I recommend the book 'why does he do that' by Lundy Bancroft: a specialist in the treatment of abusive men. Bancroft has a lot of very interesting observations as to the double standards he almost invariably observes in what a male abuser expects and feels entitled to and interprets for himself, and the generosity of interpretation, and the very much lesser crumbs that he feels are fit for others.

I was making a general comment about how complaints against women are nearly always followed up even if only one complainant, but when a lot of women make a complaint against an institution or a man, more often nothing happens.
