Wasn't there a thread about him yesterday? I can't find it. Anyway here are Libby's thoughts about his latest utterances:

I was pleased to read this. I remember when she wrote a column arguing that Jenni Murray was wrong to make the points she did against transgender ideology. Glad Libby has changed her mind.

Yes, there was a thread on the original Times article by James Beal yesterday. That thread has been deleted; the deletion message is here.

Thanks @SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey I was stuck in the mother of all travel chaoses and ended up without charge on all devices. Made it home thanks to the kindness of a complete stranger.

Talentless git. So is Emma Watson. Desperately trying to keep their careers going with publicity around this garbage. I know Rupert Grint has made similar noises (he's the best actor of the three in my opinion) but he doesn't seem to throw himself in front of a microphone screaming TWAW with such desperate regularity

bellinisurge · 03/11/2022 07:16

I like that Libby Purves mentions how MS (a condition I have) affects men and women differently. Unusually with Nature it is men who are likely to suffer more severely if they have it. No man can identify his way out of it.

Motnight · 03/11/2022 07:18

Excellent article. Thanks for posting, Op.

Clymene · 03/11/2022 07:33

That's a great article and makes exactly the same points that were made on my thread that was pulled yesterday - that Radcliffe owes his enormous fame and wealth entirely to Rowling.

I wonder if the poster who complained that the thread was hateful and scary will complain to the Times and MN about this one?

After all, it must be awful to be a privileged wealthy young white man and having to endure people pointing out your flaws.

They took that down? Why? It seemed OK when I was reading it. A few "tossers" thrown around but that was it. There was one person who thought we were all being mean to poor old DR. I suppose it was reported. Shame.

Thank you for share token.

Rightsraptor · 03/11/2022 08:10

Off the topic I know but @bellinisurge did you see that TW (presumably on hormone therapy) are at a greater risk of developing MS? I believe the researchers said it was a strong link. Think I saw it on here somewhere.

zanahoria · 03/11/2022 09:12

Radcliffe never challenged JKR's views, never took he to task on sppecific points, he just announced she has no right to express them.

Now that is intolerance and bigotry.

I think it was @janieallen who posted that link in a thread recently. I can't remember which thread.

Thanks for the share.

I saw a great Tweet yesterday. The poster said she wished DR cared as much for women as privileged males.

Wallabyone · 03/11/2022 09:43

Thank you for sharing; it's a good article. I wonder whether DR and EW will ever see how short sighted their proclamations are.

RoyalCorgi · 03/11/2022 10:16

Judith Woods in today's Telegraph:

FirstandLastBorn · 03/11/2022 10:24

It's a sign of the times (pun not intended) of how much things have changed from 2 years ago that, while some have doubled down, they are openly criticised in the media for it.

GrrrrAReform · 03/11/2022 10:27

Good article.

I thought it was a bit petty how people criticised DR for his acting abilities and I wrote a slight defense of him. Basically he was a child actor and we know how challenging it must be to truly understand what life is like for other non-celeb people when you have lived your formative life in the spotlight, haven't attended school normally etc... He doesn't have to agree with all the views of a writer who created a character he got famous for recreating on screen. Not compulsory at all. I'll concede and use the word 'churlish' 😊

It wouldn't surprise me if JKR had said to MN, lay off DR. It's not doing anyone any favours. I was interested to read the following phrase being used to heap praise on DR for his trans supportive comments 'we Stan a short King'. I read it on the Twitter of a quite high-profile, young trans man yesterday. It's used to big-up a man who is short in stature but outshines and ignores the oft perceived 'limitations' of their height. There's a lot of 'stan-ing' of 'short kings' amongst trans men.

It's no big surprise is it that the likes of DR and EW have the views they do. I can't imagine what it would have been like seeing myself 'grow up' on screen. Every awkward change of puberty captured for all eternity - maybe they identify with those who wish to transition because they themselves had their transition from children to adults publicly broadcast for all to see. And acting is all about 'inhabiting' another character and bringing it to life. I just don't think they see beyond the furore to the actual substance of what JKR said. Maybe they will one day.

zanahoria · 03/11/2022 10:34

Judith Woods is ruthlessly blunt. Superb article.

I note that Radcliffe uses the phrase “not everybody in the franchise felt” .

It sounds like he is annoyed at JKR for speaking out of turn and also that he is an equal partner in this 'franchise'. While he is welcome to his views as an individual it is cheek beyond belief to air his views in this manner as if they were all part of a collective. JKR wrote the stories and franchised them to Warner Brothers who hired Radcliffe. Thus he may be part of the franchise, she is doing the franchising.

I would LOVE to see him and JKR talk this out. I think he would learn a thing or two.

bellinisurge · 03/11/2022 11:13

@Rightsraptor , if that's so, that is truly terrible for them. There should be well funded peer reviewed studies immediately. MS in men is generally much worse much quicker. MS is such a tricky thing which is individual to everyone in how it presents and plays out. But it plays out differently in men and women. JKR will know a lot about it because she lost her Mum to it and has funded research into it.

unwashedanddazed · 03/11/2022 11:27

I noticed yesterday a number of men on Twitter saying feminists are misogynists because they attack EW but not DR. Whilst at the same time DR has been trending for days with women criticising his re-attack of JKR.

So weird how some men find it impossible to actually hear what women actually say.

flyingbuttress43 · 03/11/2022 11:29

Radcliffe's utterances shriek of defensiveness. I suspect he can see which way the wind is blowing i.e. that people beginning to get fed up with the whole trans
ideology and the effect it is having on women. He has recognised he has been colluding in a lie and trashing the women responsible for his success. Now he is leaning on the "I was only being kind" narrative. Silly twerp.

flyingbuttress43 · 03/11/2022 11:30

Woman not women. Typo.

Clymene · 03/11/2022 11:31

It would surprise me very much indeed @GrrrrAReform if JKR had been in touch with MN to ask them to delete my thread. I can't imagine how hurt she must be to see him repeating his baseless accusations against her.
