brent and Sam Quek - and will be announced on air on 28 March.

WarriorN · 28/03/2023 10:54

I think that's a brill list; channelling actual women in women's sports at grassroots levels too.

Women's football doing so well will have an exceptionally huge impact on those young women who want to play football.

My son has female and male player posters on his walls.

This will impact girls who don't feel they fit in thanks to sexism - it all adds to playing against the tide of the trans trend.

Female football teams are using menstrual data to fine tune training to their cycle and winning as a result too. All v clear on biology.

I'm still on a high from Sharron on WH last week tbh Grin

That was better than an award!
