What the fuck will happen to these babies?

This is what happens when humans are allowed to be bought and sold.

He was interviewed on Newstalk's Lunchtime show yesterday. He came across very naive. Maybe he's not mentioning much about his partner as I've seen he's married - same sex marriage and from the travelling community where there's still a lot of stigma.

TheClogLady · 20/10/2022 15:20

I found them on Facebook:

www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077559919285

(don’t worry MN, the relevant post is set to public and the owner has clearly written ‘please share’)

Looks like the couple are genuine but it’s still possible whatever has happened to them in Kenya is a scam.

The photo of them with newborns fits the timeline and they are truly tiny.

They’ve been astonishingly naive either way. Looks like surrogacy is absolutely awful for women in Kenya and there is no evidence they ever met mum.

Buying babies is human trafficking, and if you are dealing with human traffickers, I guess this kind of situation can arise?

NicLondon1 · 20/10/2022 15:32

I think this is really sad. A lot of gay couples use surrogates abroad, it was naive of them but they should really have been warned about the potential hospital costs with multiples.... The Agency are clearly scammers. I've donated.

thenightsky · 20/10/2022 15:32

God, that poor woman who was forced to abort at 8 months because the 'parents' had changed their minds about wanting a baby. Shock

NicLondon1 · 20/10/2022 15:33

I am not sure this is buying babies or human trafficking, if they've used their own sperm and sometimes the egg donor is different to the surrogate who just carries the child..?

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 20/10/2022 15:37

Money is handed to a poor woman and a baby is given in exchange. How the fuck is that not buying a baby? How is paying money for a human being anything other than human trafficking?

No-one has a right to a baby. No-one should have a right to buy a baby.

Of course it's human trafficking. And the mother hasn't "just carried the baby". Growing triplets for 9 months isn't like sticking a pebble in your pocket for a bit and then handing it over. The mother had grown every single cell of those babies from her bodily resources, at risk to her own physical and mental health. Whether or not it's her egg is not relevant to that. Although I think carrying a pregnancy when born the egg and sperm are donated is higher risk.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 20/10/2022 15:54

Those are some large, very healthy-looking 'premature' babies in that second picture.

yes I thought this too! I assumed I’d got the timeline wrong instead of wondering if it was a scam.

but now you say it, it’s clearly a scam.

It also answers the question about him being in a gay relationship and highlights to why he didn’t mention his partner. Kenya are not very same sex friendly

TheClogLady · 20/10/2022 16:03

The work this Kenyan journalist has done is outstanding.

This is the second part, mostly about the legal issues post birth.

Absolutely disgusting and they still think they're the only victims in this. No living being should be bought and sold.

Northernsoullover · 20/10/2022 16:15

Those babies are very large for 32 weeks. Also they don't permit gay or single people to adopt.

CrossStichQueen · 20/10/2022 16:17

I only feel for the children. The 2 men in this I could not care about and I hope they go bankrupt since they rented a woman body and bought babies.

sashagabadon · 20/10/2022 16:18

What a depressing tale.

Who don't? Kenya?

NicLondon1 · 20/10/2022 16:22

@SirSamVimesCityWatch @RoseslnTheHospital How do you suggest gay couples have babies...? Are you saying they should adopt only?

I have friends currently going through surrogacy, and the surrogates are not victims, they love doing it and love being pregnant. There is a whole community of surrogates who do make a living from this and enjoy it.

(Not saying that was the case in this case, in which it is entirely possible a poor Kenyan woman was exploited, but I'm not against it when it works and all parties are happy)

CrossStichQueen · 20/10/2022 16:26

Gay couples cannot have babies as they are both male or both female although females can artificially inseminate but males will always need to rent a woman.
Nobody is entitled to be a parent and renting womens bodies and buying babies is morally and ethically wrong.
Yes I believe those that cannot have children should adopt not purchase babies.

ChateauMargaux · 20/10/2022 16:26

Geez @NicLondon1 ... read the room... these are feckless idiots who still think they have a right to buy babies from a woman who has been exploited. Give your money away if you want to but please do not split hairs over whether this is human trafficking or buying babies and your comment about the surrogate who "just carried the babies" really misses the point that people on here are trying to make.

Gay couples (and let's be clear it is usually gay men) who go abroad to buy babies should not just be informed about the risk of exposure to extra costs... they should be fully informed about the risks they are asking another human to go through so that they can have something that no human has an ultimate right to have. It is exploitation of women and their bodies and in this case there is no evidence that the decision to 'carry' these three babies was even remotely without coercion or informed consent.

Everyone is not entitled to everything all the time. How do you suggest I have another baby huh? I'm old and it's not happening. I have an inherent right to a baby though right? How do you suggest I do it?

Ridiculous.

Foolsandtheirmoney · 20/10/2022 16:30

This is horrific. I can't believe people are paying into that gofundme to help him complete his purchase. Paying someone to carry triplets is shocking, sickening that it was allowed. I would also question how much of that money the poor surrogate is going to see if the agency is as unethical as he claims.

If he is a traveller then chances are he has little to no education but someone should have sat him down and explained what a triplet birth means for mom and babies. Surely the chances of a full term birth and all three babies emerging happy and healthy was extremely slim. There was always going to be a somewhat prolonged hospital stay involved.

I don't know what should happen with those poor babies but this man has proved that he isn't fit to be a parent. I really hope if he does get those children back to ireland that Tusla keep a very close eye on him.

Lapland123 · 20/10/2022 16:30

NicLondon

did you really say ‘just carries the baby’

ffs

maskersanonymous · 20/10/2022 16:30

NicLondon1 how can all parties be happy when the babies get no say in the matter? There are reasons babies are only taken from their mothers at birth for very serious reasons.

VaddaABeetch · 20/10/2022 16:31

Had anyone queried as to why there are triplets?

is this down to 3 embryos being place? Isn’t this considered too risky a practice & increases risk hugely?

that poor woman, those poor babies.

some people should get themselves a puppy & maybe that’s unfair on the puppy.

As to happy surrogates, is that a bit like a happy ‘hooker’?

NicLondon1 · 20/10/2022 16:31

I have no idea if coercion or informed consent took place, there is no evidence that it did either. And I totally agree they should have been fully informed, I said that in my original post, the agency has failed them.

However, are those of you against surrogacy for gay couples also against surrogacy for infertile straight couples? Are you against IVF?
I mean, is it natural straight pregnancy or nothing, or where is the boundary?

I am reading the room and that's why I'm curious. Thank you.
