India Willoughby: I am more of a woman than JK Rowling will ever be

India has stated this on Twitter.

Doesn't it tell us a lot about how genderism rests on social stereotypes? How is India 'more of a woman' than someone born female?

Lynn Flufferbrain (or whatever), I'd literally never heard of her.

GnomeDePlume · 23/01/2023 13:26

Sorry, phone posted too soon

Like my handbag my cervix is purely functional. Not designer.

Is this where I am going wrong?

LaughingPriest · 23/01/2023 13:27

If being a woman means having a certain type of personality, then I'm even more convinced than ever that that belief is wrong. It excludes so many people on indefinable metrics. It's cruel and impractical.

Why not say that a woman is a female of any personality, rather than a person of either sex with a specific type of personality (which is also never actually specified)? That would enable us to make coherent laws and policies about the risk of women from men.

At least attempting to throw together a bunch of adjectives as a way to define what a woman is is more than most trans people have ever bothered to do. RMW did a whole column on what a woman is but still couldn't manage an answer.

"I am A REAL WOMAN!!!"

DialSquare · 23/01/2023 13:29

I love JKR's response!

Is that how #bekind 'inclusivity' works these days, then? By trying to identify yourself inappropriately into a group and then deliberately trying to exclude those who are already (and rightfully) in it?

This is a bit like a video clip I saw of a trans woman who said that trans women's "vaginas" are superior to women's vaginas because theirs have been paid for and are basically designer. I don't understand why these people say such things.

Yeah, of course

There was a time when I'd have said that stepping quietly away was the best solution to this kind of thing. But it's indulging male people with soothing 'yes yes of course' to be kind and accept their difficulties that led to a group of paid parliamentary representatives standing smiling under banners threatening death and rape to anyone who interrupts the reality of male people with TQ+ chosen identities. The sense of entitlement to uninterrupted pretense and indulgence in pretence has inflated to the point of the leader of the Scots parliament denying the reality of impact on women including the facts of rape and assault.

And this state of horror was caused by being 'kind' to statement exactly like this.

So I'm afraid the time has come to say firmly no. A male is not a woman, and never will be. A male may be a transwoman and out transwomen all other transwomen and good luck to them with that, but this is male entitlement and misogyny gone off the scale and I will not be enabling it any further.

donquixotedelamancha · 23/01/2023 13:39

She’s just saying stupid stuff to try to engage JKR.

This. People like this are paid according to how much attention they generate. Just don't engage.

Florissant · 23/01/2023 13:39

Oh, dear. India, when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

Yeahrightthen · 23/01/2023 13:43

I guess when they keep repeating something they start to believe it? Self-affirmation or something. It's just meaningless twaddle isn't it?

Even if I looked in the mirror every day and said "you are a thin, pert-titted, rich, successful, independent woman" it still wouldn't work for me as I don't have the level of cognitive dissonance required to kid myself. I can see my sagging breasts, ageing face and chub rolls. I guess people like India are able to lie to themselves? Or at least pretend they can and hope others fall for it too.

The only thing I know is the fact that I AM a woman - I know that coz I have a proper vagina (not just a hole gouged out of my inverted penis) that has birthed 3 children and a cervix/ovaries.

I would like to know how/why India thinks they are more of a woman than...well, an actual woman. Does India apply their makeup in a superior way or have more typically feminine dress sense? I'd be interested to hear the explanation for this, but I doubt one will be forthcoming.

I vaguely remember catching a bit of an old Naked Attraction and one of the six people in the coloured boxes turned out to be Lauren Harries. Upon being eliminated by the date 'picker', Lauren threw a huge tantrum, shrieking that he would "never get any of this candy!". I can't remember who the other five contestants were - iirc, the picker was a (natal) man who identified as 'pansexual' or something, so he wasn't your ordinary 'boring' straight man just looking to date an ordinary 'boring' woman - but at least some of them were (natal) women.

I honestly think that some transwomen genuinely believe they have something very special - and thus far superior - to offer in their 'woman' package than an actual woman ever could. But there's no delusion at all....

LynneBenfield · 23/01/2023 13:45

How JKR keeps her head in all this, I’ll never know. Such relentless goady fuckery.

I don’t know if anyone has read her latest Robert Galbraith novel but I think she exorcised a few demons there.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 23/01/2023 13:45

My DSs best friend (who currently identifies as a trans boy) is more of an woman than India will ever be.

It's never a desire to join; it is always a desire to replace. To conquer.

I'm not wearing a dress but I am menstruating. What am I?

I'm wearing a dress and not menstruating. So I'm your opposite. Together do we make a man and a woman?

JamSandle · 23/01/2023 13:49

That’s really cheered me up. I was feeling a bit down because of not getting out for a walk this weekend.

‘More of a woman’ TRA la la la ‘ More of a woman to me he he’ as the Bee Gees might have sung.
