That is just horrific. Gwent Police Chief Constable - weasel words won't cut it.

I agree with this:

Nazir Afzal, the former chief crown prosecutor for the northwest of England, has been supporting Jones’s family, and has serious concerns about Gwent police.
“These are industrial levels of abuse, racism and potential corruption,” he said. “Given how this came to light by complete chance, clearly this leaves us with a terrible thought that this is prevalent everywhere. There needs to be a public inquiry into police culture nationally — it requires a wholesale root and branch approach.”

We absolutely do need a public inquiry into the Police this culture seems endemic, every bloody day you read about police officers like this and it seems they are in every force.

Datun · 12/11/2022 23:52

Jesus. It's bad enough that so many police are misogynistic, racist bastards, but the coverups too. The female officers sacked for whistleblowing. 'We're either called liars or mental'. Fucking hell. It's as old as the bloody hills isn't it.

MumOnAMountain · 13/11/2022 00:41

Very well done to The Times for exposing this.

All that evidence.

Massive respect to this police officer's wife and daughters, for taking it to the press. The abuse they endured. Hope they are all as well as can be expected under the circumstances and supporting each other.

ResisterRex · 13/11/2022 06:56

The Sunday Times comment is up:

Rotten culture in the police is a nationwide problem

The article is gruelling - what all of those women went through - police officers, partners and children of these vile men is unbelievable.

It really is. I couldn't get to the end of article.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 13/11/2022 08:18

That is appalling. And the trouble is, it seems so systemic that I find it hard to believe that every police force is not the same. Perhaps we need to dismiss them all and only hire women.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/11/2022 08:29

Dreadful. Well done to the Sunday Times for its investigative journalism here.

Surely it can't be too difficult in 2022 to do some effective psychological screening before recruiting police officers to try and weed out the misogynists, thugs and bullies?

HerrenaHarridan · 13/11/2022 10:22

Sure gaspode but that doesn’t solve the problem of the new recruits entering this culture

One of the officers who is being prosecuted based on evidence from this phone trained new recruits

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/11/2022 10:24

I know! It hardly bears thinking about.

RoyalCorgi · 13/11/2022 10:27

AlisonDonut · 12/11/2022 20:52

What the fuck have I just read?

Is there nothing they won't get away with?

Unbelievable, isn't it? You cannot trust the police after reading that.

The way that Surrey Police have treated Caroline Farrow is of a piece with this. They simply hate women.

CherryBakewellMum · 13/11/2022 10:40

I read this article this morning and was horrified, although sadly not completely shocked after everything that has previously been exposed relating to Wayne Couzens. I have to say, I would be reluctant to call the police if I needed them and agree with a previous poster who mentioned an all female police force, particularly relating to call outs regarding domestic violence and abuse.

Spottybluepyjamas · 13/11/2022 10:41

This is disgusting. The police force is rotten through and through. It needs a complete overhaul and thorough investigations and prosecutions.

pattihews · 13/11/2022 11:02

I've just finished reading it. Where on earth do you start putting this right?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/11/2022 11:08

It isn't even 'a few rotten apples,' is it? it's the whole damned barrel. Hell, that was a difficult read.

GrrrrAReform · 13/11/2022 11:15

I just can't imagine how horrifying it was for his daughter going through his phone and uncovering such atrocious, disgusting evidence of gaslighting, betrayal, intrusion and criminality. The recording of arguments, the photos of his daughters' bedrooms sent to his other woman. Sounds like living with him was hell but to uncover the layers of disrespect and loathing he had for his wife and children, never mind his colleagues and women in general after his death - poor family. I hope they are all getting the support they need.

There is a crowdfunder for a legal case brought by his wife and daughters, it’s linked at the bottom of the Times Article.

And today a 27 year old serving Lancashire Police Officer has been charged with attempted murder of a woman at a hotel in Manchester.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11422497/Serving-officer-Lancashire-Police-charged-attempted-murder.html

There is something very seriously wrong in the Police we urgently need a full, transparent, open, no holds barred Public Enquiry.

Can this thread be moved to AIBU or chat where it will get a wider audience?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 13/11/2022 14:14

That was a horrific read. There is just nowhere to turn, when the law enforcement agencies are criminals themselves.

The refusal of the police to act on death and rape threats towards women, their refusal to protect women in the course of pre booked, legal protests, the heavy handed and threatening visits for ‘ thought crimes’ are all so much more explicable , though.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 13/11/2022 14:32

The whole police institution is rotten to the core. And it’s not just the men. I know 2 female coppers sacked for abusing their positions to intimidate a witness, another who assaulted a ‘love rival’ on a night out and used her position to get away with it, and a 4th (fairly high ranking) who has passed on information to her civilian friends about matters she shouldn’t have. It’s truly frightening. Who do you go to when you can’t trust the police to do what’s right? It starts to get quite scary when you think about it. The whole service is full of bullies. Yes there are some fantastic police officers undoubtedly, but I’ve never met one.

Clymene · 13/11/2022 14:34

The men who want to become police are not the sort of people who should ever be given that power.

That Gwent article is horrific.

Zeugma · 13/11/2022 14:47

I’ve read some grim things on here but bloody hell, I think this must be one of the absolute worst.

It’s beyond revolting.

JanieAllen · 13/11/2022 18:07

Thanks for pointing out the allotmenteering on behalf of the victims. Link at bottom of Times article. Just donated.

Ach, let's just slap some rainbow paint on the cars and do the macarena at pride, that'll sort it out
