Watching the chancellors speech and the female MP next to Rachel Reeves is in green, white and purple! A member of the shadow cabinet making a point?

Sorry, she is next to Angela Raynor. Rachel Reeves is talking!

Ooh interesting - I am a bit crap with politicians - do you know who she is?

Redup · 17/11/2022 12:39

I don’t know who she is and I can’t see her now. I just saw her dress next to Raynor again. Will see if I can find out once I see her face again!

I think it's Thangam Debbonaire. Is she a front bencher? She was the only Labour MP to speak out when the feminist fringe meeting at Labour conference was besieged by a howling mob.

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2022 13:16

On the front bench, white jacket, glasses? Bit hard to see her from the side.

If its Thangam that's quite the statement as she's in one of the wokest constituencies in the country!!!

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2022 13:22

Yes, that's her, I think. Thangham Debbonaire. Will attach a crap quality screenshot.

Shadow Leader of the House of Commons.

Thangam statement

Slothtoes · 17/11/2022 13:28

Fantastic!!! Love this. Good on her!

Norma27 · 17/11/2022 13:40

Amazing! Just saw the twitter thread where she is asked if that was her. Gutted I’m banned so can’t make a comment to her.

Yes, Thangham! Please, please stand up for Rosie Duffield. Please stand up for women.

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2022 13:47

Karin Smyth!

'Dictating our clothing, removing us from the public sphere and our resistance to such diktat has a long history in the women’s movement. Still shocking in 2022.'

thank you Thangham Debbonaire- more like this please and your party might yet get my vote back

AlecTrevelyan006 · 17/11/2022 13:57

I’m not sure Rayner and Starmer were happy about it

Why? Did they make a comment?

Sausagenbacon · 17/11/2022 14:41

Is that it? Thangham's an excellent local MP, but I find this trifling. She's had lots of opportunities to say something significant on tans issue but has studiously avoided doing so.

Abitofalark · 17/11/2022 14:42

Thangam Debonnaire speaking now. Green scarf, purple blouse, cream white jacket.

fabricstash · 17/11/2022 14:47

She is my MP and is very vocal on VAWG and very hard working. However Bristol is very hip do she avoids saying anything directly on the gender identity issue

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2022 14:48

Good for her.
I'd hope that no one - regardless of their position re trans issues - would criticise her position Telling women what we can wear, denying our agency and our choice to be in a place of democracy wearing purple green and cream - still happening in 2022 and still why we still need our feminism.

These colours represent women's rights in general, and our right to an equal voice within our democratic processes in particular.

She has a position as Shadow Leader of the House, appointed by the Opposition Leader - Starmer. Her job is to challenge the government. Can't see her publicly going against her own leader and party.

We will win. And we will win by taking in any ally who stands up for women's rights even if in the past they did not do so. Many were too afraid to do so. Many that did lost their jobs (Kathleen Stock) their marriage (Graham Linehan) etc. So I say will done to Thangham, may many emulate her. And find their inner feminism. Like women on this board do every day.

Igmum · 17/11/2022 15:00

Good for her. Wouldn't it be great to see both Houses of Parliament awash with these colours? Plus the whole Royal Family Grin

ScribblingPixie · 17/11/2022 15:17

I caught a glimpse of Catherine West, Haringey MP, in a green jumper & my hopes were raised but no, just worn with a black trouser suit. She's too cowardly to ever stick up for women unless it's with Keir Starmer's explicit permission.
