Canada: TW in a female only gym

I was particularly interested in this comment:

"She says she has previously worked out at co-ed gyms and never felt comfortable because it was mostly men in the facilities."

And yet STILL has no sympathy with natal women who don't feel comfortable with men there! The hypocrisy is staggering.

Very pleased to see a man, Dale Nagra, the owner of Bodyworks Fitness, sticking up for natal females.

“We want [trans] to be comfortable, but we also have to worry about the young girls that this gym is set up for and the women, and how are their parents gonna feel that they’re in there, then this person walks in with a male voice and big person,” Nagra said.

“So now you pick the comfort of the male who identifies as a woman…and then anybody can go in there saying, ‘OK, I identify as a woman, and I want to be able to go in there.’

And so, do we pick the comfort of the transgender person, and they may not be as comfortable with the co-ed gym but at least that’s an alternative, or do we pick the comfort of the young girls that are working out there that might not feel comfortable?”

I watched the video and this individual really does not seem mentally well and speaks in a very automaton manner, like repeating something you've memorized but don't understand. I think we can have compassion for that but acknowledge his behavior is bullying and entitled. Maybe that's where the "most vulnerable" mindset comes in because this person does not seem like a competent adult. At all.

Plenty of transwomen acknowledge their differences from women. I'm sure they don't want Brigid as a spokesperson.

PriOn1 · 19/01/2023 20:44

I was rolling my eyes at “But all it takes is education.” That’s not education, it’s indoctrination.

And this:

Klyne-Simpson says she has reached out to the BC Human Rights Commissioner and Alberni Valley Pride about the issue and hopes to find a solution.

Great. The gym already offers a solution, which is the provision of mixed sex changing rooms in addition to male and female. What alternative solution is even possible, unless part of the gym is closed off for personal use? This isn’t a search for a solution, it’s an attempt to dominate.

PriOn1 · 19/01/2023 20:50

I’ve also felt uncomfortable in gyms because I’m overweight and unfit. That’s a normal experience.

I ended up going in the early hours, which seemed to be when a small number of FtM transitioners and older women exercised. Somehow, despite all of us being more physically vulnerable than this joker, we all managed.

He could start by picking up a hairbrush.

TheMatriarchy · 19/01/2023 21:36

The whole thing could be a convoluted plot to perve (or worse) on naked women and girls. Frankly I find that more plausible of a human male than the idea his sex has changed.

Yup.

And women can be such mugs. Pitying men like this. Pity yourselves.

Hoardasurass · 19/01/2023 23:48

I'm wondering about these two UCLA studies quoted that claim that women are just as safe in mixed sex spaces as single sex spaces and just how they define single sex spaces and what their evidence base is because the last set of UK data I saw said we were 80% more likely to be assaulted in mixed sex spaces than single sex spaces 🤔

That's precisely what it is.

He's the acronym that dare not speak its name (on here).

Does "she" have a penis? Or is she post-op -- that would be my question and qualifier. Next we'll have people self-identifying as three-year-olds and wanting to go to daycare. Where does this stupidity end.

Abccde · 20/01/2023 08:00

That person will be using the womans only gym soon.

Evil and predatory. I don't think there is any other way to describe it.

He even states its for validation.

All the women should refuse to go to that session if the TW is there. The TW must know that their presence is unwanted and making people uncomfortable, but they push ahead anyway.

Why don’t they try inserting themselves elsewhere? Perhaps in a religious institution of a religion they don’t belong to? Maybe a school? No, of course not. It’s only women who aren’t allowed to define themselves and have anything for themselves.

The TW should go to a mixed session. They can then ‘be a woman’ but not impinge on others’ rights to a single sex group. Unless of course it’s all about the validation….

The problem is then that they'll still be seen as bigoted. I remember reading about a school were the girls were told if they weren't comfortable with the 'trans-girl' sharing the gym changing room they were the ones to move elsewhere, not the male, the whole group did and got changed in the toilets, and subsequently were disciplined for not being inclusive and this was bullying!

NecessaryScene · 20/01/2023 08:26

The problem is that people are accepting the trans movement at their word.

They say if you feel "more comfortable" in a female space, that's where you belong, and people should accept that.

