I'm now fairly confident these are the actual figures for Sheffield Central:
Abtisam Mohamed 433
Eddie Izzard 175
Rizwana Lala 173
Jayne Dunn 64

Just looking at these figures and a PP saying these are large numbers for a CLP. It brings home how easily corruptible democracy is. In safe seats this is who is choosing the MPs, not the voters. People are too fixed into party loyalty/demonisation of the alternatives to vote for candidates from other parties; how often do we hear “I would never vote Tory”. So in order to get a seat in Parliament the number of people who need to be ‘won over’ is just a couple of hundred or, as PP said less than 100 at their CLP, possible a few dozen. I know they still have to be voted in but given that is often just a formality they really are rotten boroughs. I am not suggesting Abtisam is corrupt (I have heard nothing to even hint this) or this just a labour issue, just how easily corruptible it is if you are related to people/have business dealings in an area.

It's been brought home to me how much democracy hangs in the balance via Green Party votes. It's no wonder they've been captured.

The slightly bonkers thought of joining the conservatives occurred to me recently; if more left leaning people did this they're would eventually be more left leaning MPs and policies! Obviously many more and it's a pipe dream... but you can see how those in large business start to see how they pull the strings.

A thinking outside the box idea...

I'm not flouncing from the greens as I feel I am a supporter of the resistance there.

Really don't to derail the thread - Emma Bateman has an update on her case. Might make a new thread.

Looks like a very convincing win for Abitsam Mohamed.

Lovely to see good news. Well done Sheffield Central.

I detest the concept of safe seats, but heartened to hear the local Labour team here valued a proven track record on community issues.

I hope this sends a message to other celebs idly contemplating a go at politics.

A local person has been chosen. Wish it applied in many other constituencies, for example the Tories in Uxbridge and South Ruislip deselecting their misogynist lazy MP.
