Continuation of Thread 1

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

I would argue that anyone who claims to be a transwoman purely for gain or to do harm is not a true transwoman at all, but there's no real way of telling until it's too late, or until they go all the way and have surgery.

No true scotstranswoman ?

The PSNI has in the past year sacked 9 officers for 'misconduct that had a sexual or domestic element' and is currently investigating 74 more cases, with 32 officers suspended on suspicion of sexual misconduct.

Some of the cases date back years, but at least they are finally looking at the problems. Would be interesting to know how those proportions compare with other forces.

This rapidly develops into an entertaining thread on one level (well, the original interview is, on one level, highly entertaining of course)

Maggie Chapman doesn't know what sex she is

It seems to be depressingly widespread. It's funny that the police in so many jurisdictions are guilty of crimes that are so poorly prosecuted.

This was a good article on the subject. Years ago I was in a relationship with a police officer (not Met) and got to know his colleagues. Misogyny was rife to say the least, a lot of stuff I could only repeat in private.

Rotten culture in the police is a nationwide problem

Depressing, but also completely unsurprising.

AutumnCrow · 19/01/2023 10:11

Sex offending, rampant misogyny, lying about the law, corruption - and freemasonry. That's my local force.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/01/2023 10:29

Rotten culture in the police is a nationwide problem

I suspect it's more or less global tbh.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/01/2023 10:44

Does anyone know how to see the comments on Times articles? All I see is a blue box saying that you have to use your correct name now. I don't want to comment - I just want to see the comments!

bignosebignose · 19/01/2023 11:21

On that article they seem to have been turned off but I don't think they work on sharetokens anyway - think you have to be logged into an account.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/01/2023 12:58

I was reading tweets about the demonstration, you know...the one where the guy who served 30 years for kidnapping, torture and then attempted murder, a tw now and wants to be an mp, was leading a chant for Kier Starmer to eat shit? That misogynist MP, the one who was ranting against Miriam Cates in the HoC, was there? And Nadia Whittome, who has so many trans siblings, that demonstration!

Anyway, Nadia was filmed sidling away from this that someone linked. I've never seen it before. I'm not sure what's going on, but it's bizarre and hilarious. If anyone wants to find a place for it on another thread, please feel free to

Good grief

Kucinghitam · 19/01/2023 15:27

bignosebignose · 19/01/2023 15:17

Heck, are we really really sure that's not a parody?

StephanieSuperpowers · 19/01/2023 15:33

Well, eh...

I expect they're dealing with a very niche patient population.

Kucinghitam · 19/01/2023 15:40

OK, having looked at the Good doctor's replies, it's not a parody. She's a True Believer. Everything is evidence that she was Right in the first place. Also, the requisite links to SeX iS aLL ComPLiCaTeD AnD SpeCtRumY aNd sOmE SCiEnCeY sHiT aBOuT cHroMoSOmES.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/01/2023 15:48

She's a breast surgeon, currently doing a PhD study why women are under represented as surgeons.

Apparently, we're okay to call ourselves damsels!

IcakethereforeIam · 19/01/2023 15:49

....and another thing, I thought the word 'breast' was hateful and a transphobic dog whistle?

MavisMcMinty · 19/01/2023 15:53

Well it’s 6 years since I retired from cancer nursing so I suppose things could have changed in that time, but we always called it “breast cancer” whether it occurred in men or women. Never “chest cancer”.

StephanieSuperpowers · 19/01/2023 15:55

You monsters.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/01/2023 15:57

Maybe we should examine the semantic or logical differences between 'adult human female' and 'adult female human' as the definition of 'woman' in Pedants' Corner. HmmI'm pretty sure the former, which this doctor is complaining about, was simply lifted from a dictionary and that way round is how it's normally stated. Whichever order, "adult, female and human" are the trio of necessary and sufficient conditions.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 19/01/2023 16:12

The followup saying that Adult Female Human (or damsel) would be absolutely fine and correct is particularly bonkers.
