Continuation of Thread 1

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Just before you all pack your knitting needles, can I remind you that you may be sitting next to Tom Daley wielding his own needles in a wonderful example of virtue signalling (virtue knitting?)

WeBuiltTwoCitiesOnSexistRoles is the closest I can get in the Defarge NC competition <obviously will be disqualified for being shit at it> I may change to WeBuiltCisCityOnBrainwashedProles which is tenuously on topic as well as being true

Great Twitter link on the first page of that colonialism thread. As pointed out, it approaches Q-Anon levels of idiocy.
Bint appears to have done a great categorising job! 😀but I suspect the biggest factor for Labour pols is cowardice. Just not prepared to stick their heads above the parapet.

Winterborne74 · 22/01/2023 13:35

Just not prepared to stick their heads above the parapet.

Suspect it’s ruthless pragmatism. When they look at the electoral calculus there is more to lose by backing a horse than by continuing to fudge. All out war in the Labour Party would be a distraction from the single objective of gaining power. I’m not sure principles come into it at this stage.

I think also there are a lot of men who cannot, cannot imagine women as fully actualised people with real lives and views. A lot of them consider themselves progressive and would be massively offended if you said that you to them. But something shuts down in their brain when they hear women speaking. This is a way to use that aggression while remaining "good".

Kucinghitam · 22/01/2023 13:42

Not just men, women too.

And I used to find it really funny how offended they were when I then translated their scoldings into naked language: "partially-sentient support bipeds."

ExiledElsie · 22/01/2023 13:50

I'm probably weird. But I doubt I'm unique. I wonder if other people don't have or recognise this division. Or who do trust their guts more than I do. If that might account for behaviour or beliefs which seem really strange to me?

I think that's how human brains work. It's why we do stuff/say things while our inner voice is saying "wtf? Don't say that!"

Steve Peters talks about it in The Chimp Paradox, so instinctive responses happen first.

I think you were saying people have overridden their instinctive knowledge that people can't change sex with learned "rational" knowledge that they can. Is that it?

Sonia Sodha in the NotGuardian.

I looked at the Guardian, to see if they had any articles about the MPs at the rally, with the vile, threatening placards, but couldn't find any. Still, at least they are now publishing articles, which are not simply hagiographies of trans people.

Though usually (as in this case) in the Observer rather than Graun. Same app, same website, different editorial stance. It was a minor pity that although Sonia Sodha mentioned the Wi Spa incident (and linked to it) the words Wi Spa didn’t appear in her article so presumably her piece wouldn’t come in a search of the website.

SinnerBoy · 22/01/2023 14:20

Well, I was looking for the Glasgow protest, which I couldn't find.

StephanieSuperpowers · 22/01/2023 14:22

It was a bit unseemly by some of the chaps but not worth mentioning.

BinturongDefarge · 22/01/2023 14:32

If someone is wondering whether they might be trans and searches for more information, apparently Google serves up this helpful quiz:

twitter.com/ejrosetta/status/1616450578124791812?

MadameDefargeinme · 22/01/2023 15:24

That is bizarre! I went through the quiz and answered (truthfully) that I was female, wanted to date males, had no problems with my body as it is, was neutral on clothes (I rarely wear skirts or dresses but don't have a problem doing so). It said I was mostly along the spectrum towards transsexual.

So woohoo I'm under the trans umbrella.

I'm a transexual.

That is one seriously fucked up test

the options to each question are very "You what now? Those are my options?"

Fucking hell that's a weird quiz (and apparently written by an Internet-addled 11-year old, in Klingon, google-translated into Huttese and finally to English).

Boiledbeetlelovesbeautifullybindedbundles · 22/01/2023 17:40

In honour of my new transsexual status I've changed name to something more fitting.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/01/2023 17:56

Perhaps the 'logic' of the test is that anyone who completes all the silly questions is someone who wants to be told they're trans.

Meanwhile, I've just been listening to Fridays episode of the News Quiz - glad that Helen Lewis was on it.

angelico53 · 22/01/2023 18:11

I liked the q where one of the answers was "neither" from a 5 option MCQ.

But yes! I'm happy to report that I too am transexual.

Yay! We should have a coming out party. It

They are gong to be so pissed when we all turn up to the protests with our knitting and our newly minted transsexual status and signs with "support middle aged mumsnet trans terfs.". It will blow their minds!

IcakedefargeIam · 22/01/2023 18:22

I might put a dotted line round my neck!

StephanieSuperpowers · 22/01/2023 18:23

I too am officially trans now. Terfs beware etc.

angelico53 · 22/01/2023 18:27

They little know what they've done, lettting this lot into the gang.

Yes, beware of geeks bearing gifts, you transgens troysexuals bugrit lot!

Kucinghitam · 22/01/2023 18:30

I know TRSOH will be very cross that all these middle-aged partially-sentient support bipeds are falsely claiming Special status, but I genuinely tried to answer the questions as honestly as I could, I even accepted their word "gender" as they would have it. And my result was waaaaaay along the trans spectrum.

Imagine if your mum came out. You'd be back in so fast...

Madamedefargelikescrows · 22/01/2023 18:47

The question about were your friends mainly of the opposite sex/gender didn't allow for a simple, "no".

I'm sure I would have ended up trans but it stopped working half way through. I think I'd annoyed it by being a bit too woman.

Kucinghitam · 22/01/2023 18:59

Oh dear @Gonners, what did you say to literally harm TRSOH?
