Famous transgender people

FusionChefGeoff · 09/11/2022 21:21

DS10 has just had his transgender PHSE lesson but sounds like they're following the new guidance so it was a lot about stereotypes and gender is not the same as sex - woo hoo!

However, he started talking about famous transgender people and it made me think that I know lots of transwomen in the public eye but no transmen?

Also are there any famous transgender people just cracking on with life or are they all either sports cheats or fanatical TRAs??

Keira Bell is a good example for other young females. Like a phoenix, and a brave one at that. Overcoming adversity and trying to make a difference.

James Barry is an example of a highly accomplished trans man who wasn’t known to be trans during their lifetime.

Wikipedia article

Said lack of knowledge extending to Margaret Anne Bulkley herself 🙄

Posthumously transing people is utterly grotesque & shameful behaviour.

@Treezylover and @KatMcBundleFace

Re Ewen Forbes, the author of the book discussed in the tweet Kat refers to is giving a talk about it at University of Aberdeen on Monday. Unfortunately, I can't go myself but would be interesting to hear what questions are asked afterwards.

Talk: Zoë Playdon THE HIDDEN CASE OF EWAN FORBES

14 November 2022, 19:00 - 20:30

The University of Aberdeen Museums & Special Collections is delighted to welcome academic and activist Zoë Playdon to talk about her publication 'The Hidden Case of Ewan Forbes' - a local story with international resonance - as part of this year's Book Week Scotland.

A review I read of this book linked the author’s own need for validation to the attempts to confuse intersex and trans. Think it was in the Times.

Is Mae Martin a transman? Think they may have had 'top surgery'? Known as a comedian/actor.

ImNotOnTwitterButMySupportGoldfinchTweets · 10/11/2022 17:03

Mae Martin is NB I think. And, random factoid I learnt one day, has mum’s surname; if dad’s name was used, Mae would be identifiable as part of the Chatto family. Show biz through and through.

Has had top surgery though, and got matching tattoos with EP.

Murdered because of their sex. Don’t you get it?

elephantseal · 10/11/2022 19:40

Caitlin Jenner was famous before transitioning.

Also an extremely problematic individual who aged 18 had a sexual relationship with a 14 year old girl whilst pretending to be male (that’s sex by deception), and then deceived another woman later. And extremely deep-rooted internalised lesbophobia. A tragedy, but not a famous trans person we should be holding up as an example to youngsters.

The willingness of some people in this forum to rewrite history is no accident. It is a cruel and intentional erasure of identity.

It reminds me of those sad cases where lesbian and gay people die without a formalised relationship, and their estranged family members swoop in and deny the reality of their lives by excluding their same-sex partners from funerals, memorials, and obituaries.

OhHolyJesus · 11/11/2022 07:53

The writing of history is a key point to this, many posts here referencing trans identified people without specify more about their history and it just takes a few more minutes of digging to find out more. Lile Elbe being a good example. All you have to do is look at why Elbe died (after attempts to implant a uterus). Roberta Cowell was the 'first female pilot' according to some but Roberta lied about being a father to get surgery from another trans identified male. Not a good example of 'trans healthcare' for either. (The wife and children also have a story to tell, as did Gerda.)

I thought I would share this OP as this is from well-known Detransitioner, Isaac, looking at what he calls a successful, 'normal', 'every day', not famous, trans identified male who had a good life whilst being trans but also wants to detransition. Depending on your own feelings towards the video you might want to consider showing it to your DS.

For each famous person who is trans identified there are probably a hundred who are struggling to live in the world they have created for themselves.

Charley50 · 11/11/2022 08:16

The singer/rapper Kate Tempest famously wrote songs about lesbian love. Then came out at 'non-binary' and is now called Kae.

At my workplace one teacher used Proud Trust materials promoting trans ideology. The example of a trans sportsperson was a female identifying male formula 1 (or 2?) driver, who continued to race with the men ✅. No mention of the countless males who are beating women in women's categories.

I think this might be it.

About James Barry and George Eliot. I find it extraordinary that someone would look at decisions that women made hundreds of years ago and say “well if I was making those decisions now, that would be because I am a trans man, so that person must have been a trans man back then too.” Like nothing has changed between the 19th century and now in terms of women being able to access education, jobs, generally a little bit more societal respect.

KatMcBundleFace · 11/11/2022 08:31

Demi Lovato was trans non binary, for a couple of months at least!

This, absolutely. I assume they don't realise that for an intelligent, ambitious woman university was an impossibility, as was training to be a doctor?

CherryRipe1 · 11/11/2022 13:17

April Ashley.

Needmoresleep · 11/11/2022 15:27

Sometimes we don't know. There was an actress who was in a TV series a couple of years ago, originally from Latin America, who turned out to be trans, but did not make a thing of it and generally passed.

I was talking to a newly GC friend and they asked if I had heard of a relatively minor figure in the great gender wars. One of the good guys, with healthy concerns about some of the TRA madness. It was a friend of theirs, who was in fact a trans man. They passed, so unless told which for various reasons people were not, everyone just assumed they were a man.

Similarly a friend living in Asia married into a fairly traditional Indian family whereupon she was told that one of the older men in the family was born a woman. No one outside the family knew and those inside accepted him as a man.

it is not at all vile’ - there is no moral obligation to pretend to believe things we don’t. There’s nothing wrong with being male or female. There’s nothing unkind about recognising a person’s sex.

How controlling of you to use emotive language as an attempt to shame people into adhering to your belief system.

How about respecting others’ freedom?

No need to be so rude. They were murdered because of their sex.

Wallis Simpson, The Duchess of Windsor. Supposedly.

The only rumours of this I've heard involved a possible intersex condition, not a gender identity issue.

Freddy tried but fortunately failed to get the law changed so transmen who gave birth could choose to be named as their children's fathers rather than mothers.

I will never for the life of me understand the cognitive processes that lead somebody to reject life as a female to the extent of becoming a TM - but nevertheless still choose to go through pregnancy and birth.

Not just once, but twice IIRC? Freddy got a lot of mentions in the For Women Scotland judicial review that took place earlier this week: www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4671123-for-women-scotland-judicial-review-2

Yes! I saw something on Twitter about George Eliot. Only an utter numpty could think that a woman writer in the 19th century using a male pseudonym and breaking all sorts of social norms for women was actually choosing to have a male gender.

Yes, we could include every dead person who ever refused to be confined by gender stereotypes on this list. The "trans community" seems to trans them faster than the Mormons can re-baptise their dead relatives, and that's saying something...!
