www.independent.co.uk/voices/jk-rowling-sexual-abuse-service-women-trans-b2244252.html?amp

I'm not properly awake yet but this has made me fucking angry. A world where women offering a safe place to women is deemed hateful. Surely the EA covers JKR on this?

JKR is an inspiration and such a treat to the egos of men that they must do whatever they can to try to destroy her. How pathetic.

The world has gone mad.

I saw some headline yesterday (I think also the the Independent) about how will JKR's reputation survive her setting up this centre.

Declined to click on it. The Independent is even worse than the Guardian on this subject.

Hoardasurass · 15/12/2022 07:40

That article is so full of wilful misrepresentations and hieperbally(sp) it's ridiculous. Trans people are not baned just men even those who identify as women or non binary, whilst women who are trans (ie transmen and women who identify as non binary) are welcome. Which is and always has been legal under the equality act 2010. As for the Edinburgh rape crisis center under a man(no grc or surgery so a man) thats a joke especially after what that man has said and done, publicly saying that traumatised women needing to refaim their trauma to allow them to talk about it with men and must be re-educated to receive help being held up as best practice is disgusting.

Boiledbeetle · 15/12/2022 07:45

The way the piece is written apart from the absolute hated of JKR for doing something nice, it appears that the person writing it has completely forgotten that trans people can also be the female of the species presenting as transmen. So his line about trans people not being allowed is wrong. You just can't come in if you are the male of the species wether that be presenting as a male or as a transwoman.

Of course I'm not surprised given the misogyny on show in that piece of writing.

BedTaker · 15/12/2022 07:47

Reading that article made my brain hurt, and not just because it is absolutely dripping with misogyny.

The Independent used to be a respected broadsheet newspaper. Now its basically just Buzzfeed.

Comparing Beiras Place with a whites only orphanage as well was a particularly low moment in the article and also calling a service exclusively for females 'a monument to hate'.

I really do realise now that most women have no idea how much we are despised by men.

pigonalipstick · 15/12/2022 07:49

The article is an un researched, bias, clickbaity piece of shit,

The comments however are excellent

KvotheTheBloodless · 15/12/2022 07:53

On the plus side, the shitbags so keen to sue her will run out of money way before she does. I can only hope that the emotional cost to JKR isn't too high, what Caroline Farrow has been through is awful.

CathyBoardman · 15/12/2022 07:54

Infuriating

They just feel so empowered to spout the most hateful bile nowadays don't they?

Welcome to Scotland. The new Afghanistan

How do you see the comments ??

waterwitch · 15/12/2022 07:59

Many congratulations to The Independent for their unbiased and carefully thought-through analysis 🙄

Either Beira’s place will indeed alleviate the wait times at ERC and be a benefit to all users OR Beira’s place will address a need which is currently unmet, recognising that many women who need support have been left without because they are unable to respond ‘appropriately’ to a man’s demand that they “reframe their trauma”

With reference to the race comparison, it is demonstrably acceptable to have services specifically for non-white communities. Women are not the oppressors.

I do really hope Beira’s management team have a robust plan for how they will deal with the undoubted pushback following the recent court ruling. Unfortunately I expect, as with the LGBA, money which could be doing so much good will need to be diverted for legal protection.

You have to make an account and log in. I think you also have to have a paid subscription to be able to up/downvote comments (I just tried)

There are quite a lot of anti-JKR comments on there atm. It was properly grinding my gears.

Summerhillsquare · 15/12/2022 08:14

Misogyny sells newspapers.

sweetgrapes · 15/12/2022 08:28

Terrible terrible JKR! Oh my god... what did she do! How could she stoop so low as to put her money where her mouth is?
How could she spend money on unsanctioned things when there are actual MEN who could use her money instead?

Bad JK, get in the corner and think about you did. No sweeties for you JK.

Ffs... who do these ppl think they are. For avoidance of doubt the above is my attempt at being sarcastic.

I think JKR is actually wonderful. Ovaries of steel with a beautiful heart and mind to go with it.

Yep

Could someone post a few samples of the comments please?

Alcemeg · 15/12/2022 08:46

I wish I could see the comments (don't have a subscription, and most certainly don't intend to pay the paper that publishes this kind of trash).

Hard to believe something so juvenile gets published in the national press.

On the plus side, the author seems to be struggling to find work, see pic. Not surprising really 🤨

Something to throw on the fire in these times of high heating bills?

Clymene · 15/12/2022 09:06

Looking at Ryan's LinkedIn, he seems to have rather a spotty career history. I wonder why? Hmm

DreamingOfAGreenChristmas · 15/12/2022 09:08

Oh, if only women who are survivors of rape and sexual assault asked men with no experience what it is that they need to help them get through, all this unpleasantness could be avoided.

DreamingOfAGreenChristmas · 15/12/2022 09:10

‘A monument to hate’ indeed. What a monumental arse he is. It is rape that is a monument to hate, and a stain on the reputation of your sex, you horrid little twerp, Ryan.

TourmalineGiraffe · 15/12/2022 09:10

Just read the article. Wow! Absolutely no awareness of women at all.
Framed entirely in how it is seen in the context of trans rights.
Does it never ever occur that this is not about YOU!
Dripping with misogyny is right.