And, obviously, a huge number of men (myself included) would feel more comfortable in an otherwise-female space. Women are much less intimidating than other men, even aside from just more interesting if you're a heterosexual male.

This reminds me of that Merager(?) Wi Spa guy - he's just complying with the rules he's presented with, quite literally.

And why shouldn't he? This isn't a "loophole" or anything - the rules are clearly explicitly permitting any man who wants to go in to go in, so to not do so would be like not claiming a tax rebate you're entitled to. A sucker move.

There's a sort of weird disconnect where somehow the people making the rules think there is some sort of "social etiquette" where obviously someone who isn't "trans" wouldn't claim to be - they've got this whole complex "identity" mythology in their heads that they can't really explain, but they know it's supposed to be a real thing.

But at ground level, it's a very simple, "so I can just use women's spaces now is I say I'm a woman? All right, cheers, don't mind if I do".

Obviously only men who don't care about women would do this, but it's not as if there's a shortage of them.

It's not for you to decide that males can come into women's spaces just because they have allowed someone to remove their penis. This person looks entirely like a male. I don't care what's in this person's pants. They're not a woman. They're a transwoman. The women's space is for actual women, not transwomen (AKA males).

Buffypaws · 20/01/2023 08:45

This man is so vile and so very male in his entitlement and disregard of the feelings of women.

Abccde · 20/01/2023 09:17

The more woman push back the more these entitled morons are going to do things like this. They are going to try and force their way into more and more woman only spaces.

This is going to give it visibility and will mean that more and more people will realise what is going on.

The devastating this is - there are going to be so many woman victims until we get back to woman only spaces being respected.

Abccde · 20/01/2023 09:33

I want an answer from politicians - should this person be accessing female only changing rooms and woman only spaces.

The law as it stands make it difficult for service providers to exclude this person.

So legally yes, they can use the space.

But morally? I want the moral answer.

IcakethereforeIam · 20/01/2023 09:42

Yes, ask the politicians would they want this person changing and showering with their wives and daughters. Emma Watson, would you change in a roof with this person, Nicole Sturgeon, Maggie Chapman (aka Moggie Purrspees), Mhairi Black, Nadia Whittome, Stella Creasy, Shona Robison, Caroline Nokes, Kier Starmer, your wife? Well?

Signalbox · 20/01/2023 10:27

This man is using the same tactics as Yanniv isn't he? Targeting a women's service as an obvious male person and then threatening to sue when they are turned away. I feel so sorry for the owner of the gym. Wtf are service providers supposed to do in these cases?

334bu · 20/01/2023 10:37

Wonder why the reporter is crouching down to interview this person who is seated? Why are they not both standing? Is this a deliberate move to minimise how physically intimidating this person is?

I think he’s be a lot happier doing Dungeons and Dragons or doing medieval reenactments or something like that.

I'm a 42 year old woman who plays Dungeons and Dragons. My 21yo daughter also plays D&D and does LARP. The most popular D&D stream on Twitch has three players who are women in their 30s/40s. What does playing D&D have to do with gender?

Yes, agree. Self entitled MAN.

Wtf does that mean?

I play DnD. Both my kids play DnD. They've set up a wee group with their friends and run a campaign.
They also paint warhammer. You got a problem with that?

nilsmousehammer · 20/01/2023 11:06

In essence:

"I want the very, very unique and special experience of being in an entirely female environment because that experience is a unique and important one, it matters to me, and a mixed sex space doesn't provide it.

And I'm perfectly happy to remove that important experience from every single female in the place because that experience doesn't matter for them, only for me. And if it means that some females now can't use that space or any space at all because of me, and are excluded from any access at all so I have my preferred choice of my three available accessible options? Well they don't matter and I do."

It's toddler thinking. And it would not be acceptable in a toddler.

I think the point is that this is a confusion of absorbing role play and online identities and world building moving into a concrete world and expecting others to enable it. There's nothing wrong with D&D playing or with LARPing, cosplay and so on. There is a problem when you try to take that into reality and force other people to enable you in it.

Ah, it makes sense when you put it like that. Quite right. Sorry @Thesonglastslonger I guess I missed your point.
