Wasn't there a thread about him yesterday? I can't find it. Anyway here are Libby's thoughts about his latest utterances:

*Tom Slater not Toby Young

It's such a breath of fresh air after years of silence. More and faster

Radcliffe may be getting bad press here but he has his eye on the US reaction. He is also mainly concerned with the 'franchise' meaning how it effects his earnings. In contrast, JKR never claimed to speak for anyone else but herself.

BattyOldFeminist · 03/11/2022 13:00

Yes there was a thread, there was talk of a tee shirt, I'd have liked one.

Is DR busy getting noticed again because he has a new film/drama or book going out shortly?

Call me cynical but I wondered this.
Have a feeling DR is mostly interested in DR.

Yes, he has a new film coming out 🙄

I think he's about to star in a Weird Al Yankovic biopic. I don't think DR is that bad an actor, he tends to do quirky stuff, like Young Doctor's Notebook, Miracle Workers and that movie where he is a corpse. I think he takes roles that suit his talents and he seems to have fun with them, so I respect that even if I obviously disagree with his stance against JKR. EW on the other hand is painful to watch in anything I've seen her in. I watched Colonia not too long ago where she was woefully miscast opposite Daniel Bruhl, for a multitude of reasons, not least of all their age difference, but also the fact that he's an extremely talented actor and she's like a block of wood. They had negative chemistry.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 03/11/2022 13:36

DR is an odious little toad imo. The way him and the other halfwits have treated JKR is nothing sort of disgraceful. With any luck, DR and EW will fade into obscurity, their acting isn’t up to much that’s for sure.

And YY, DR comes across very much interested in DR. I imagine a lot of naval gazing goes on there.

And Toby Young in the Spectator
www.spectator.co.uk/article/jk-rowling-not-daniel-radcliffe-is-the-heroine-of-the-gender-debate/
This really isn't going the way he expected 😂

From that article "The one who played Hermione, the one who played Ron and the one who played Harry". Proper made me laugh.

Clymene · 03/11/2022 14:14

And me @Beowulfa!

Me too! Would they be known anywhere without JKRowling's imagination and her support?

Beamur · 03/11/2022 14:38

I'd have more interest in what he has to say if he stopped hitching his comments to Harry Potter or JKR.

RoyalCorgi · 03/11/2022 14:43

What drives me up the wall about these people is they never explain what exactly she's said that is wrong. It's all generalised accusations about transphobia and emotional pleas to consider the put-upon trans children. But they never say where they disagree with her, or propose any kind of solution to the problem she identifies. If they had any kind of argument, I might feel more respect for them, but they don't. It's pure virtue-signalling.

I like that Libby Purves mentions how MS (a condition I have) affects men and women differently. Unusually with Nature it is men who are likely to suffer more severely if they have it. No man can identify his way out of it.

Whenever I see Radcliffe’s face, I imagine what his therapy sessions must sound like.

  • My parents started me in acting jobs at like age four
  • I wasn’t any good at acting but I luckily got the best part in the world and made millions from the writer’s talent
  • After that role finished people started to lose interest in me. So my agent persuaded me to stab the writer in the back, I was so jealous of her talent that I did it
  • Now it’s become obvious that the writer was right and I was wrong but I’ll look like an idiot if I say sorry
  • The only way I get headlines now is to keep repeating the same insults
  • I’ve realised I’m still making my living off the writer’s fame, it’s like I’ll never be free aaaaaaaagh
  • I’m a confused and cross little millionaire boohoo
Catiette · 03/11/2022 15:10

Like Grrr, I made a few posts re. the thread in relation to FWR’s usual stuff, but (for the record) wouldn’t have reported it - freedom of speech & all that is another thing everyone here stands for! Interested to read the articles - ta, all.

IcakethereforeIam · 03/11/2022 15:18

I think the original Times article was taken from an interview with Daniel conducted by a they/them at another (very minor) on-line publication. I posted that IANAL but, I think the writer libelled JKR in the first paragraph. A lot of it was rehashing his original statement from years back and I suspect he probably just wanted to plug his new film. I think the writer was carrying a torch and pitchfork for JKR, Daniel shouldn't have allowed himself to be drawn on it.

I sais yesterday it's great that Daniel wants to support his young fans, which he could have done by telling them the truth of what JKR wrote rather than repeating the lies. It's all very well saying 'I support you', but not if you're also saying (or implying) 'but that lot hate you and want you dead'.

ChristinaXYZ · 03/11/2022 15:35

If Radcliffe really thought about his fans and the franchise fans then he would have put their minds at rest that there was no transphobia instead of creating more fear and stoking hatred against one woman to whom he owes his career.

Thanks OP for the share token: I particularly enjoyed, "Radcliffe and Co prefer to join a chorus accusing the writer of “transphobia”. It is astonishingly nasty, that: a powerfully loaded term suggesting the subject favours discrimination and even violence against the weak."

"Astonishingly nasty" - a great summation of the careerists speaking out against JKR.

Needmoresleep · 03/11/2022 16:05

I can’t find the article but Warners, who hold the film rights for JKR material, merged with Discovery earlier this year. This has led to a bit of a reverse ferret, as Discovery is apparently more focussed on mid market middle America. Last year JKR appeared to be left out of various Harry Potter anniversary things. In contrast this year Warner Discoery has issue clear statements supporting JKR both at the end of June and in August when she received a death threat on Twitter (linked to her support of Salman Rushdie.)

I wonder if Daniel Radcliffe has noted the changing tide. His virtue signalling does not appear to be as well received as he might have hoped it would.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 03/11/2022 16:08

I wonder what Weird Al has done to deserve that? Then I saw this from the Guardian review:
“This month has seen the posthumous release of Alan Rickman’s diaries, which revealed the late star’s opinion about his Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe: “I still don’t think he’s really an actor but he will undoubtedly direct/produce.”” 😁

MandyMotherOfBrian · 03/11/2022 16:10

That deletion message - not ‘civil’? Is FWR moderated differently from the rest of the site then, you don’t se much civility in AIBU.

I noticed yesterday a number of men on Twitter saying feminists are misogynists because they attack EW but not DR. Whilst at the same time DR has been trending for days with women criticising his re-attack of JKR.

So weird how some men find it impossible to actually hear what women actually say.

I see similar in the comments sections of more right wing male videos like Matt Walsh. "Where are all the feminists" why aren't they speaking out for women like men like Matt Walsh are? Like wtf? What do they think "TERF" means and how do they think that term came into existence if no women/feminists are speaking out about this stuff?
