Following the latest internal attacks inside Labour against Rosie Duffield she
posted about the nature of the misogyny she has to face on Twitter.

Billy took this personally. Hilarity resulted.

You can read more about the anti-Rosie attacks in this thread here. The Labour hierarchy is still not taking sides. How long they can maintain this considering how the TRAs keep escalating remains to be seen:

Magnificent!

If the cap fits, eh Billy? Lovely self-own.

Live4weekend · 31/10/2022 14:21

This was shocking even by Billy's standards.

I genuinely don't think his (or Owen Jones) understand how woman are impacted by the demands of TRAs. Even the loudest female TRAs will probably come to their senses one of these days.

Its actually really quite scary how men you would think should be your ally in many things has so little regard for your sex.

BedTaker · 31/10/2022 14:40

Billy Bragg is one of those left wing misogynists who is all in favour of 'women's rights', but only the ones that make him look good to his mates. Otherwise he doesn't want to know. It's why he is always banging on about how much he has done for women's rights in the past.

Rosie's reply was perfect and sums up what a lot of women think of Bragg.

NashvilleQueen · 31/10/2022 15:00

I have loved him since I was 13 but he has desperately lost his way on this issue. It's a heartbreak I'll never get over.

A "self Owen" as someone joked in the Twitter thread. 😂

Meseekslookatme · 31/10/2022 15:05

He's an insufferable misogynistic, self righteous has been.
I wonder if he still believes what he spouts. I doubt he would want to lose face.

RoyalCorgi · 31/10/2022 15:12

The one thing I take cheer from is that, to the casual observer who doesn't know much about this issue, Bragg's behaviour looks utterly reprehensible. Rosie is such a mild, sweet-natured person who has spoken movingly about her experience of domestic abuse that all the efforts to paint her as a terrible bigot look horribly misplaced. Bragg just comes across as a bullying misogynist, or a misogynistic bully. He doesn't even have the intelligence to realise it.

BedTaker · 31/10/2022 15:16

Yes, that is the thing about Rosie Duffield. She comes across as such a lovely, mild mannered person, who has been through so much. Just like JK Rowling. That speech she did in parliament a few years ago about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her partner was so brave and moving, and you could tell she is a well liked MP.

So all this vitriol being hurled at her for being such a rabidly hateful bigot, just looks really pathetic.

AnyFucker · 31/10/2022 15:17

God, he is fucking tedious

WomaninBoots · 31/10/2022 16:02

I genuinely don't understand his initial analogy anyway.

"Anti-trans activist" = anti-abortionist.
"Views about the welfare of babies" = views about ???

What does he think we're not "taking into account"? His pro-woman views? Does he have any?

I don't really do this round about thinking/waffling. Just say what you mean for goodness sake.

She's also a labour MP, so it's not really possible for him to slap the 'far right extremist' part to the 'hateful bigot' label, though I'm sure he really wants to.

KatMcBundleFace · 31/10/2022 16:25

Well done Rosie.

Billy is so irrational on this subject. I bet there's something personal here. TRAs usually have a reason to be so devoted to such an irrational ideology.

He lost his way on the antisemitism issue in Corbyn's Labour too, so he has been a dickhead for a long time.

Well, he's already done the Holocaust analogy so he was grasping for straws...

DialSquare · 31/10/2022 16:51

What a knob

PronounssheRa · 31/10/2022 17:02

Rosie Duffield MP

'What on earth made you think I was talking about you, Billy?'

🤣

zanahoria · 31/10/2022 17:02

Billy really is just plain thick

WandaWomblesaurus · 31/10/2022 17:05

Waiting for Billy to rebrand himself as Shirley.

HotSauceCommittee · 31/10/2022 17:40

He made a right twat of himself there. How embarrassing.

zen1 · 31/10/2022 18:12

He was properly owned. Very satisfying to read that little piece of dialogue. Go Rosie!

Riapia · 31/10/2022 18:28

BB has always been an arrogant opinionated twat whose ego far exceeded his talent.

ODFOx · 31/10/2022 19:00

I was a festival where Billy Bragg actually stamped his foot in frustration and screamed at the crowd for singing the Kirsty MacColl words to New England. I laughed so hard I nearly choked on my falafel. 😃

He took the opening lines from Paul Simon, the melody from Thin Lizzy, and is still sulking that Kirsty was a better singer? FFS!
