Good for her, refusing to back down. Williams is a woman from a wealthy background who went to an extremely expensive private school and Oxford (like most Guardian writers) who revels in the virtue of her luxury beliefs. She doesn't offer anything or argue anything new here and I hope it'll peak a few more people.

ZW is not worthy! Stand out for me is that Sweden give out We should all be feminists to all their children!

'She is a commanding presence: flawless to look at, serene in her confidence, vivid and trenchant in her quest to smash every point and win every argument.'

Weird sentence construction. Anyway. Continuing to read.

Almost like projection...

(See ZW; "I'm not having that")

AutumnCrow · 28/11/2022 12:24

Towards the end of this bizarre auto-hagiography, Zoe Williams comes perilously close to comparing herself as a writer to Gunter Grass.

That bit is an excerpt from Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie's Reith lecture.

KatMcBundleFace · 28/11/2022 13:23

"We could have argued all day, but she had a plane to catch"

LMAO Zoe.
I mean, you could try, in the name of free speech of course, but you really are out of your league here. Be kind and lie isn't the greatest argument.....

Thank goodness for that! I don't know how I got confused by the segues in the ZW piece but I did.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is one of the most intelligent women I have ever read or heard speak. Long before the trans debate she was offering carefully considered rather than popular views. And her fiction is out of this world. She is a classic writer. Brilliant, thoughtful, honest.

Amen to that!

"We could have argued all day, but she had a plane to catch"

Well, that's what she told you, Zoe.

EsmaCannonball · 28/11/2022 15:38

It's the disingenuousness that I can't stand. In the wake of a particularly terrible crime, so many female journalists will write pieces about women's safety and male violence but then, when it's culturally expedient, will openly disparage and ridicule any woman who fears male violence. It's the way they claim fear of men is so silly and unreasonable and not for smart, modern women like them.

The bit about not caring what toilet your brother would want to use if he came out as trans was particularly asinine. Newsflash, Zoe: all the men who have ever been violent towards women have relatives.

Brilliantly put.

JulesJules · 28/11/2022 16:42

This was embarrassingly poor. Zoe clearly has a ridiculously inflated opinion of herself.

RoyalCorgi · 28/11/2022 16:59

Someone could or should point Zoe to the thread on Twitter about the trans police officers. I don't suppose it would do any good, though. She seems resistant to both logic and evidence.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/11/2022 09:02

We break briefly so I can look at a photo of her brother, who is smiling, tall, bearded and handsome. .... I suggest that he would look different if he were living as a woman.

That is a prejudiced and ignorant statement by Zoe Williams. He might look different but a trans woman doesn't suddenly stop looking male by "livig as a woman". Most people who have been through male puberty still look male for years after coming out as trans. And most wont ever look unequivocally like women either. Even after medication and surgery and electrolysis and makeup and whatever else, indicators like height, build, extremities, gait... they don't all change and some can't be changed at all.

Which is of course exactly what CNA pointed out to her Grin She cannot seem to follow an argument, much less construct one with any substance. Hearing 'Not if you consider women’s views to be valid… Are there no such things as objective truth and facts?' and understanding it to mean ‘All women are threatened by trans women.’ is the height/depths of a failure of comprehension and of basic reasoning.
This is very British and cliched of me, but I shall be writing a strongly worded letter to the Guardian.

@DameHelena You rock!

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 28/11/2022 17:52

ZW was outclassed at every level. The entire article was an own goal; showing how clever, articulate and reasoned CNA's points were and how crushingly self-satisfied ZW is.

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 28/11/2022 18:03

GOD ZW is such a moron!

"I’m not having that. “You couldn’t objectively say, ‘All women are threatened by trans women.’ I’m also a woman. That doesn’t reflect my experience.”

She's NOT saying that ffs. She's saying that an object fact is that a transwoman is not a biological woman! What a crap writer she is 🙈

bumpertobumper · 28/11/2022 18:33

Just had a look at ZW twitter - she has posted a link to this article saying:
I usually find the free speech debate exhausting but I had a fine old time fighting [!!!!] with CNA

Out of her 70k followers she has 69 likes and 71 comments - overwhelmingly on CNA side

Is that what they call being ratio'ed?

Whattaboutit · 28/11/2022 18:41

Just went to read this article as I only had time for a quick skim earlier and it’s been completely removed from the Guardian homepage. Weird.

bumpertobumper · 28/11/2022 18:43

Yes, I had to find it buried in the culture section

Lottapianos · 28/11/2022 18:58

'Out of her 70k followers she has 69 likes and 71 comments - overwhelmingly on CNA side'

Excellent! What an absolute twerp she is

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/11/2022 19:18

I love CNA but I'm not sure I can bear to read a ZW article.

WolverineBlueyy · 28/11/2022 19:52

bumpertobumper · 28/11/2022 18:43

Yes, I had to find it buried in the culture section

It did seem it was buried. From the photography and the length of the piece I'd assume it was a G2 cover story, but online it didn't make the 'spotlight' section, nor did they seem to have promoted it on Facebook the last time I checked.

Mynewchairhasarmrests · 28/11/2022 19:56

As other posters have said, anyone who claims not to get it in 2022 is either thick or lying. I cannot decide which category Zoe falls into. Perhaps both.
