“The verbal abuse directed at her is disgusting, it’s appalling. I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women.

“But it’s not some obscene, uber Right-wing fascist. It’s just a woman saying, ‘I’m a woman and I feel I’m a woman and I want to be able to say that I’m a woman.’ And I understand where she’s coming from. Even though I’m not a woman.”

Good. I hope that epitome of smugness Emma Watson pays attention, although I'm not holding my breath.

Notesfromtheunderground · 25/10/2022 08:09

Wonderful! Well said Ralph.

Beowulfa · 25/10/2022 08:09

I have a very restrained fantasy about Ralph Feinnes in which on meeting I say something fabulously intellectual and witty about Russian literature and he nods and smiles. I love him even more now.

Imnobody4 · 25/10/2022 10:43

That's a relief, he's one of my favourite actors, not many of them are passing the test.

Musomama1 · 25/10/2022 10:47

Well done Ralph Fiennes. Not only taking an utterly reasonable stance but showing loyalty to someone who's work gave them a fantastic role.

Graham Norton take note.

Cavviesarethebest · 25/10/2022 10:50

He must be being deluged with rape and death threats.

oh hang on.

i thought he articulated her stance very well

gertrudy · 25/10/2022 10:55

So well put by him. It seems more famous voices are starting to speak out in support of JKR.

MeridasMum · 25/10/2022 10:58

I was happy to read this, and Tom Felton last week, but why has it taken them so long?

I'm afraid my Ralph Fiennes fantasy is not nearly so cerebral.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 25/10/2022 11:10

Ah the baddies of Harry Potter have turned out to be the goodies in real life - this makes me very happy.

senua · 25/10/2022 11:15

I'm not totally on board with that quotation (JKR feels she is a woman?) bit I find it amusing that He Who Must Not Be Named can say The Unsayable (viz: stop the abuse).

ArabellaScott · 25/10/2022 11:18

Good.

flyingbuttress43 · 25/10/2022 11:18

It's good to see the adults are finally beginning to enter the room.

onedayiwillmissthis · 25/10/2022 11:21

Also not comfortable with the JKR... feels like a woman bit. How do women 'feel' like a woman? Women ARE women. None of this bloody feelz like crap.

JellySaurus · 25/10/2022 11:23

Another Slytherin supporting a woman's right to speak, regulates of whether he agrees with her.

I'm not sure either of these 'Slytherins' agree with JKR. They may well think TWAW, but they clearly state that she has the right to speak up for her beliefs without being 'punished'.

JellySaurus · 25/10/2022 11:24

Another Slytherin supporting a woman's right to speak, regardless** of whether he agrees with her.

Bloody autocarrot.

Igmum · 25/10/2022 11:37

Well done Ralph. Ten points to Slytherin for loyalty.

Love your fantasy Beowulf Grin

HeadAboveHeadBelow · 25/10/2022 11:41

All well known people that speak in favour of JK is a good thing!
Agreed that it wasnt articulated as well as it could have been; the point is more that JK (and many millions like her) want to be able to say WHY they are a woman.
But still, GO RALPH :)

Awesomeo · 25/10/2022 11:48

I'm overjoyed to read this. I love Ralph.

The start is “I’m a woman” though.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 25/10/2022 11:57

Good. More evidence of the tide turning.

JamSandle · 25/10/2022 11:59

Thank Christ there are still some people who think rationally.

Unlikely. She's too busy supporting mermaids.

I don't care about that. Of course I'd like him and everyone else to come out and say "Don't be daft. Of course men cannot be women." But the important point here is that he stands up for JKR's right to speak, and to speak without being hounded for doing so.
