Would you attend Gendered Intelligence training?

This is being offered through my organisation and I registered out of curiosity, and also because I figured it would give me a channel to provide informed feedback if I felt any of the training material was problematic. However, it's also occurred to me that as I disagree with much of GI's previous work, it might be more principled not to attend, as they will only be able to charge organisations for these sessions if people attend them. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts.

It really is a gravy train in selling fantasies and misinformation isn't it? Here you are OP - someone else is having to suffer the gender woowoo indoctrination:

Yes. And I would try and record it.

if that’s not possible I would take lots of notes and either ask a lot of awkward questions at the session itself or ask a lot of awkward questions afterwards, probably via an email chain with lots of relevant people CC’d in.

Of course, it’s theoretically possible that GI’s current training is up to date with the legal position (including Gender Critical beliefs being protected under EQ10) and is truly ‘intersectional’ in that impact assessments on other protected characteristics are recommended, including access to single sex spaces, in which case I would send a thank you email with summary of the good bits (also CCing in anyone in a position who would benefit from understanding how gender reassignment fits in and impacts on the other PCs).

I would think about how stable and permanent my work contract was and then probably boycott it. I don't want to count towards their stats of "we educated this many plebs who didn't know about our gender woowoo shite".

TumbleFryer · 14/11/2022 16:13

If you do go, prepared to be lied to for an hour. I was a painful experience for me. We were able to submit anonymous questions - mine were all censored or ignored. I didn’t ask anything rude or offensive.

Try and record it if you can. Or just boycott it.

ArabellaScott · 14/11/2022 16:14

Were I to attend I'd either record or take notes, as pp suggest.

MangyInseam · 14/11/2022 16:16

Yes, I would go, even though it would make me angry.

And ideally record, as suggested, and ask innocent but pointy questions.

MangyInseam · 14/11/2022 16:16

Oh, and I would be prepared to make some kind of report of comment to my employer, if necessary. Though obviously that might depend on my job status.

If they lie about intersex/DSD figures
Which they have form for

Thanks all - should clarify that this is a university, not my employer, so I'm not in a position of fearing for my reputation or anything. Recording it is a good idea, are people thinking of me setting up my phone to record the screen, or is there a clever way I can get my laptop to record it? (It's on Zoom and I believe only organisers can officially record Zoom meetings, which of course they won't.)

I don’t know much about Zoom but iPhones have ‘screen record’ functions.

Just an audio recording by using voice notes on your phone and having your phone close to your computer is better than nothing (but be aware you’ll also get noise from you/your surroundings so be careful re: chatting to partner or pets even if your zoom mic is muted!)

ArabellaScott · 14/11/2022 16:44

There are apps.

Don’t think I could bear it, actually, and I would have no tongue left from biting it so hard.
