Keir Starmer sides with Nicola Sturgeon on gender law

It looks to me like he's either changed his mind, or is playing fast and lose with what the word "sex" means.
I'm guessing that Starmer believes people can change sex. So single sex spaces and attraction are not affected because you can identify as whatever sex you want.

Coconuts grow high up in trees.
So what? Humans aren't fish, planets, mushrooms or jellyfish.
Fish breath underwater, can you?

😬at pp segue into fish on here. Desperate times

Human beings aren't fish.

Already been done.

I suggest having a look at animal classification. There are some quite good explanations for schoolchildren

The post I was replying to didn't specify mammals.

It could be worked out, of course. Marsha said "you can't change sex," which obviously refers to humans and not clownfish. Are you a clownfish?

And your point is what?

SinnerBoy · 19/01/2023 15:24

Muddying the waters with yet another irrelevancy?

Boiledbeetle · 19/01/2023 15:25

I mean If a school of cod has joined the Labour party then fair enough, oh and suddenly fish can vote!

yourhairiswinterfire · 19/01/2023 15:28

The post I was replying to didn't specify mammals.

So you read the OP that mentions single sex spaces and the person's post you responded to that said 'you can't change sex and males shouldn't be in single sex spaces' and you thought ''oh, they must be referring to all those fish trying to access women only spaces''?

Confused
PizzaNinja · 19/01/2023 15:32

While we’re on fish, isn’t it about time they got the right to vote? You know, universal suffrage innit 🤷‍♀️

Britinme · 19/01/2023 15:35

And if fish got the right to vote they might eventually identify as humans and then we'd have to figure out a way to let them into human-only spaces. I guess we'd all have to be kind and all the humans would have to go around wearing scuba equipment because obviously we wouldn't want the poor fish to be unable to breathe when we could just make this small accommodation.

lechiffre55 · 19/01/2023 15:35

Fish in women's single sex spaces next.
"I identify as a fish that can breath out of water"

Shark here, I've been secretly voting for years.

And you never noticed nah nah na Nah na

Yeahrightthen · 19/01/2023 14:52

Mr Wishy-washy as per usual.

He’s a coward - labour will never get my vote with this spineless git at the helm that’s for sure.

This with bells on

DialSquare · 19/01/2023 15:46

Silverfish are Fish!

SinnerBoy · 19/01/2023 15:48

Six legged wingless fish...

caringcarer · 19/01/2023 15:50

This could lose him the election. I won't vote for any person who does not know what a woman is or allows men into female spaces or sports events.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 19/01/2023 15:50

Lol the bat signal went out early on this one!

This is the same line he’s been fudging from day 1 on this

He’s a lawyer & he knows that the EA doesn’t confer automatic rights of admission to single sex spaces even with a GRC - he knows this!

as always he’s hoping no journalist will know the law and so be able to challenge him

lets see how much he holds his “I agree with NS line” in 2 years time when there’s an election

2bazookas · 19/01/2023 16:12

He imagines that supporting GRA will get Labour support in Scotland, too dim to realise how hugely unpopular GRA is among Scottish voters.

Madamecastafiore · 19/01/2023 16:38

He's likes to say how dreadful the Torie's maths is yet tries to appease less than 1% of the population over the 51% 🤷🏻‍♀️.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 19/01/2023 16:49

lechiffre55 · 19/01/2023 14:51

"He admitted single-sex groups would not be allowed to refuse entry to anyone with a gender recognition certificate, but said this was already the case."

Which is a lie. We can and do deny access to men with a GRC.

TheClogLady · 19/01/2023 16:56

Whenever someone brings up fish in relation to Women’s Rights, it always reminds me of Angelina Jolie in Shark Tale.

I won’t be voting Labour in the next GE, I’ll spoil my ballot.

Musomama1 · 19/01/2023 17:00

I'm shocked at how Labour MPs have treated women's rights in this debate and it doesn't fill me with confidence once the Labour party is in.

Do we need a change? Yes, but Labour won't be any better Meanwhile women's rights and sensible debate becomes dismissed as transphobic.

I don't get it. The GRR reform is clearly so unpopular to the average Joe. If Labour MPs are behind even this then how will any change happen anytime soon?

Floisme · 19/01/2023 17:01

I think it's factions within his own party that he's trying to appease rather than the electorate. He might be the leader but he doesn't look like he's in control unfortunately.
