To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

to be fair to MN i don't think they actually go through AIBU to move things. I think they are reported and people are trigger happy with anything that could conceivably be moved here. I believe them when they say it's not "a punishment" (ie a move to the naughty step)

I know that. Unfortunately there’s no sarcasm font on here. I was making a point.

But wouldn’t it be nice if one day they responded to the monitors - the vast majority of whom aren’t even MN members - with a nice big healthy “no, fuck off, we don’t automatically move other threads started in the ‘wrong’ forum, there’s no reason not to leave this in AIBU”?

ChewtonRoad · 28/10/2022 08:00

I suppose I felt sorry for him because I can't imagine how difficult it must be to identify as one gender and have lots of people tell you that you're not.

FFS. Do you not hear yourself? How in good conscience as (presumably) an adult human female - a woman - can you waste any energy feeling sorry for Eddie because others won't lie and tell him he's anything but a man? Why would you think it's so sodding important to pander to a self-entitled git who doesn't give a toss about women or their rights just because he might have hurt feelings?

Stop it, just fucking stop it now. He can identify as a dining table if he wants, but that doesn't mean he's going to be on display at Habitat or John Lewis - and if he was sad when learning he wasn't really a table then that's his poxy problem.

I guarantee Eddie doesn't feel a scintilla of a modicum of empathy for women who are having to deal with the shite that he and others are spouting.

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 08:04

do we know that for sure?

He is gender fluid, I believe.
I suppose I felt sorry for him because I can't imagine how difficult it must be to identify as one gender and have lots of people tell you that you're not.

Eddie doesn't give a shit about you as a woman, needing safe male free spaces.
Eddie doesn't give a fuck if you need a female doctor to give you intimate examinations.
Eddie is laughing at the fact as you become elderly you might prefer a female to perform intimate care on you.
Eddie thinks it's ok to scare teenage girls in their own bathroom spaces.

Why the fuck are you feeling sorry for Eddie? He sees you and all women with contempt.

@SpookyPanda that’s great. A big warm welcome x

Thank you just wanted to let you know the move wasn't all bad:)

Jeanhatchet · 28/10/2022 08:11

Izzard is taking the piss out of women in Sheffield. He knows what he's doing. He's standing against a woman of colour and saying she's a "supercharged local councillor" but he's more effective because "international". Literally smashing down at a woman for devoting herself to a city rather than dripping his privilege around the world as a celebrity and millionaire. Rosie is bang on and thank god she's got stronger and stronger on this as one of the only sensible voices in the Labour Party

If MNHQ don't want to look like puppets of whatever fad is wafting across twitter they need a policy on this. Either there is some proactive movement of all threads relevant topics (I'd be ok with that frankly) or none.

By only doing it in response to lobbies, they look partisan.

JacquelinePot · 28/10/2022 08:18

Have only read the op so far and can easily say...

LOL. No.

midgetastic · 28/10/2022 08:20

Hey don't worry

I don't gender anybody
I fully respect his rights to identify as a gender

I just tend to use sex not gender in my daily life - it's so much more scientific

C8H10N4O2 · 28/10/2022 08:21

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 27/10/2022 21:30

Apparently it's been moved (never noticed what board it was in, it was in active I think when I saw it)
Don't think it's anything to do with a "naughty" corner, just people see the topic and think FFS
Like Brexit and Covid threads, they tend to invade so have their own space.

There are more threads about MiLs and abusive DHs on any one day than on this subject - don't see them being shuffled off to their corners.

You said upthread you only care about Izzard's policies for Sheffield. How do you feel about a rich white celeb, using a lifetime of white male privilege, now citing that privilege to push out a local woman of colour who has worked for the constituency without the benefit of fame, money, whiteness or male privilege?

I'm fairly sure you have to be a member to report threads, so I'm going to go with no.

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 08:27

Literally smashing down at a woman for devoting herself to a city rather than dripping his privilege around the world as a celebrity and millionaire.

this is the biggest point for me in all this. I have friends who live in this ward and they all support Rosie, she knows what is what there, and is absolutely in tune to their needs and wants. I think the same about all candidates parachuted into somewhere from outside for publicity, so this isn't anti EI who is generally a good egg.

What does "international" bring to the table for that part of Sheffield? What they are concerned about is the same as everyone in Sheffield: the problem with the rough sleepers, agressive beggars/drug addicts, the fact that the city centre is dead and unattractive, how to get around town (cars being edged out makes it difficult for shopping for some people despite the little free bus), housing, rubbish collections, the vast amount of student accommodation going up.... So much going on there. Is he going to be concerned with all that?

