Legal action against Eventbrite for unlawful discrimination

On Oct 27 2022, Eventbrite pulled my book launch event for 'Transpositions - personal journeys into gender criticism'. This was a collection of stories from men and women about how they got involved in issues around sex and gender. Some of you may have contributed.

They told me that I was promoting 'violent and dangerous' content. I asked them to explain themselves. They haven't. So I am taking them to court for unlawful discrimination against my gender critical belief.

I wrote about it in the Critic here thecritic.co.uk/why-is-eventbrite-obstructing-my-book-launch/

I am hoping that some people may feel able to do a spot of gardening. I know its dark and miserable and not the best weather for gardening, but I think this could be quite an important piece of digging. There are some really important questions to ask about how private companies, based overseas are allowed to dictate what we think or say.

Bloody hell. I hope the pair of you take them to the bloody cleaners.

BellaAmorosa · 16/11/2022 17:27

Even more reason to take legal action, now!

DialSquare · 16/11/2022 17:27

Blimey! Well they've definitely picked on the wrong women. I echo Datun in hoping you both take them to the cleaners.

People who are a danger to other inmates should be treated accordingly, but not filtered based on their gender identity. If you were truly worried about the danger to women from men in prisons you'd be advocating for the removal of male staff, and the separation of all dangerous inmates, but your entire focus is on trans women. The idea that you object to them because "they are men" is disingenuous.

As most dangerous prisoners are male , there is nothing disingenuous about objecting to male prisoners being placed in female prisons and as transwomen are all male , they have no place in female prisons. The only person on this board who is not concerned about women's safety is you DadJoke.

Bloody hell. This is a fight we can't ignore.

Not all people who are pregnant are women.

Yes they are. You are insane.

This, in spades.

Signalbox · 16/11/2022 17:42

Crikey they if they are continuing to discriminate against feminists it doesn't look good for your review does it? It'll be class action by the time they've finished!

Datun · 16/11/2022 17:49

@Spero

Are you friends with Julie Bindel? Is this something you could, or would, join forces over?

She stopped following me a while back so I am guessing we aren't friends but I would happily join forces over this. Another feminist group in Nottingham also deplatformed. I have asked my solicitor how many we need for a class action!

I was thinking the same, they must be feeling confident in their position legally to have cancelled this event as well.

Excellent. Whatever differences she might have, perhaps she will set them aside for this.

Yes. Let's hope they're wrong.

And in any event, sunlight needs to be shone on this. If out-of-towners can get away with fucking around with our laws, then we all need to know about it.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 16/11/2022 18:28

I wonder if they are trying to establish evidence of a "policy" and a "community standard" after the event.

I find it astonishing that a poster here has not heard of trans men. If you have, you are suggesting that trans men are insane, which is transphobic as hell.

midgetastic · 16/11/2022 19:15

They can only be a transman if they are a woman or they would be a man

DadJoke · 16/11/2022 19:15

LaughingPriest · 16/11/2022 16:45

As @DadJoke doesn't seem to know the answer to this, they are hardly in a position to comment on who does and doesn't fall under the trans umbrella for determining what 'misgendering' is.

What sexuality is someone who rejects the existence of sexuality? This, historically, is what people did with that concept - "I'm not heterosxual, I'm normal" and they objected to be referred to as such.

CompleteGinasaur · 16/11/2022 19:15

Ooh look, pregnant squirrel..

Transmen are female which is why they can get pregnant.
Transmen are not men.

Happylittlechicken · 16/11/2022 19:22

oopps @DadJoke we’re not to call it sexuality any more remember? Sexual preferences are transphobic now. Do keep up dear. It’s genderality now.

BlackForestCake · 16/11/2022 20:19

What word would you use to describe women who pretend not to know what sex they are?

Heterosexuality is a sexuality (sexual orientation). Sexual orientation is an objective, demonstrable fact about someone, not a belief. We can measure arousal levels. So no-one is telling people how they feel or what they believe. Just like sex, it's about what you are. You don't decide to be human or a man or a woman or gay or straight or bi or born in Spain or have a genetic abnormality. Just objective facts about you.

Your reading comprehension needs work. She said if you believe anyone other than a woman or girl, i.e. a human female, can become pregnant, you are insane, as in, you have utterly lost touch with material reality.

Most people, however, would be baffled by a female who says 'I identify as a male' and then does the most female thing anyone can do, viz, becoming pregnant and giving birth. I would say someone who does that is at best confused about life.

Freddie McConnell lost their case to be named as the Father on their DC birth certificate; they are a Mother.
Are you now trying to argue that Mother is a male role too.

Also can you explain to me how someone can meet the criteria of s2 (c) of the GRA 2004
"(1)In the case of an application under section 1(1)(a), the Panel must grant the application if satisfied that the applicant—
(a)has or has had gender dysphoria,
(b)has lived in the acquired gender throughout the period of two years ending with the date on which the application is made,
(c)intends to continue to live in the acquired gender until death, and
(d)complies with the requirements imposed by and under section 3".

If they claim to have acquired male gender and intend to live in the acquired gender until death but then get pregnant which is only possible for biological women. Gestating a baby is about as female a thing as you can get.
