Looks like it may only be getting aired in Wales?

And these wonderful women made the press by showing their support for women at the Derby Arena.

I would be interested to know what percentage of "trans" athletes are on oestrogen or have had surgery.

Really strange how so many transwomen athletes seem to be reluctant to take oestrogen or have surgery. Usually trans people are desperate to take cross-sex hormones and have surgery as soon as possible.

There's the Gucci photoshoot too ...

Out of interest, will there be a documentary on emerging female cyclists?

And how are they getting Gucci photo shoots, presumably paid for, I mean, who looks at that picture and thinks Gucci is the brand for them?

This might be an interesting read for anyone not that familiar with the reasoning behind Bridges exclusion from the female category (and they should not be banned from the male category ).

That is still not convincing and I notice the porn open mouth look seems to be a favourite.

Thanks for posting that.

The CCES paper was such patent nonsense with its ridiculous misquoting of research findings that it’s good to see a firm rebuttal.

So much airbrushing, and yes that awful open mouth (assume it softens the jawline rather than just going for the vacant porn look).

The deaf eyes make me believe it is the porn look. I could be wrong. But I wouldn’t mind betting this male thinks this is ‘sexy woman look’.

Helleofabore · 29/11/2022 18:44

Sorry. Dead eyes. They are very vacant.

That always reminds me of the legendary and much-missed Bowie eg below. I think it’s the hair:

At least Bowie knew who he was, and what he was, whatever he was wearing.

Documentary is viewable here:

www.itv.com/walesprogrammes/articles/race-to-be-me

it’s a bit… empty? As in, hardly any narrative?

And very short.

Almost as if they were expecting to film Bridges competing against female cyclists and instead had to make do with filming Bridges complaining about not being able to compete…

GinnyCwmbran · 30/11/2022 00:19

Have name changed for this.

I watched the documentary, and I live on the outskirts of Cwmbrân, where Emily & family are from. In fact, I'm sure that I saw EB walking around Cwmbrân Shopping during the summer, but I digress.

The narrative was what you'd expect; that although British Cycling would allow EB to race as a female, UCI wouldn't. IIRC, it was British Cycling who refused to give EB a license to race as a female, but happy to be corrected. EB seemed to want to be the first successful transwoman cyclist which must be news to Veronika (sic) Ivy, who was quoted in the documentary.

Much was made of the impact that lowering EB's testosterone levels to under 5 nanomoles per litre had had on EB's competitive ability - two races were shown with poor results, but it wasn't made clear exactly when EB had started taking oestrogen.

EB made a comment about having seen a gender specialist, who I would guess to be our old friends the Webberleys, given that you can reach Abergavenny from Cwmbran in about half an hour. There was a lot of navel gazing, and woe is me moments, but a few things I found ironic. The incorrect spelling of Veronica Ivy's name, Sandra (EB's mum) calling the UCI "Bastards", and that during one segment about how it scared EB to have little privacy, journalists knocking at the family's front door etc, the full name of EB's step father was shown on a certificate on the mantelpiece.

I'm sure there's more that other people will have spotted, though.

PandoraVox · 30/11/2022 00:31

Couple of people in the road.cc story's comment section saying there are more than two sexes, which is always amusing.

FusilliFettler · 30/11/2022 06:31

during one segment about how it scared EB to have little privacy, journalists knocking at the family's front door etc,

And yet the Bridges family seize every opportunity to be in the news. They have made choices that put this young person in the eye of a media storm eg this documentary, the ITV interview, the endless magazine covers…
I don’t know who is pushing this media presence but I don’t see how it’s helping anyone, especially EB themselves.

SallyLockheart · 30/11/2022 07:19

Just watched it. Me,me, mental health, me, me, mental health on loop. There’s a segment about 19 minutes in when he is challenged by the itv journalist about the retained biological advantages - the response is to look down and just about smirk. “Emily” knows there is a retained advantage

strikes me as an unhappy teenager - bit odd, lonely - listened to the wrong therapist and imbibed lots of trans online media. Many of the phrases used are depressingly familiar from TW.

FusilliFettler · 30/11/2022 08:06

I’ve just started watching. Spotted Joanna Harper with the family at Loughborough, which explains some of the sound bites about fair competition. Also noticed the change in voice - narration is always soft and gentle lady voice, the pieces filmed at races are EV’s genuine voice.

Dreikanter · 30/11/2022 09:43

Emily still pushing the “fellow female athletes” line.

Just no. Until Emily accepts that Emily is not and never can be female then I fear Emily will continue to struggle.

So it’s all moved on from trans women to trans female. Nothing is safe is it?

piedbeauty · 30/11/2022 10:39

Just read that ITV article. What a load of bullshit.

This is what queer people are facing in 2022. Our basic human rights are being debated over so-called “valid concerns'' leading to radicalisation and attacks.

You can't conflate the horrendous attack on the gay bar in Colorado Springs to EB not being able to race against women!! But EB has done so.

This isn’t about sport for me, it’s so much more and trying to fight in the way I can and know how to.

Oh, of course it's all about sport. Otherwise EB would be an activist another way.

I was aware of how the trans swimmer Lia Thomas was being treated in America, and I recognised the potential for things to progress the same way.

What, with women being forced to change in the same changing room as Lia and told to shut up if they complained?

I’ve felt a much deeper connection to being Welsh since transitioning and losing the opportunity to represent my country really hurt.

😂What, because EB wasn't good enough as a man to race for Wales?? Because her lady brain is more patriotic?

We feel our bodies changing and there’s a clear physical difference between being on hormones and before HRT. But this is not just a feeling, my data across transition will be published soon, and I believe it will show that I haven’t got any unfair advantage and that I’m not going to dominate women's sports anytime soon.

Because the data will be flawed?

But realistically, sport never has been or will be completely, 100% fair. Whether we are talking about the fact that tall women will almost always be better at basketball, or that women from poorer countries have fewer resources to work with than women from richer countries, or that men get more coverage and better funding than women, there are plenty of discussions to be had about what fairness in sport really looks like.

FFS. A trans women competing against women is nothing like a tall woman competing agianst a shorter woman 🙄

It’s kept cycling alive for me, that inclusive community that I wish road and track cycling was and should strive to be.

Move over, women, and make way for meeeeee!

The cognitive dissonance and self-absorption really are something.
