I've complained to the ASA.

For everyone spending 10 minutes writing a diatribe on here, spend another five minutes making an effective complaint:

www.asa.org.uk/make-a-complaint.html

Simple online form that gives you plenty of space to have your say.

“Fabulous message Booblessbeauty.“

Hmmm. I don’t know. I don’t consider myself hideous or disfigured after my cancer treatment. It is what it is, nothing to feel ashamed of.

I'm reminded of the outrage about the noose hoodie, or the latest givenchy necklace, that's a noose. High fashion loves to be edgy. But it often misses the point. Nooses=lynchings for a large part of human history and aren't an appropriate fashion accessory.

The same can be said for this campaign. This is slightly more nuanced though, because of you're anti it, you can be called a bigot.

But I'm guessing for the marketing team and the brand as long as people are talking about it, they're winning, no matter the distress or offence caused to anyone.

pattihews · 26/01/2023 14:27

I'm almost as traumatised by the suedehead haircut as the mastectomy. The skinheads were racist thugs.

weebarra · 26/01/2023 14:46

mrsskylerwhite - no, I know what you mean but I'd still prefer to have my breasts.
I certainly wouldn't recommend a bilateral mastectomy as a fashion choice. For us, it was lose the boobs or die.
I've come to terms with my new body and have a gorgeous tattoo over my scars.

melonraspberry · 26/01/2023 14:51

@Booblessbeauty I’ve also had a mastectomy and find the message it’s not a big deal affronting. I’m sorry you’ve had such bad after effects. My implant is crap and rests on a muscle so aches and one day I will get rid and go flat, but apart from that I’ve been lucky as I have no pain and no restriction of movement, just wanted to add that in case anyone reading is due to have this op (for cancer ). The idea this operation is something to be celebrated is pretty awful.

melonraspberry · 26/01/2023 14:53

@weebarra wheni go flat I’m thinking of getting a tattoo also.

I don’t mind being flat, but yes it’s absolutely not a lifestyle choice, it was this or possibly lose my life.

Davros · 26/01/2023 14:56

Another effect of mastectomy, most surgery in fact, is that the area will be numb for a long time and sometimes forever. It's horrible.
I was offered a cosmetic mastectomy on the NHS because I'd had one breast removed due to cancer and did not opt for reconstruction. However, I was then so unbalanced and only comfortable one side or the other, I was offered another mastectomy. I decided against. Also, my scar on the one that was removed, does not look like the ones you see in "top surgery" promotion. It is not flat at all which I don't care about, but it probably wouldn't meet the fantasies of the sex changers

Why would anyone complain. It's just scar tissue. And as a female who has had similar surgery I like to see it normalised. It's nothing to be ashamed of!

Not clear what you mean.

Similar surgery due to cancer or other conditions?

Breasts removed due to being trans?

I think context is needed here.

A pity after the rather marvellous and very masculine Hero ad with Adam Driver, where he morphs with the horse to become a centaur

InsteadOfKibble · 27/01/2023 06:22

This crosses a line😡
How the hell can people excuse and justify this? It's the hight of manipulative and abusive marketing. It's too early to write anything more articulate but the ad is below the belt and so voyeuristic in nature. Most of us won't be able to boycott Burberry but I hope that some celebrities will. FFS. This is sick 😢

It’s normalising a serious mental health issue. It’s akin to using a severely anorexic model. There is no difference

the one significant difference being it is possible for a girl to recover from attempt to emulate an anorexic model.....
