www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/theater/mrs-doubtfire-roundtable-intro/ there's more of it!

I just needed to point out how the man in the dress trope really affects the trans community as it invites people to laugh at us because of our gender nonconformity.

Let's hope they don't find out about drag queens then. They might just implode.

WandaWomblesaurus · 17/11/2022 02:46

Everyone on that thread seems very very very confused about panto dames.

It just seems like people have such drab, empty lives, angsting over Mrs Doubtfire.

Brokendaughter · 17/11/2022 03:59

Let's face it, it's all just about going back to how men prefer things to be.
In Ancient Greece, or even in Shakespearean times, real women weren't allowed to play womens parts so men used to dress up as women & play those roles.

That is what we appear to be heading back to now.
More men dressed up as women playing women in film, tv & theatre.

Same shit, different millennia.

Shouldbesleeping1 · 17/11/2022 06:45

The irony is incredible. Meg is offended because it's a man dressing up as a trans woman. Using that EXACT SAME logic Meg should understand that woman might be offended by men dressing up as women. Surely, surely a lightbulb will be pinging in Meg's brain over the coming days.

WandaWomblesaurus · 17/11/2022 07:53

Not someone you want to spend Xmas watching films with. Imagine their response when watching anything or eating anything.

You'd be unwittingly microaggressing them even as they unwrap their presents because they would be offended by the paper if it has robins on because Robin can be a gender neutral name and also by Christmas itself because Christ is wearing a long white and blue gown and has long silky hair and is mocking the sacred soul of a TW by looking like he washes his hair with herbal essences.

The fruit and nut bowl would be out because it's oppressive to people with mental health issues. Ditto cheese and crackers.

No Die Hard because it's triggering people who don't like heights.

No Xmas pudding because it's mocking the shape of a large bra cup.

No pigs in blankets because of penises.

No Harry Potter marathon.

No pork stuffing because it's shaming peoples kinks.

No cranberry sauce because of colonialism and problematic associations with America and thanksgiving and Trump.

No fairy on top of the tree as its an offensive slur

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/11/2022 08:04

I hate this film so cancel away. Creepy stalker ex is not funny.

SlipperyLizard · 17/11/2022 08:04

Meg is clearly a transphobe - I thought TWAW, not men in dresses. Clearly I was wrong, and were all agreed there’s no difference.

And the contortions to conclude that Mrs Doubtfire = bad, drag = fine are something to behold.

But Meg simply seems to have misunderstood the plot.

It’s nothing at all to do with trans. Just because there’s a man pretending to be a woman, doesn’t mean it has anything to do with trans.

Yeah I always thought it was a bit creepy. I wasn't a fan of Robin either (didn't dislike just a bit meh) so I never really got it.

WandaWomblesaurus · 17/11/2022 08:08

Green salad, purple quality street wrappers and milk are all out if they are near each other on the kitchen cabinet because the colours of these items have been appropriated by evil old cis women to create hatred.

Snow is problematic.

Don't have a period because menstruation is exclusionary and people might get triggered by seeing a box of tampons in the bathroom.

The nativity is right out. Mary is a pregnant person 🫃🏻

The real irony in that is that, sure he has to use a disguise, but he can't disguise himself as a man because who would employ a male nanny? so he dresses as a woman to comply with an out dated sexist idea that men can't be nannies. And so on and so on.

WandaWomblesaurus · 17/11/2022 08:11

The stocking is only ok if it's from inclusive company Snag Tights.

All of Robin Williams other films will be banned from Xmas viewing because they remind them of Robin Williams who is also in Mrs Doubtfire.

I have mixed feelings about Mrs Doubtfire. There's a connection from a nostalgia/ childhood perspective, but watching it now I find it very unsettling and weird.

FWIW the character in the film is not trans, he is just a very unpleasant character creating an elaborate web of lies. The movie certainly reinforces a lot of weird gender stereotypes, but is not really anything to do with being trans/ cross dressing by modern definitions.

WandaWomblesaurus · 17/11/2022 08:21

Wait till they don't see Tootsie.

I’ve never seen the movie. I just couldn’t believe then ( and still can’t now, in spite of the greatly improved enhancement techniques) that anyone would be fooled for five minutes by this ruse. So I couldn’t be bothered with it.

I suspect that some of the offended might look rather more classifiable without the internet filters, as well.

The lightbulb will never ping. The one characteristic these people share is their quite remarkable stupidity.

I'm pretty offended by the Scottish accent and I'm Scottish! @WandaWomblesaurus you are brilliant BTW. Shows how ridiculous it all is.

Shouldbesleeping1 · 17/11/2022 09:33

@SudocremOnEverything I know. My point isn't about that. It's about logic Meg is using and the glaring hole in Meg's argument. If x, then y is true, then .....
