From her website:

I’m the daughter of a Yemeni steelworker. Growing up here during the 1980s and 90s I experienced the pain and poverty caused by the Tories.

I left school with 4 GCSEs, but through hard work and access to education made possible by a Labour Government.

I qualified as a teacher and then as a lawyer, while working full-time in community development.

I mean she's clearly qualified in a way Eddie couldn't fathom.

quite compelling tbh. certainly better than, 'I briefly attended uni in Sheffield after leaving my public school on the south coast, obviously scuttled back down to London as soon as I graduated, subsequently went on to tell some mildly amusing jokes in the 90s, and these days make headlines wearing fabulous dresses, despite being a 60 year old man'.

Izzard has already tried to be elected to the Labour NEC. Failed on both occasions.

Given the alleged position of the Labour hierarchy I fear they will just try to parachute eddie into another constituency

Izzard will still have to get past the constituency Labour parties (the CLPs) won't he? And Sheffield Central's has shown them all how to have the balls to do it.

(That's a big constituency party if those numbers are right! My local one has about 100 members max, if that, and it has a Labour MP.)

Rainbowshit · 04/12/2022 20:33

Well done that woman!!

LizzieSiddal · 04/12/2022 20:58

I'm so pleased to hear this. Izzard can fuck right off.

People in Sheffield won't have nonsense. They got rid of Clegg after he proved to be a worthless turncoat, after all...

Maybe not the best example, given that Clegg’s replacement turned out to be such a prolific misogynist that even the Labour party couldn’t turn a blind eye.

AliceThorpe · 04/12/2022 21:08

Very happy that Sheffield rejected him

GrinAndVomit · 04/12/2022 21:10

She’s a very, very worthy winner.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/12/2022 21:14

Arf. Well done Abtisam!

Hopefully Izzard, his ego and political pretensions will take a hike.

I wonder. Has there ever been a successful comedian turn their hand to politics?

Oh yes, Zelensky of course. Beppo Grille in Italy. Al Franken. But in this country?

Oh of course, Boris Johnson. How could I forget him?

There are many comedians in Parliament 🙄

Melroses · 04/12/2022 21:49

Oh whoops - that was the wrong one Blush

Off you fuck, Mister Izzard

murasaki · 04/12/2022 22:14

Well done Sheffield.

I am laughing at this almost more than I laughed at Izzard back when he was funny.

ZeldaFighter · 04/12/2022 22:21

Well, I used to be quite proud of being a non-materialistic, slacker Gen Xer. Not so sure now 😕

twelly · 04/12/2022 22:25

Pleased it was a candidate from the locality rather than someone who was from elsewhere. The local party made their decision and were not swayed by external influences

Inertia · 04/12/2022 22:36

That's great news!

littlbrowndog · 04/12/2022 22:41

🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🍸🍸

Thelnebriati · 05/12/2022 00:15

Its an absolute mystery why locals would prefer an active local politician over a celebrity.

Fantina · 05/12/2022 00:23

It’s almost like the CLP wants Labour to win the next election

Newcatbrowntail · 05/12/2022 00:26

Men doing woman face is clearly not the grass roots vote winner the labour elite thought it was.

Melroses · 05/12/2022 00:38

Most of the generation whatevva bollox is like astrology - it varies as to which one I am even in 🤷‍♀️ Unfortunately it might be the one nearer to Eddie 😖

List of Eddie backing the wrong horse.

nice one Sheffield!

GrinAndVomit · 05/12/2022 06:51

Has the number of votes for the candidates been published?

Looks like a very convincing win for Abitsam Mohamed.
