I emailed the CEO of Sainsburys a couple of weeks ago about a Facebook add which kept appearing with Kitty (a man dressed as a woman) telling us women how we should have body confidence, presumably they couldn’t find a woman to discuss womens body confidence.

The add got ripped to shreds, Sainsburys accidentally posted “NFA” when it was pointed out that they probably meant to keep this internal it got quickly deleted.

Eventually they removed the add then reposted and basically got all the same responses.

Today I got a reply internally lodging my complaint - given the obvious signs GI has infiltrated this brand see picture I don’t expect anyone to do anything - another brand off the shopping list.

I've fixed that graphic from up thread

well done! Perfect

God, there will be nowhere left to shop soon. M&S, primark, all the banks. Where is ok supermarketwise? Waitrose is John Lewis (off the list since that appalling advert showing the boy throwing paint everywhere). Is Tesco ok?

Tesco did give Mermaids a donation in 2020 @Footballmatchdilemma

But this year it went to Switchboard, Terence Higgins and Fighting With Pride (www.vercida.com/uk/articles/tesco-donate-to-pride-2022 ) so I'm back with them... for now.

NippyWoowoo · 24/11/2022 14:53

I couldn't get past this bit: 'A supermarket clothing brand has unveiled the first ever dynamic changing room where customers can test out clothes on a treadmill.'

All I can think of is even sweatier clothes being tried on by multiple people. WHO thinks of these things? 🤢

Chersfrozenface · 24/11/2022 15:16

I wonder how long you'd be allowed to stay on the treadmill. Cheaper than a gym, surely. Y'know, if you didn't buy any clothes after trying some on.

Ofcourseshecan · 24/11/2022 15:56

You truly couldn't make it up.

It comes after a poll of 2,000 adults found nearly half (48 percent) avoid trying on clothes in changing rooms, due to the tight spaces (20 percent), and feeling insecure (15 percent).

Yes, I feel insecure because no management has the guts to keep men out of women's changing rooms. But now that I see men being invited to stroll in I feel sooooooooo much more secure.....

Yes unfortunately sainsburys have been well and truly captured. They announced recently that they have made their staff changing rooms/ toilets gender neutral and won't be entertaining complaints from any staff ( read that as female staff of course) who object to this. There is a link to the Daily mail but I don't know how to post it.
Glad I don't work for them.anymore

I thought that was actually illegal? Don't employers as big as Sainsbury's have to provide separate women's toilets?

Either way, I'd say the women should turn to their union. Only all the unions seem to have dumped women's rights in favour of cosying up to the men.

AriettyHomily · 24/11/2022 16:07

So many things wrong with this I don't know where to start.

WTAF?

Any my Sainsbury's changing rooms have been closed since Covid anyway.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 24/11/2022 16:32

This is depressing news!
I am not impressed with the ad -but object to Sainsbury's response even more.

They have so many female staff and so many female customers... why are they still so male-focused?

There are other supermarkets available here. Time I got to know them better.

Thoroughly W1A, isn't it?!

Hannahthepink · 24/11/2022 17:19

Sainsbury's haven't made staff facilities gender neutral in mine or any store that I know of personally. (Not sure if it's the case everywhere, but certainly not in my own experience).

This was also a very limited PR exercise, it didn't even get much airtime on our internal communications!

Tesco has also used that appalling TW that campaigns for extreme porn to be legalised.

I think Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons are ok

mcduffy · 24/11/2022 17:24

I cancelled my delivery pass and switched to Morrisons when the toilets changed to mixed last year, and told them why. The woman on the phone was a bit arsey about it.

MangyInseam · 24/11/2022 17:25

Toseland · 24/11/2022 13:42

I've really had enough now, I feel so pushed out of society, I don't have anyone to vote for and all the shops I would usually use have no respect for women. Even my local art gallery is doing 'drag queen life drawing' classes and a promotional video for my town features mainly drag queens. Classes at the local theatre for kids - run by drag queens. I can't even escape it at work, where we have drag queen story time for employee's kids and lunchtime talks on being 'queer'. :(

It's so weird, like a sudden thing for mimes.

brilliantred · 24/11/2022 18:08

Typical shutting down females event. Disgraceful. 100% won't be going to Sainsbury's anymore.

exwhyzed · 24/11/2022 19:14

I've not had any concerns about Morrison's and their fresh food is vastly superior to other supermarkets.

I find Morrison's very woman friendly generally though, my local one took space from the mens toilets in a refurb and installed a massive 'baby change' that was one big room with tons of room to push a double pushchair into, Morrison's brand nappies and wipes and sanitary protection available in baskets on the side , an adult size toilet and a toddler size toilet and a comfy sofa type thing to sit on as well that was often used by women to sit and breastfeed on. It could be locked to be single use or left open if you didn't mind other people using it at the same time as you.

they will have to do something really badly wrong for me go elsewhere, I am forever grateful for them being one of the few places I could take two under two and know there was somewhere safe to 'park' us all if one needed changing and the other needed feeding.

they have also very strategically placed the child and parent parking at a really quiet place in the car park with an undercover footpath all the way to the doors and a trolly park for all the 'baby' and child seat trolleys next to it.

it's like someone actually thought, who are our main customer base and what can we do to make them happy.

in comparison the sainsburys round the corner is borderline deserted.

ThatPirateLady · 24/11/2022 19:36

Oh no. I use Sainsbury’s as I can send DH to click and collect on his way home.

Oh well. Morrisons and Aldi are pretty convenient. They can have our money instead.

shame about the wine, but frankly I should cut that too.

Birdsweepsin · 24/11/2022 21:20

@exwhyzed that's really lovely to read. I just don't have a Morrisons anywhere near. But so glad you do x

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 24/11/2022 21:39

Sainsburys are a disgrace and I avoid shopping with them like the plague. I collect nectar points on my credit card and will only use them to pay for free petrol, never groceries.

RolleenCooney · 24/11/2022 21:40

I’ve switched to Morrison’s as a result of this as well. Was a Sainsburys customer for years prior.

We had been making headway with my company's EDI Head on reversing their new 'gender identity' data capture policy which had replaced 'sex'. I was then handed over to the new EDI Head who had pronouns in HIS signature. We didn't bother continuing the conversation.
Anyone with pronouns in their signature is either really stupid, un-informed, un-educated or knows everything that is going on and simply hates women.

Dontaskdontget · 24/11/2022 21:50

“Changing rooms can be a scary place” says Kitty in the advert. Literally mocking women’s and girl’s physical safety concerns about letting men into women’s changing rooms. Wonder how the girls assaulted by transwomen in women’s changing rooms and toilets feel about this advert.

Oh, Sainsburys, Sainsburys. How very 2019 of you. Read the room.

But in good news - Pret frozen croissants are now stocked on Ocado, so there is no need to shop at Sainsburys anymore 👌

Jammy62 · 24/11/2022 21:57

How does asda fair for this type of thing? Morrisons sadly dont deliver to me

The ocado response to the woman poster (opposite the Labour conference?) was what brought me to this board in 2018. I was a loyal customer of 10+ years and was on their freebies testing panel. Not spent anything with them since. Sainsbury's were my replacement Blush oh well

I've not tried them before your review here is encouraging me to try them. It looks as if the aren't very far from Sainsbury's.

I've worked at Tesco and there was always a separate, communal female changing room with lockers, and a toilet block that lead off from this. The men also had the same (although interestingly theirs was smaller). If Sainsbury's have the same set up, I'm not sure they could be made unisex.
I had to clean both, and the mens always stank of piss because of the urinals.
