What fresh hell is this... Pronouns book for 5+

Saw this in a very prominent position in the children's section of my local library. Says for 5+. I despair.
It includes template letters for sending to your teachers and parent friends demanding that you respect your child's pronouns.

Tiktok bugs doesn't surprise me, I've seen cats and birds, they have to do something to be different. I wonder why they don't aspire to something of a higher order. I identify as a bear and demand my right to hibernate for six months through winter whilst remaining on my full salary of course. And in summer I will have to spend long hours restoring my strength by lying in the sun eating a lot, which my employer should also support.

Dd1 memorably insisted on being called by the name of Derek for a while - he was the prince in the swan princess. Now at 16 she is definitely far from a Derek!

EL0ISE · 24/12/2022 09:53

Between the ages of 3-5 my children identified as

DC1- various characters from Postman Pat, it changed on a daily basis. She also called everyone else by the names of PP characters. I was mostly Mrs Goggins. Although some days she was her own teacher.

DC2 - a tractor. Well actually several brands of tractors, one day he was a Ford, the next a John Deere. It depended on what colour of t shirt he was wearing.

DC3 - various engines from Thomas the Tank Engine.

They are teens now and identify as humans.

Every time someone announces a new pronoun (ze etc) I'm sure there's a group of people laughing somewhere going 'haha they actually fell for using that!' Surely most people can see that having a massive list of possible pronouns is ridiculous and unnecessary?!

Greyskyblue · 24/12/2022 10:06

Books are bought centrally and often staff just put them out without looking at them. If it’s a new book it may well be displayed because it is new. If you think library books are inappropriate, bring it to the attention of a staff member, the manager or the council. I have family members who work in libraries and they have had to remove grossly offensive books and videos from time to time.

These books have deservedly received one or two 1 star reviews (among the ideologically pure reviews from people who want their 7 month olds to be learning zillions of different pronouns), but I note that one reviewer had his review taken down, so Amazon appears to be censoring.

Was Derek the name of the Prince? It doesn't seem a very Princely name somehow. We should start a baby naming thread....

Ozzy man is my secret vice.
Here he is reviewing girl horse.
I must say I find her athleticism and commitment most impressive. This was three years ago. I wonder what she's doing now.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 24/12/2022 11:28

I should totally respect all of this, but whenever I see pronouns written anywhere in confirmation I think 'just fuck off.'

There was a quote on Radio 4 the other day from some millennial/Gen Z about the mental health crisis saying that their problem is that they've lived with existential threats since birth and it's no wonder they can't cope. It was like they'd never heard of the World Wars, bubonic plague, Cold War.... every other existential threat throughout history. Just so bloody self-absorbed! I feel this pronoun thing is another way to get attention.

The quote afterwards restored order by saying the problem is social media and having news in their face all the time. Yes, news and fake ideals they feel beholden to compete with all the time.

Feel free to bash me for saying very unreasonable things.

Horse Girl - That is extraordinary, she really is moving very like a horse does in spite of her different body.

Here is a puppy that thinks it is a rabbit.

That doesn’t mean that transhorses are horses or transrabbits are rabbits though!

It is indoctrination is what it is. Normalising this to impressionable children so that they grow up thinking this is normal and people questioning it are not normal.

Yes. it is.
Children are being indoctrinated in school too.

There's another one on Amazon which is for children from babies to 3.
See this 5 star review:

"My seven month old loves the book for the pictures of people and I appreciate being able to introduce her to this concept from the start of her verbal development."

Did the reviewer just assume the pronouns of a non-verbal seven month old? How do they know that he/she/they/furry want to be known as "her"?

MyCrumpetIsCold · 25/12/2022 00:17

I know of at least one bookseller who will be shoving this crap down the back of shelves if it appears in the shop she works in. A bit like The Antiracist Baby, copies of which were removed from sale when they were badly damaged somehow …

DdraigGoch · 25/12/2022 00:18

Do libraries still date-stamp books when they issue them? It would be interesting to know just how often they get checked out.

Before they accidentally slide down the back of the shelf, of course.

Reading the "about the author" bit on the back was weird. Refers to "she" or "her throughout but then right at the end there's a "they" which sends you scanning back to see who else was involved.

LemonadeSunshine · 25/12/2022 01:45

What utter tripe!

What is the Wales reference??

nationallampoons · 25/12/2022 01:58

Bills new dress is another book! My daughter came home with it when she was 7/8

Rightsraptor · 25/12/2022 02:06

Books don't get date stamped at the self-checkouts so you often can't tell how often they've been out (unless you get someone like me who writes the due date in by hand). The libraries know though.

This book looks bloody ridiculous.

Breakfastinbedonhols · 25/12/2022 02:06

A group of parents took the WG to court to stop them making sexuality lessons compulsory from age 3+ and they have lost. You cannot withdraw your child from these lessons now.

I wonder what would happen to parents who keep their children home on those days?

Some parents just have enough and home school if they can.

Every time someone announces a new pronoun (ze etc) I'm sure there's a group of people laughing somewhere going 'haha they actually fell for using that!' Surely most people can see that having a massive list of possible pronouns is ridiculous and unnecessary?!

This! It’s like making up a load of preposterous new pronouns that you can insist people use, is in itself a massive pisstake of the whole idea of gender ideology. It’s obviously made up and belies the fact that having a “gender identity” is also made up and meaningless. Yet it just gets absorbed into the whole thing. How can you possibly “come out” as ze/zir or fae or fluxgender or whatever when someone just thought it up last week? How can you not be embarrassed about being such a self-obsessed PITA as to actually instruct other people to use a special pronoun for you that literally sounds like a satire on the whole pronoun bollocks? I don’t understand how so many people seem to totally lack a sense of humour about their own self-importance.

My fully genderwoo, “genderqueer” relative has a ze/zir friend who is one of the most unstable, detached from reality people I have ever met, and I say that kindly, I am not attacking this person for having some MH issues. But jumping on whatever new identity they possibly can every few months is what they do. It’s the very antithesis of a “true” identity.

Boiledbeetle · 26/12/2022 12:19

@SockGoddess at this point we need some stooges to infiltrate, start off at first as non binary to get your foot in, try out he/they for a while, then a quick flirt with ze/zir to make sure you've got all bases covered then secretly publish on line some new pronoun list that gives she/her as perfectly legitimate pronouns for a female person who's completely confused of think they are a man

Ta da women back to female pronouns no matter what the think they would like to be if life was a video game. Shut showing my age there, computer game? No even that sounds out of date. Ah online game.man

I mean it's no more batshit than the current way they choose their pronouns.
