Cross party biology policy unit set up to stop gender identity ideology compromising women's and children's rights. I can't believe it. I hope this is going ahead, we need it so badly.

I really hope it happens. Thanks for posting.

Cheekymaw · 23/10/2022 02:07

Oh I so hope this happens . All power to those women.

SallyLockheart · 23/10/2022 05:44

Looks like good news. And interestingly talks about the rights of children, women and LGB people - very much supporting the different needs of LGB from T+

I would like to see this "biology unit" extend its remit into the teaching of biology in schools. Whether it's via the science curriculum or the PHSE, the message should be the same - two sexes, biology of reproduction, humans/mammals can't change sex.

Great news. The fact it is cross party will be significant as well.

Also, what Fanny Cann said.

beastlyslumber · 23/10/2022 07:36

This looks positive. Cautiously optimistic!

waterwitch · 23/10/2022 07:52

Where is the article from? Sorry, don’t like clicking on something if I can’t see where it’s directing me too
Sounds fantastic though

ResisterRex · 23/10/2022 07:54

This looks good. The idea is badly needed but also, I'd like a return to the days where we had some cross-party work. I'm old enough to remember when MPs could rebel and not have the whip taken away because both the main parties were a broad church. So this could have ripple effects that will benefit us in other ways too.

Circumferences · 23/10/2022 07:55

Excellent

AnneLovesGilbert · 23/10/2022 07:57

Wow. Promising!

Girlsontour · 23/10/2022 08:03

Is there a link to the news?? I can’t find information anywhere....

Girlsontour · 23/10/2022 08:03

Opps missed your link and the bottom of post!!!

waterwitch · 23/10/2022 08:05

Where is it reported please? I can’t find it using Google

ArabellaScott · 23/10/2022 08:06

Fantastic. Article is in Telegraph. Couldn't find any more on it.

I also think CPPGs are on the whole a great idea - make politicians work together and come to constructive ideas from.a diversity of backgrounds.

Dissent and having to rub up against people with different views is very healthy.

Mezmer · 23/10/2022 08:12

This is brilliant. Women from different political parties working together how inspiring.

Though I am more hopeful now after the recent events that have shone day light on the reality of the transright movement and if true I will certainly be as delighted as everyone else here. I also know the trans movement is embedded in many very powerful wealthy decision making institutions both here in the UK and in the rest of the world.

I can't help, but have a fastback to the enquiry scene outcome in the movie Suffragette. Though I would be more than happy to be proved wrong in this case.

grannyjacob · 23/10/2022 08:58

That would be wonderful if it does happen.

Floisme · 23/10/2022 09:49

Thanks for the links. This looks really promising - I don't trust any single party with this issue any more so working together feels like the only way forward.

waterwitch · 23/10/2022 11:07

Thank you for this links, this looks great. I agree that cross-party work is bound to be more successful and long lasting in most areas. What were the comments like?

WallaceinAnderland · 23/10/2022 14:13

Comments are 90% in favour and agree that proper scrutiny is well overdue.

Great news
Another article about it

SNP MP Joanna Cherry KC has teamed up with other politicians to launch a biology policy unit to stop gender identity ideology "compromising" women's and children's rights as she goes against Sturgeon and SNP party policy.

Cherry will work alongside Labour MP Rosie Duffield and Conservative peer Baroness Jenkins to help ensure policies across the public sector that are based on gender identity theory are documented and scrutinised.

The former SNP justice spokeswoman at Westminster has criticised planned legislation in Scotland that will make it easier to obtain a gender recognition certificate by allowing a process of self-declaration and scrapping the need for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

Excellent news. In the light of all the devastating safeguarding exposures about women and children's safety, this can't come soon enough.
