Watching the chancellors speech and the female MP next to Rachel Reeves is in green, white and purple! A member of the shadow cabinet making a point?

Courage calls to courage everywhere. Even if people are late to the party, if they have a public role then personally I welcome them (remain disappointed and exasperated with people I know who don’t have a public role for not thinking about this subject).

Is that it? Thangham's an excellent local MP, but I find this trifling. She's had lots of opportunities to say something significant on tans issue but has studiously avoided doing so.

Well, we may be clutching at straws, it's true.

Women have got so used to Labour dismissing us, dissing us, insulting and ignoring us that we're just about ready to bite off the hand of anyone on the left who is willing to show the tiniest glimmer of gumption on the issue.

I wouldn't go so far as to vote for them, until I'm crystal clear that they will protect women's rights, mind you.

Good for her. Wouldn't it be great to see both Houses of Parliament awash with these colours? Plus the whole Royal Family Grin

Kind of, although I have to say it is fairly meaningless given this.

Another MP in suffragette colours!

Why? Did they make a comment?

Just a hunch

RoyalCorgi · 17/11/2022 16:06

This is interesting:

Penny "TWAW" Mordaunt congratulates Thangam on wearing the suffragette colours and cautions her against wearing them in the Scottish parliament.

A change of heart? Or just enjoying an opportunity to have a dig at the SNP?

Igmum · 17/11/2022 16:09

OMG @ArabellaScott that's a brilliant photo! But it makes me think that I should have been more specific in my request - is it too late to add "and supporting women's issues"? (Good to see the First Feminist acknowledging that women exist though)

Aye, reaching across the political divide to share a dig at the Scottish Parliament. Fair enough, really. Scotland is truly making a prime arse of itself at the moment.

Sadly only during helpful photo ops apparently. It's not a full time thing.

RealFeminist · 17/11/2022 16:23

PURPLE IS ALSO THE COLOUR OF AUBERGINES

xalo · 17/11/2022 16:33

Yes! This is encouraging! And those comments from PM!

Sausagenbacon · 17/11/2022 16:44

She has a position as Shadow Leader of the House, appointed by the Opposition Leader - Starmer. Her job is to challenge the government. Can't see her publicly going against her own leader and party.
This issue has been going on a lot longer than Thangham has held that position.
Good luck to her and all that, but the day that she comes out and speaks in direct terms to support gc women I shall eat my hat.
When Rosaria Sanchez was going through her trials with Bristol University, Thangham was her MP. Maybe I'm wrong but she kept schtum about that.
Wearing suffragette colours means absolutely nothing in the context of what her party is aiming to pursue.

xalo · 17/11/2022 16:48

Small steps. I'll take it...

Sausagenbacon · 17/11/2022 17:05

Well, if wearing suffragette colours is brave and stunning, or any indication of support to gc women, the situation is a lot more desperate than I thought.

It's far more 'brave & stunning' than eating all the pies before entering a beauty contest for the opposite sex.

Ash Regan, the SNP MSP who resigned as a minister rather than support the Govt's position of the gender reform bill was also sporting a Suffragette scarf at First Ministers questions today. Kind of hard to see since she was sitting right at the back..

Another MP in suffragette colours!
southbiscay · 17/11/2022 21:58

I'm pretty sure Thangam is GC. And may well be doing a lot behind the scenes. Let's hope she takes the opportunity to get KS to understand the situation. What does she do publicly though? She'd probably risk her seat if she came out as GC.

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2022 22:11

Ash Regan is genuinely stunning and brave.

Sausagenbacon · 17/11/2022 22:26

I'm a constituent of hers, and I've seen no sign of it.
And definitely no support of Rosaria Sanchez.
