I emailed the CEO of Sainsburys a couple of weeks ago about a Facebook add which kept appearing with Kitty (a man dressed as a woman) telling us women how we should have body confidence, presumably they couldn’t find a woman to discuss womens body confidence.

The add got ripped to shreds, Sainsburys accidentally posted “NFA” when it was pointed out that they probably meant to keep this internal it got quickly deleted.

Eventually they removed the add then reposted and basically got all the same responses.

Today I got a reply internally lodging my complaint - given the obvious signs GI has infiltrated this brand see picture I don’t expect anyone to do anything - another brand off the shopping list.

The post before yours says they were sorry that poster felt that way, not that they were sorry for getting involved.

I feel that boycotting a firm on the basis of one fairly innocuous tweet made several years ago is an over-reaction. They at least did apologise, even if some demanded the full sack-cloth and ashes prostration and were disappointed not to get it.

As I said, it is nothing like the situation at Sainsbury's that is occurring right now.

Are people really going to boycott for ever and ever, never accepting that attitudes and circumstances change, sucking dry the memory of the slight until the end of time? You're going to have a very limited pool in which to interact if so.
I thought the idea was to change people's opinions.

Then you feel free to keep on using these companies.
Personally I think they wont change their minds on getting involved in anything other than local charities until they feel it in their pockets.

And apologising that the customer feels sad/bad/angry/whatever about something is not the same as saying they were wrong.

If they hold up their hands, admit they could have done it different or better or not done it at all, then they get the chance to have my custom again.

In the end we are talking about 50% of the population, we too should matter as much as the other 50%