ErrolTheDragon · 28/10/2022 08:37

I'm fairly sure you have to be a member to report threads, so I'm going to go with no.

MNHQ allows non-members to report via Twitter, possibly email too, not sure about that.

Ofcourseshecan · 28/10/2022 08:41

ColdstreamAnnie · 27/10/2022 20:45

No, of course not.

Then I can’t understand why you want people to pretend to believe a male person is female. You clearly see the danger to women and children. So why support it?

Genuine question, by the way.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 28/10/2022 08:44

‘Incredibly sorry’

🤣🤣

overreact much?

eddie’s fine, stand down

Yes. MNHQ essentially admitted it back in the day, and many of the monitors like to brag on Twitter about shutting down the women of FWR, and exhort their followers to do the same while pointing out you don’t have to be a member to report.

I’d link to or screenshot such a tweet, but the fragile little darling who I remember seeing tweet along those lines blocked me when I challenged them. It was well over a year ago now so I can’t remember their username (mind you, thanks to menopause brain fog I can barely remember my own name - do you think I can identify out of that? 🤔) IIRC I’d followed a link from here after someone posted about it. I don’t recall it being any of the “big name” TRAs but beyond that…🤷🏻‍♀️

Asdavaluesausage · 28/10/2022 08:55

It was cursedE. A nasty misogynistic prick encouraging his followers to report us all. Had an account on here. Got banned repeatedly.

Threadkillacilla · 28/10/2022 08:58

Jean Hatchet bellowing sense now on lbc.

Pathetic piece by Harriet Williamson -

www.independent.co.uk/voices/eddie-izzard-pronouns-rosie-duffield-labour-b2209204.html

I particularly liked 'Duffield previously called trans women male bodied biological men'. Eh no shit Sherlock 🙄

BordoisAgain · 28/10/2022 09:05

mrshoho

"Yes, for decades he was a man/male who liked to paint his finger nails, wear heels and put on a skirt. That was absolutely fine and no-one raised an eyebrow."

I suspect that no one raising an eyebrow is the issue. Hard to be all edgy and the centre of attention when no one gives a shit.

Asdavaluesausage · 28/10/2022 09:07

What really gets me is all these ‘intelligent’ and ‘progressive’ people who say they are all for womens rights and equality but always put feelings of a man over the feelings, safety, dignity and comfort of women. Still waiting for someone to explain how this whole shitshow is not a mens rights movement.

Birdsweepsin · 28/10/2022 09:11

Eddie is a man. As a very funny, transvestite comedian he had a huge amount of support worldwide. He did a lot for charity.

Then Stonewall took a chainsaw to the dictionary. They opened up an umbrella called trans so that now Eddie fits under it.

As a good and honest and decent bloke, he could have used his unique situation for the good of everyone.

But no, he chose to use this dismantling of reality to feather his own nest, but in an even more egregious way than most TRAs - by claiming male privilege AND the right to female spaces.

And in so doing he has lost the love and respect of millions. Especially me.

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 09:11

oh well, the more of this kind of thing is in the mainstream press, the more people will see it for what it is.

In general i think people have sympathy for and with trans-people, men and women, but i also think there is a huge misunderstanding of what they actually are, if you see what i mean. Most people i've ever talked to about it in RL who have been TWAW are unaware of the biological reality of "lady dick". (not that i talk about it a lot, it doesn't really impact my life much at all)

I don't have issues around toilets, changing rooms etc, but i know other people do. So i appreciate there are tensions. And i will support single-sex spaces and go against ridiculous gender sterreotypes to my dying day.

I also don't see the problem with waiting 2 years for a GRC. Sure, you want it asap. But it's just a reinforcement that you really really want it. So if you are a 40 year old transwoman and have felt like this all your life, 2 years essentially living as a woman with people supporting you to do that, isn't that much to ask, IMO. It really does weed out the chancers.

Back to EI - my biggest disappointment is the rewriting history. He always was just EI in a dress. And now it's being retrofitted to "have always been a woman". That is disappointing because it drags us back to gender stereotypes. i wonder if EI ever wears trousers, just jeans and a hoodie, in "girl mode".

teawamutu · 28/10/2022 09:18

ColdstreamAnnie · 27/10/2022 20:50

It's fine. I'll leave the thread. My OP was genuine and I didn't realise MN had already decided on the gender issue (I've just been told).
I feel sorry for him, he (or she) seems like a nice person.

So nice that Eddie proudly tells the story of how Eddie confronted several 13-year-old girls who questioned Eddie's presence in the Ladies.

Eddie is just another entitled misogynist that thinks real women are props in his fantasy.

Don't waste your sympathy, OP.
