Mens loos remain untouched, womens loos made inclusive to everyone

First time I’ve seen this in real life! Visited an Arts fair in Battersea Park, held within a building called Evolution London, used to have mens and womens loos, now the womens have been made mixed sex whilst the mens remain just for men. I really don’t understand how anyone can think is a good idea, women need single sex provision for safety….where are women of certain Faiths meant to go?

They need to be taken to court under the Equalities Act — provision of facilities.

KittenKong · 09/10/2022 19:39

Yuk. We used to go to school plays on there.

KittenKong · 09/10/2022 19:40

I’d barge into the gents for the hell of it. See how they like it.

ConfusedNoMore · 09/10/2022 19:50

If you were going to make one toilet unisex, why would you pick the most vulnerable group? Logically it makes no sense why we're not seeing unisex and female toilets (except we know why).

KittenKong · 09/10/2022 19:52

Because mens have urinals. Almost as if sex has a bearing of having a wee.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/10/2022 19:54

It's fucking ridiculous. Humans are either male or female. Therfore splitting loos by sex is fine as both sexes are covered.

ThatCheeseIsMine · 09/10/2022 20:21

I know, this is so infuriating. I can’t think of a clearer sign that so many organisations and institutions don’t care about women at all, while trumpeting on about “diversity” they’re happy for women girls to be put in danger or have nowhere to go. This is exactly why redefining “woman” is so harmful- because if you complain you’re just told trans women are women, there’s no such thing as an actual female sex class, so there doesn’t need to be any provision for it.

I’m so angry about it all at the moment. 😡

Live4weekend · 09/10/2022 20:39

I think woman are going to have to start invading men's spaces (even though I am not sure I can bring myself to do it).

But I think its the only way to get the message across. Make the men uncomfortable and let EA will get tightened up.

LeavesOnTrees · 09/10/2022 20:40

I agree, start using the men's toilets.

Fenlandia · 09/10/2022 20:42

I keep thinking it must be direct sex discrimination to provide twice as much toilet provision for men than women (even before you get into which sex does the bulk of toilet trips with young children)

Go in en masse. Point and giggle.

I’m so fucking angry with this shit, I’m actually going to start doing this.

KittenKong · 09/10/2022 21:05

Hold your nose and jump in. Anyone says anything, you know what what to say.

Thighdentitycrisis · 09/10/2022 21:10

I started going in mens loos since I started going to gigs/clubs/theatre/cinema etc as a youngster in the 80’s. In protest about the lack of space afforded to women and we were expected to queue for the loo, then get ignored at the bar

KittenKong · 09/10/2022 21:14

I remember doing that too. Must’ve been an 80s thing!

KittenKong · 09/10/2022 21:15

And I used to go to gay clubs - never met a male in the loos (even male transvestites - as they were back then) used the mens bogs.

Mollyollydolly · 09/10/2022 21:17

Did anyone see this thread on twitter. Stonegate pubs another place to avoid.

This seems to me to be borderline illegal too - perhaps someone should sue?

Have you complained? To the venue and the organisers, quoting Equalities Act 2010. No use complaining on here if you haven't complained elsewhere.

SwordToFlamethrower · 09/10/2022 22:43

Pisses me off that womens loos are often the disabled loo as well. That makes it a mixed sex toilet if it is women and anyone disabled.

People forget this.

LimboLass · 09/10/2022 22:54

Seriously why are so many people suggesting this? It does not do anything to help the situation and just puts yourself in danger. Do you really think a man is going to react well if we all start going into the gents? They do their business in the open and not in cublicles like us.

99% of men do not want this mixed toilets crap either.

As a group we can only make this end by spreading the word about which venues are doing this and making sure we stop going there and giving them any money.

QuitMitheringMe · 09/10/2022 23:03

Liberty’s in London. Mixed sex toilets - cubicles, and shared basins and mirrors. Confined space. Embarrassing and confusing for both sexes I found. Yes, Liberty’s.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 09/10/2022 23:06

I use the mens all the time. Since I was a teenager and had to vomit and couldn’t wait in the queue for the womens. It was entirely empty. Since then I’ve always wondered why I was wasting my time in the queue for the ladies.

use them. You probably won’t ever see a man in them, I never have.

DdraigGoch · 09/10/2022 23:10

A person (A) discriminates against another (B) if, because of a protected characteristic, A treats B less favourably than A treats or would treat others.

Should be an open-and-shut legal case if a venue is providing single-sex toilets for men but not for women.

Obviously if they make both sets mixed sets then you've got a bit more work to do to prove that "gender neutral with urinals" is discriminatory but it should still be doable.
